I am unreasonable, but I got a too good to go box, it had 6 cabbages and 10 sweetheart lettuce. What the fuck do I cook/meal ideas?
Thanks

Give them away! I would take one of each!

KiloWhat · 02/01/2022 20:56

That's loads!

Um.. use the leaves instead of tortillas
Cabbage soup
A BIG salad

KiloWhat · 02/01/2022 20:56

Looooads of coleslaw

Ifailed · 02/01/2022 20:57

Braised lettuce and peas.

TooMinty · 02/01/2022 20:58

Sauerkraut or kimchi? You can freeze cabbage too and just cook from frozen when you need veg as a side or throw a handful in soup or stew.

Sh05 · 02/01/2022 21:00

I'd freeze a few of the cabbages, then send one of each to each neighbour.

PartyPrawnRingGames · 02/01/2022 21:02

Make a mumsnet MASSIVE salad?

Pendolino · 02/01/2022 21:03

Haha, stop ordering too good to go boxes is your answer. But for now I would give them away. I tried TGTG and got a selection of wizened vegetables, a liter of goats milk and some moldy hummus. Never again!

2TurtleDovesInARow · 02/01/2022 21:03

Cabbage lasts forever. I think there's such thing as lettuce soup...possibly even freezable?

Why not send all 6 to one of the Mumsnet skinnies for their Massive Salads?

notacooldad · 02/01/2022 21:03

Put in a stir fry
Roast the lettuce ( seriously)
avocado and tuna wrapped in lettuce
Braise cabbage
fry cabbage with bacon

skybluee · 02/01/2022 21:04

I think I'd make kimchi as you could use it all.

ghostyslovesheets · 02/01/2022 21:04

Lettuce I have in a MN BIG salad

Cabbage - my step-dad used to make a lovely dish with cabbage and cheese sauce - yummy

Freelady · 02/01/2022 21:04

Hugh fernley wittington does a curry were you add lettuce at the end ofcooking .. it sounds.awful but is fab!! It sort of melts .
Cabbage.. stir fry ? With chilli sauce, soya and harrasia ? Like they do in wagga mamma?

saoirse31 · 02/01/2022 21:05

Bacon, cabbage and mashed potato, use cabbage in stir fried, lettuce soup maybe

Trivium4all · 02/01/2022 21:06

Bubble and squeak with the cabbage? I'm always at a bit of a loss with lettuce, and end up making endless salads.

110APiccadilly · 02/01/2022 21:08

Lettuce soup. I made some when we had a veg box with 5 or 6 lettuces and it was lovely.

Baked cabbage with cream and cheese - I use this recipe: cookonfire.weebly.com/baked-cabbage.html. Probably not terribly good for you, but very tasty.

These are delicious

mrsfeatherbottom · 02/01/2022 21:18

Pea, lettuce and mint soup

JohnSmithDrive · 02/01/2022 21:34

Letter risotto is my go to for surplus lettuce. It's much better than it sounds!

Chillyjellytotty · 02/01/2022 21:36

Great thank you :) I think I will give away most of the lettuce, not a fan of salad, especially in the winter. I know I should try it, but the thought of lettuce soup really doesn’t appeal.
I will try some of the cabbage recipes, everything is better with cheese, I will also freeze any we don’t eat, hasn’t thought of freezing it.
We have already had bubble and squeak that was my only cabbage idea 😅

My favourite cabbage recipe:

www.vegrecipesofindia.com/cabbage-thoran/

It freezes well.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 02/01/2022 21:42

Get a rabbit?

Sorry. I'm a bit drunk.

Quietly backing out of thread now......

pastypirate · 02/01/2022 22:04

Feed them to your rabbit. Though mine only really wants kale

I misread this as “mouldy humans”!
