Dear Ebay and Facebook sellers, stop telling me how stunning and gorgeous your clothes are

Just a first world annoyance, but I'm so sick of people selling their second hand stuff and always using marketing words like gorgeous, stunning etc. I'm sick of reading "Stunning dress, size 12". It feels so false and the words lose all meaning when you use them all the time. Just take some damn photos and I'll be the judge of whether it's nice or not.

I cringe at this too.

AnotherMansCause · 05/01/2022 13:02

Absolutely agree. I want a factual description. For example 75% cotton 25% polyester, wash at 40c, originally from X shop, X cm from shoulder to hem. Description of any defects (& photo of each).

Telling me it’s “stunning” adds nothing to what they saying, & makes me think they’re desperate to sell.

TopTabby · 05/01/2022 13:05

If it was that 'stunning' they'd want to keep it wouldn't they?
YANBU, I've often clicked on an item description to fund that's literally all it says!

tectonicplates · 05/01/2022 16:03

Yeah it's really not helpful.

Nope. I have lots of brand new clothes that are lovely but I need them gone due to moving.

HotCocoaAndCleo · 05/01/2022 18:11

YES! This bugs the hell out of me too. I can clearly see it, and will decide if I want it or not. You telling me it's stunning makes 0 difference. Most of the time it means it's heinous anyway 🙃

I sell lots of clothes because they're too big or because I just don't like the style on me e.g. I can't tolerate high necklines at all. Doesn't mean they wouldn't be lovely for someone else.
myusernamewastakenbyme · 05/01/2022 18:33

My bugbear is when they put 'first to see will buy'. . It really annoys me.

iklboo · 05/01/2022 18:35

There's a bloke on one FB selling page that writes his post like a QVC sales pitch;

'Just £20 will secure you this stunning item. Made of beautiful crimson & gold material with aspects of black, this is a must have item for any follower of the brand'.

Mate, it's last season's Man U shirt FFS!

Lacedwithgrace · 05/01/2022 18:36

My friends and I have a groupchat where we share shit listings. One regular marketplace poster titles everything as "bowl, stunning just stunning" with the description saying "beautiful vintage bowl just beautiful so stunning" just call it a bowl!

Thethingswedidanddidntdo · 05/01/2022 18:39

I know what you mean but my items ALWAYS sell better when i use this tactic so... I'm going to continue Grin sorry

Fallsballs · 05/01/2022 18:49

I don’t mind those adjectives but I hate ‘sexy’ which is used by some sellers to describe very unsexy things that never were or could be.
Have been looking at sensible, practical and dull sports swimwear and the amount described as sexy was alarming.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 05/01/2022 18:55

Going against the grain, but it doesn't bother me at all. I'll only take a closer look at clothes that interest me, and sometimes I'll think 'yes, that is indeed stunning' and sometimes I won't.

However, the adjectives should not take the place of factual information. What I really want to see are exact measurements so I can be sure the garment will fit. Also, fabric type and close-up photos to show texture, and whether the garment has stretch etc.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 05/01/2022 18:57

Haha, yes! I never click on anything listed as stunning.

At least they called it a bowl.

One listing on my FB marketplace, a while back, was excitedly offering a 'gorgeous vintage bowel'.

Elieza · 05/01/2022 19:09

Does my head in

Sometimes I wonder if they got stunning and minging mixed up. Or gorgeous and hideous.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that Grin

Pirrip1868 · 05/01/2022 19:29

Reminds me of when M&S started naming their food stuff like “Delicious Chocolate Mouse”.

I’ll tell you whether it’s delicious or not.

RobertaFirmino · 05/01/2022 19:34

That gets on my nerves too and I make a point of completely bypassing items with these descriptions. I want to see measurements, fabric content, closures, will it wash, that sort of thing.

Nothing is as bad as Vinted though, with their fuzzy photos of crumpled rags and the words 'dress size 8'.

WorraLiberty · 05/01/2022 19:37

It's as bad as when Ebay sellers used to put 'L@@ArblemarzipanTFruitcake

So cool, so edgy.

WorraLiberty · 05/01/2022 19:38

OMG where did the fruitcake thing come from??? Shock

I typed 'L@@K'

Oooh, it's a long time since I've been considered cool and edgy, Worra Grin
Elieza · 05/01/2022 19:40

I HATE that look thing. Grrr

Yes chocolate mouse sounds pretty gross, haha 😉
WorraLiberty · 05/01/2022 19:46

@ArblemarzipanTFruitcake, do you fetch much at auction? 🤣

🤣🤣🤣 I love this.

I always put something like really pretty top to hard sell it. Grin
