To roll my clementine before peeling it

DC are teasing me because I always roll my clean times before I peel them. Apparently my students have noticed it and all giggle about it too? When a couple of them asked DD about it, she has told them it pops the juice particles?!!?
My parents and grandparents did it. I just assumed that everyone did, but DH says he doesn't.

GrinAIBU to think that rolling your clementines before peeling them, makes them easier to peel?

Ive always done this for Oranges, clementines and similar -- learned it from my parents.

It separates the peel from the fruit and makes peeling much easier. I think it must be reasonably common, but I've sometimes found out to my surprise that others don't do it

EileenGC · 07/01/2022 19:11

I’m from an area in Spain where the majority of oranges / clementines come from, we eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner about 6 months out of 12 Grin

That is definitely NOT how you eat clementines. YABU. HTH. Grin

CeleriacOfTheNight · 07/01/2022 19:11

Me too, makes the peel baggy Grin

queenMab99 · 07/01/2022 19:15

I always do this, in fact I thought I had invented it!

jetadore · 07/01/2022 19:16

No. You roll limes to break up the cells to get the juice out easier. Pointless to roll oranges as the peel is well stuck and the force required to separate it would damage the flesh. Is suppose with clementines it might make peeling a bit easier, but their usp is being easy to peel anyway so not sure what different is makes, and there’s still the risk of damaging the flesh.

Random789 · 07/01/2022 19:18

It does work, honest. Oranges are MUCH easier to peel after a good rolling, and I've nver damaged the fruit

nocoolnamesleft · 07/01/2022 19:20

Makes them easier to peel.

SavoyCabbage · 07/01/2022 19:22

I see citrus fruit rollers as organised people rather than figures of fun. The sort who own sellotape dispensers.

What's better? Satsumas or clementines? I was at Morrisons yesterday and ended up with neither as I didn't know. Sad

Chely · 07/01/2022 19:27

Dh does it but he also peels them so the peel looks like a pencil dick with big balls too 🤣🤣

Mrstwiddle · 07/01/2022 19:31

Satsumas are 100 times better than clementines (and they don’t need rolling)

lesenfantsdelesperance · 07/01/2022 19:32

Nope. You're not in the majority with this one I don't think. Doesn't do anything.

Munchyseeds · 07/01/2022 19:32

Satsuma's are way nicer
Only roll lemons and limes, not anything orange

Wilkolampshade · 07/01/2022 19:40

No, YABU. I roll lemons or limes as it breaks the cell membranes and makes it easier to juice them. I've not found it loosens the skin though.
Clementines are easy peel though aren't they?

vintage21 · 07/01/2022 19:41

its the law!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 07/01/2022 19:42

I roll, it makes it easier to peel

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 07/01/2022 19:42

Sounds like a sex euphemism from the 1920s.

Snow1n · 07/01/2022 19:43

I do this too!

Allthesefolks · 07/01/2022 19:45

I roll it in my hands to make it easier to peel, didn’t realised that was weird…

A good satsuma is much better but often they're not that good anymore. Bit like Granny smiths.

Grin the sort who make sure the whole family is listening while the read out the rules of the board game and admonish anyone who makes a mistake during the game?
RJnomore1 · 07/01/2022 19:50

Don’t roll your lemons and limes, stick them in the microwave for one minute before you juice them.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/01/2022 19:53

Stop ragging on my lifestyle Shirley.

Proud satsuma roller and sellotape-dispenser owner here.

SavoyCabbage · 07/01/2022 20:11

I can't tell you how excited I am about the 100% satsuma consensus!

Don't even get me started on 'easy peelers' 🤯.

Random789 · 07/01/2022 20:23

I roll citrus fruit but I'm not an organised sellotape dispenser person. In fact I roll my sellotape, too, whilst very gently stroking it with one finger, to find the tiny tiny ridge that reveals the lost end of the tape.

Giggorata · 07/01/2022 20:45

I bought .some tangerines before Xmas! Shades of my youth, i don't remember satsumas or clementines being around when I was young.

Rolling works, but I will try the microwave wheeze, RJnomore1.
