To ask how many hours you spend on phone daily?

I am seriously addicted to my phone, I genuinely can't put it down when I'm at rest. I can put it down if I'm driving or volunteering or cleaning but as soon as I sit down I am always on it. I try and watch a program or read a book but have to constantly pick it up. I can spend full days on it when my daughter is at her dads. My screen time app says my daily average is 8 hours and 28 minutes per day Blush

Can I ask what yours is? And does anyone have any tips on how to get over this awful addiction?

Same! I've tried to set limits on social media but just over ride them. I'd probably need to remove all my apps for a bit

Grumpyosaurus · 08/01/2022 19:02

Too much! Though it depends on the day and what I'm doing.

I feel a lot less guilty if I'm sitting there knitting and listening to an improving or informative podcast rather than mindlessly scrolling FB.

Darbs76 · 08/01/2022 19:07

Yes too much. When I’m working I don’t tend to look at it much, now and then, but otherwise I’m always on it. I definitely spend too much time on it

MaryAndHerNet · 08/01/2022 19:10

Same.
I think most people are.these days really.
Some sneery perfectionista will be along in a moment to tell you that they only use their phone for 33.5 minutes a month, but they'll be talking bollocks.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 08/01/2022 19:12

I use mine a lot for reading or listening to audible. But I’m trying to stop myself from mindless scrolling ( trying to find something to look at ). Or being on my phone while doing something else like watching tv. Slow steps.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/01/2022 19:12

Too, too many

It’s gone crazy in the last 18 months

BooksAndGin · 08/01/2022 19:16

I deleted all my social media. I rarely spend time on my phone unless it's in the evenings when I'm watching something on it or on here Grin

Runmybathforme · 08/01/2022 19:23

I think that's really sad, so much of your life just being wasted.

bobsholi · 08/01/2022 19:25

I'm on my phone far too much and I don't even know why most of the time. I tend to scroll through only 4 or 5 sites but I flit between them all day. Sometimes I find myself bored of it but I still can't put my phone down!

SoftSquishy8 · 08/01/2022 19:30

My daily average is 4 hours and I definitely need to use it less. I don't know how though!

arethereanyleftatall · 08/01/2022 19:32

Daily average about 5-6 hours for me.

To the poster above - how is it wasted if you enjoy doing it?

AutumnAlmanack · 08/01/2022 19:34

I only use mine for phone calls and texts and whatsapps. Cannot bear being glued to some plastic device just because everybody else does it.

etulosba · 08/01/2022 19:36

Apparently, I average about five minutes a day.

A bit more on my iPad though.

BornOnTwelfthNight · 08/01/2022 19:38

I only use my phone fo phone calls (when I’m out of the house) and texting. Now and again I’ll use google maps or safari for price comparisons whilst shopping etc. But other than that I don’t use it.

Tbh I don’t know where my phone is half the time if I’m in the house. I use my iPad for internet.

Chikapu · 08/01/2022 19:46

Maybe an hour in total, I only use it for WhatsApp messages and playing Pokemon Go.

12hrs
It is what it is! I use it for music, podcasts, watching YouTube, google maps/calculator for work etc etc etc so I am forever picking it up to check stuff

MummyInTheNecropolis · 08/01/2022 20:03

Mine is just over 5 hours a day but much higher during school holidays when I’m not at work. I listen to a lot of podcasts and usually play games while I listen, and sometimes watch videos on YouTube, as well as reading through mumsnet and Facebook. I would like to cut down.

linerforlife · 08/01/2022 21:03

I am averaging 5 hours a day which is 2 hrs down from what it was in nov and Dec as I'm making a conscious effort. During the first lockdown when I had a very small baby it was upwards of 9 hours as it kept me company all day and on the night feeds! I watch TV on it, use social media, the kindle app, whatsapp etc

SheWoreYellow · 08/01/2022 21:05

Mine is too much. 6 hours ish. I used to watch crap tv before my phone though.

Scarby9 · 08/01/2022 21:09

Far, far too much.
I make a resolution each evening amd break it the moment I wake the next morning.

niceupthedanceagain · 08/01/2022 21:17

About 8 hours but i run my business from my phone and also use it to watch tv/listen to podcasts etc

fizzypop100 · 08/01/2022 21:41

All the time. But it does everything. Maps, bus times, shopping, news, booking appointments.........

chickywoo · 08/01/2022 21:49

Ok so for all the people who say hardly any, just for phonecalls, what’s app etc, what other devices do you use and how long do you spend on them?
So I will fit into the 6 hrs ish screentime category ( less on workdays) but I don’t use any other devices I even watch my programmes do any household admin etc all within that time on my phone ( as well as social media & mums net & what app😉)
So the people hardly on phones I’m guessing must spend 3 hrs watching telly, 2 hours on laptop etc etc ..

It’s a very good point. I’m quite strict with the DC and their phones so they pick me up when I’m on mine. Have to point out that I’m doing household shit (eg paying for school dinners, organising socials for them) so maybe BACK OFF if you want your life to continue to be organised Grin When you’re the one filling in forms for the dentist on your phone rather than tiktoking, the rules will be different for you too.
