AIBU to think I can put a Peloton upstairs?

As the title says, AIBU to think I can use a peloton upstairs in my house? I have normal floorboard type floor with carpet (not concrete floors) so worried about noise/damage. AIBU to think it would be okay??

We have one upstairs.

It's fine in terms of safety but it is REALLY loud.

storkstalk · 07/01/2022 16:52

Oh nooo that’s not what I wanted to hear! So if someone’s on it upstairs you can really hear it downstairs?

You could put a lot of soundproofing mats underneath it but it would be better downstairs if possible.

Firesidefox · 07/01/2022 16:54

Can you get a mat to put under it like a yoga mat but for exercise bikes that might deaden the noise a bit?

VitalsStable · 07/01/2022 17:02

We have one up stairs. Get a bit of marine ply and put that under the peloton mat, it'll make a huge difference.

Itsnotdeep · 07/01/2022 17:03

Mine's upstairs and is fine. No noise downstairs. It's just on floorboards.

storkstalk · 07/01/2022 17:12

I actually have a load of left over marine ply in the shed so can put a sheet to use!

Anyone got strong opinions on bike vs bike+? Significant price jump so I’m leaning to the bike

I've got mine upstairs. Not a lot of noise below. It's on wooden floors and a peloton mat. It was bloody heavy to get up there though!

PointyMcguire · 07/01/2022 17:39

We opted for the bike+ in the end, but honestly in hindsight the auto-follow can be somewhat temperamental so probably wasn’t worth the extra money.

escapingthecity · 07/01/2022 17:43

Ours is on a mat on a carpet in a bedroom on the first floor. It's fine.

junglejane66 · 07/01/2022 17:44

Its noisy for the first few weeks, then gets quieter and after 3 months you wont hear it at all

storkstalk · 07/01/2022 19:16

@PointyMcguire that’s useful thank you. The auto follow was the one thing that could have swung it for me

We have one upstairs, and it’s completely fine. ☺️ If you are buying one, look up a referral code (all Peloton owners have them), and it will save money on accessories.

Otter77 · 07/01/2022 19:43

You can buy a widget from topformdesign and fit it to the standard bike to make the screen swivel like the bike+ screen too.

Let me know if you need a referral code Wink

In all honesty I wouldn’t have one upstairs

Sound is also apparently superior on the Plus, but I have my regular one hooked up to external speakers through the headphone jack. Don’t listen to the nay-sayers: my Peloton has been a life-changing investment. (If you need a referral code for free accessories, mine is HRNWS3). Good luck with it.

Badgergirl123 · 07/01/2022 20:27

I have mine upstairs on a wooden floor with no issues, I did buy the peloton mat to sit it on though. Didn't see any point in getting the plus and no regrets there.

I second @shropshire11, it's been a real game changer for me and I now work out on it at least 4 times a week. I also use a lot of the core, stretching, yoga and walking classes, all fab.

FirewomanSam · 07/01/2022 21:08

Really surprised by the person saying it’s loud, unless they mean the speakers? The bike itself isn’t loud at all.

Mines on the Peloton mat, on carpet, and it’s fine but if you find it a bit unstable you could put a wooden board under it as someone upthread suggested.

I’ve had mine 2 years and still haven’t fallen out of love with it!

HollaHolla · 07/01/2022 21:14

I'm in a flat. The people upstairs from me got one in lockdown. It's awful. So noisy, and as they've paid a lot of money for one, they want to use it - a lot. I could cry some days, if I've been working odd hours. :(

Plural · 07/01/2022 22:26

Loud? It basically makes no noise!
It'll be totally fine upstairs. Mine is on the first floor with a mat underneath it but the mat isn't really needed

TheHatInTheCat · 07/01/2022 22:34

@storkstark I trialled the bike then upgraded to the bike plus and I’m so glad I did.
The auto follow has never played up for me and it’s so nice to just lose yourself in the class and not have to keep adjusting the resistance.

Maybe get the bike plus on a 30 day trial and if you don’t like it you can always swap to the bike, it’s easy to do.
Here’s a referral code if you haven’t already got one, it gets you £100 off ( and I do as well)

oh and as for the noise mines downstairs so not sure
But it’s honestly no problem for you to return for a full refund after 30 days so I’d give it a go.
