Son cut his hair

Last night at 10pm when I thought my son was asleep he was actually giving himself a trim! He cut huge chunks out of the front of his hair and it was awful. Really uneven and nearly down the scalp in places..... the night before he goes back to school!! I had clippers from lockdown but all I could do was a buzz cut this morning and he quite honestly looks terrible!

Please tell me I'm not alone and your kids have done something like this before?!

My DS cut my DDs hair when she was a toddler - she barely had any to start with!!

R0tational · 04/01/2022 09:58

Its fine. It will grow. Its a normal rite of passage for kids.

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/01/2022 09:59

Both mine have done it, when they were younger. So have many other children, so you are not alone lol

gamerchick · 04/01/2022 10:01

I don't think I've ever met a kid who hasnt. It'll grow back.

Georgeskitchen · 04/01/2022 10:01

Yes!! All mine thought they were budding Vidal Sassoons!! Don't worry it will grow back and you will laugh your head off about it. Just hide the scissors for now

Theballoonsinthesky · 04/01/2022 10:02

Poor boy. I hope it grows quick Grin

I think boys look cute with a buzz cut !

Rosebel · 04/01/2022 10:05

My daughter's cut each others hair when they were little. My mother was in a state as they were staying with her for a couple of days. She rushed them to the hairdresser so they had rather short hair for a while. It grew back.

UserError012345 · 04/01/2022 10:05

How old is he ?

MrsTimRiggins · 04/01/2022 10:07

I think every kid ever has done this. My sister once decided she didn’t want a fringe anymore so just grabbed it, plus some innocent bystanding hair from behind the fringe and lopped it off. It was like a weird mix of a mullet and friar tucks ‘do.
We have never let her forget it 😂

  1. I'm hoping he doesnt get too many comments today. Maybe he won't get any but he looks quite different!

Theballoonsinthesky · 04/01/2022 10:11

@Pleasegodgotosleep oh thats awful timing too! Thank god boys can have a buzz cut, it's way worse for a girl I think

Loads of kids do this. It'll grow back. But I can understand it would upset you at the time

OhChrismtasTree · 04/01/2022 10:13

I had that Barbie head doll thing that you cut the hair of, but pushed a button and it grew more. Really led me into a false sense of security, so when I gave myself a stylish chop I was mortified it didn't grow back the same way....

I looked absolutely nuts - I had chopped off bits to hang just above my ears on both sides and a bit at the top of the back 😂

Missey85 · 04/01/2022 10:14

Its just hair it'll grow back all kids do it I did when I was little

bounce89 · 04/01/2022 10:19

My ds10 did it on his way home from school the other week. 6 patches right down to the scalp.. it was awful!

He sat and sobbed while I shaved his hair off, I felt terrible but I doubt he'll be daft enough to do it again. He even insisted on wearing a hat in class for the first two days.

georgarina · 04/01/2022 10:21

My sister did this when she was little! Looks ridiculous but hair grows half an inch a month, it'll soon look fine

And I'm sure it won't be as bad as the lockdown haircuts I gave DC 🙈

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 04/01/2022 10:23

My seven year old did this just before the end of term. A week before the school were going to film the Christmas concert.
His hair was in need of a trim, but he cut his entire fringe off close to his scalp so there was this massive step of hair at the front. Ended up having to give him a grade 3 all over to even it up. He looked like an old fashioned convict.
Luckily for him his hair grows quite quickly.

Fynix · 04/01/2022 10:23

I did it when I was little and my sister compared me to a member of Slade 😂. It's normal but I'm extra cautious with scissors in case my 3 year old has the same idea.

Lucked · 04/01/2022 10:25

Mine did it at 4. Completely denied it despite a new wonky fringe. It was a few weeks before I found all the hair shoved between pieces of furniture.

godmum56 · 04/01/2022 10:25

Its hair. it grows back.

lanthanum · 04/01/2022 11:18

I thought I'd escaped - DD was about 7 when she tried it - on Good Friday, so no hairdresser available for a few days.

zingally · 04/01/2022 11:58

I think most kids do this at some point!

My sister took a whopping great chunk out of her fringe when she was about 6 or 7.

I'm a school teacher and I've had kids do it there as well.
There's no point making a big deal about it. Once it's done, it's done. And it'll grow back eventually!
