Getting up as a parent

Aibu to wonder what time you get up to be with your children in the morning if they are of primary age (ie don't need constant supervision) and how long you leave them to play on their own before you get up with them?

Mines 7, she still hasn't figured out that she can get out of bed on her own 😂 so anywhere from half 6... Yay

Love this thread. My 6 & 8yos get up about 7am & watch TV/tablets cuddled up together on sofa . On Sundays & schools holidays I can stretch it to 9/9.30 before I feel too guilty about needing to get up.

So for extra time in bed just let young children use screens?! Does anyone worry about the amount of screen time their kids get? 🤔

No not at all. What do you suggest, a 7am session of origami or perhaps some calligraphy? I think I will take my chances.

Nope, because screens aren't the devil

@birdglasspen it’s nothing new. Many of us are of the generation where the cartoons kept us company for a couple of hours before our parents surfaced at the weekend.

We watched hours and hours of Saturday morning television in my house when I was growing up. All successful adults with degrees/masters/PhDs. What is it you fear will happen?

I loved getting up in the morning to watch cartoons as a kid. I was an early riser so by 9am I was bored and waiting for my mum.

I have a teen who sleeps til midday. We started being able to sleep in when he was about 7.

It's so sad that anything that benefits a parent too is painted as selfish or lazy. When I first told my Son he could put the TV on if he was up first and didn't have to wait for me he was really disappointed for me to ever beat him to it. I always used to get up first as a kid and also wait home while my Mum did a shop or something, secure kids don't stress if they can't see you at all times.
