NC because if replies are snidey and dent my ego I'd like to go back to my usual username and pretend this thread never happened Grin

I put on a little weight over lockdown, as WFH in my small flat I was walking less than 1000 steps everyday. So I bought an exercise mini trampoline and tried to get into the habit of using it while watching Netflix.

The thing is, I always have found any exercise really tedious and boring and like I should be doing something else more productive with that time, and thought how great it would be if I could get some work done on my laptop at the same time as exercising.

I looked into standing desks, and they are SO expensive. Like £200. But then I remembered I have an old music keyboard still stored at my mum's. I pinched the stand, and placed the lid of a plastic storage box over it, and I've made a standing desk!

So now I get paid to work out. My feet don't actually leave the mat of the trampoline, so I'm not bouncing all over the place, but according to FitBit, my heart rate averages around 175, burning over 500 calories an hour, and the time passes quickly as I'm concentrating on work, not the monotony of exercise.

As you can probably tell, my work doesn't involve Zoom calls or anything Grin

I'm just rather pleased with myself solving my lifelong hatred of exercise and love of multitasking all in one go I guess, and I haven't really got anyone to tell Blush

To brag about my amazing life hack? lighthearted!

Well that’s an amazing idea. If I only I didn’t have a pelvic floor like a wet tissue, I would be joining in!

TheLadyGrayson · 10/01/2022 13:49

Blimey, that’s a lot of peak minutes!

ladygindiva · 10/01/2022 13:51

thats brilliant! I make up my step count by watching episodes of sex and the city on my tablet whilst walking laps of the bedroom !

WilliamofBaskerville · 10/01/2022 13:54

@ineedsun I bought this desk adaptor: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B089M78QL1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?th=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

and this treadmill: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B086X37YHX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

Not cheap, but much cheaper than buying a treadmill desk for £££.

Re: Fitbit being wrong. I meant in relation to correctly recording the heart rate. As others have said, either the heart rate is incorrect or the op has something wrong with her and should see a doctor.

My Fitbit is wildly inaccurate when running and tries to say I run an entire 5k at 180bpm plus. It's not correct

betwixtlives · 10/01/2022 14:21

A heart rate that high with gentle exercise is concerning. Have you checked your pulse manually? If so, talk to your GP

I'm really not sure anyone can say it's that 'gentle' without having done it themselves and felt which muscles engage tbf. I'm slim now, healthy, normal blood pressure taken at routine appt 3 weeks ago. Other exercise doesn't make my HR go up like that, resting HR low-mid 60s. Really odd for posters to try and diagnose me with some imaginary illness when they've never even tried the exercise themselves!

This thread has just cost me £40. Hmm

Grin
Thelnebriati · 10/01/2022 14:44

I'm considering the standing desk adaptor just linked to Grin

Thelnebriati · 10/01/2022 14:45

Oops, fat fingers! that should say WilliamofBaskerville just linked to.

SummerHouse · 10/01/2022 14:57

People are naturally suspicious jealous of something that seems too good to be true. But you have your results OP. Perhaps your heart rate is not as high as fit bit says but your ass don't lie! Could partly be that you are standing but you have made standing less boring and created an entertaining thread. Bounce on my lovely. Don't let them piss on your bounce.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 10/01/2022 14:58

Top trampoline tip for pelvic floors - put a mooncup in. Not to catch wee, it just seems to make your pelvic floor work. It works for me at trampoline gymnastics (ie, deep bounces, somersaults rather than rebounding).

DueyCheatemAndHow · 10/01/2022 14:59

I don't see how you are exercising gently enough to still work but vigorously enough to burn 500 cals an hour. When I go to the gym I burn about 300 per half hour on the cross trainer and its as much as i can do to concentrate on listening to music.

motherofawhirlwind · 10/01/2022 15:16

I think need a video... I can't imagine it at all!

Lipsandlashes · 10/01/2022 15:18

That's bloody brilliant!

Doomscrolling · 10/01/2022 15:21
@MmeD you don't need to be fit, though I would work up to standing on it for long periods slowly. I have this one which at under a tenner isn't much of a risk, and we've all been using it for 2 years now, so its pretty robust
Thanks! Just bought one as I need to work on my balance for ankles and knees - I'd not come across these before. At £13 including postage it's not much of a risk and it might help.

justasking111 · 10/01/2022 15:21

@yesimbragging you've lost inches off your bum. Anywhere else? Have you weighed yourself or is it a toner rather than a weight loss exercise method

yesimbragging · 10/01/2022 15:37

@justasking111 yes, I've gone from 38 inch bust to 34, waist 30 to 25.5, and hips 42 to 35.5. I don't have scales but was 11st2 at those measurements when I weighed myself at my mums, and 3 weeks ago at a routine appt was 9st4. I've been around this weight most of my adult life but feel much stronger and more toned now. Its not all down to working out while working iykwim, I first got the trampoline in I think June, so the total weight loss is since then. The "desk" just means I have no excuse to procrastinate on exercising Grin

Well done you, using the trampoline means you're aware of your body daily which is good. Hope you've bought some nice new clothes.

Did you adjust your foods? Choosing to eat healthier?

yesimbragging · 10/01/2022 15:57

I do 16:8, mainly because working nights means I snacked ALL the time Grin other than that no, I always tried to eat pretty healthily for actual meals, but the constant snacks and not moving at all in lockdown finished me off I think!

crazyjinglist · 10/01/2022 16:12

Wow OP - sounds brilliant! It wouldn't work for me because I don't work at a desk. On the upside that means I theoretically don't need to spend much time sitting down.... Theoretically.... Well, put it this way, nothing I do during my average day (including vigorous dog walk and a bit of either yoga or weights) ever takes 6 inches off my arse. Mind you... I suppose if I weren't doing it, ny arse might be 6 inches bigger. Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 10/01/2022 16:51

I don't care if this is exaggerated, I totally want one now!

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 12/01/2022 12:42

This has motivated me to get a mini cycle machine for under my desk!

superstar63 · 12/01/2022 19:47

It has motivated me to get a wobble board - whoops! Fingers crossed I dont fall off.

SoupDragon · 12/01/2022 20:03

I bought a Stepper for when I'm watching TV. It's really hard 😂
