NC because if replies are snidey and dent my ego I'd like to go back to my usual username and pretend this thread never happened Grin

I put on a little weight over lockdown, as WFH in my small flat I was walking less than 1000 steps everyday. So I bought an exercise mini trampoline and tried to get into the habit of using it while watching Netflix.

The thing is, I always have found any exercise really tedious and boring and like I should be doing something else more productive with that time, and thought how great it would be if I could get some work done on my laptop at the same time as exercising.

I looked into standing desks, and they are SO expensive. Like £200. But then I remembered I have an old music keyboard still stored at my mum's. I pinched the stand, and placed the lid of a plastic storage box over it, and I've made a standing desk!

So now I get paid to work out. My feet don't actually leave the mat of the trampoline, so I'm not bouncing all over the place, but according to FitBit, my heart rate averages around 175, burning over 500 calories an hour, and the time passes quickly as I'm concentrating on work, not the monotony of exercise.

As you can probably tell, my work doesn't involve Zoom calls or anything Grin

I'm just rather pleased with myself solving my lifelong hatred of exercise and love of multitasking all in one go I guess, and I haven't really got anyone to tell Blush

Just to update as I finally bought some scales!

I went to stay with DM for 6mths over lockdown and weighed in at 11st 2, for my height I was at the absolute limit before going into overweight.

I sorted my diet only in so far as cutting out all snacks due to my erratic sleeping pattern, and finding 30-60 mins for the trampoline while watching netflix. Progress was slow but in the right direction.

On 8th November (I just checked our WhatsApp messages) I set up the keyboard stand/tray "desk". And that's when the inches fell off.

I just weighed myself and I'm 8st 13. Before the desk I was hovering 3ish lbs +/- 10st.

So although the saying is you can't outrun a bad diet, I feel pretty comfortable that I can continue working out yet pretty much eat what I want, as I certainly don't want to lose any more.

People saying they don't "get" how im bouncing, sit on your bed with your legs under you, on a laptop, and bounce on the bed. You can still type but its the momentum you push against Smile

@yesimbragging well done! You've done brilliantly with your work out / weight loss and it didn't take you long either... I think your homemade desk was fabulous btw!

Just to update this months later... I've moved in with my DM for a few weeks as my flat is unbearable to WFH in the recent heat. She also has a rebounder but my job role has changed slightly, needing at least one additional screen, sometimes two, and my homemade standing desk can only fit one so I was a bit stuck with my 'genius hack'.

I can't believe I didn't think of it earlier, but a corner of the kitchen worktop is working fabulously for rebounding while working. I can type perfectly as my elbows rest on the worktop, and I'm still getting paid to work out Grin

As an aside, I recently saw that Argos are now selling my rebounder for £60, up from the £40 I paid Shock bastards.

*pic attached, trampoline on the floor. I'm 5ft6ish and it's the perfect height for me to lean resting my elbows, which has the added bonus of an increased HR than standing upright (no idea how the physics works on that, but I'll take it).

Excellent news OP! That is a really fantastic achievement. Just for balance, the trampoline I bought instantly, inspired by this thread, has been used once and is now gathering dust in the utility. Hey ho.

(And I'm still fat 😂)

@yesimbragging I have a standing desk and a trampette, I’m giving this a go! 6” off your *rse is amazing!

GurningGolfer · 14/08/2022 11:53

@yesimbragging this is fabulous but please get a wrist rest! Please! Your wrists are 1 step away from serious issues leaning on a hard worktop to type. You were told this in Jan and its now August. Please think of the wrists as well as your amazingly pert and slim body 😄

You're absolutely right, and I have very occasionally had the odd RSI type pain in one wrist in particular. I'm pretty sure DM has a really good gel rest knocking about here somewhere, if not I'll be ordering one from Amazon today, thanks for the reminder Smile
