To think i'm coming down with a stomach bug?

I have reached the grand old age of 38 without ever having a nosebleed, until last week.

Tonight, I have a horrible feeling I am getting my first bout of norovirus.

Please can I have a handhold whilst I wait this out? I stomach ache that comes on in waves, really high up. A very ominous and audible gurgling from within and feeling generally ropey. Appetite is fine and I've eaten my dinner with no issues other than stomach ache and apologies, smelly trumps.

If this is a bug, how long before I know? I am about 2 hours with the pain and gurgling...

OMG you're posting on an online forum about having a tummy ache?

Grow up!

You don't need a 'hand hold'. Just make sure you have plenty of bog roll.

Bellafrenum · 30/12/2021 18:34

Could you be pregnant?

TinyLittlePandaSneeze · 30/12/2021 18:35

Get some water in you
Get lots of loo roll to hand in the bathroom

Good luck!

Yeah, I’m a Bit baffled by this too. A handhold? 😂
Techno56 · 30/12/2021 18:38

You don't feel like eating when you have a stomach bug coming on. Far from it.

QuestionableMouse · 30/12/2021 18:39

Bleach surfaces if you vomit on them. Keep your towels and such separate and give them a good hot wash too. You don't want to pass it on.

It's also fine to take imodium as needed (well, according to the packet directions). It's not going to make it worse or prolong your illness.

Pippa12 · 30/12/2021 19:18

Honest to god… there is no mistaking norovirus. You’ll likely be spewing whilst simultaneously shitting yourself inside out.

A gurgle in your stomach is like a stroll through fairyland compared to a dose of norovirus Confused

Wow! What a friendly bunch you are!
I remember sitting in on a similar thread last year where many mumsnetters kept the op occupied until the conclusion. Seems I’m not so lucky

Norovirus starts with spontaneous vomiting, there is no "coming down with it" - your fine then your not with no build up. Hopefully it's just wind OP.

stripetop · 30/12/2021 19:24

@MalbecandToast yes this! OP I never got sick, till I had children. Norovirus is very sudden vomiting, no warning. So hopefully you will be fine.

2022IamHavingYa · 30/12/2021 19:25

I was asking how it starts

Sorry to hear you’re feeling unwell OP.
Drink lots of water and get some lucozade in.

thetinsoldier · 30/12/2021 19:27

Why would it be norovirus? Not all sick bugs are...

If you were coming down with a bug, I don't think you'd have eaten tea...

Good luck, though. Look out cleaning stuff and loo roll...

Starcaller · 30/12/2021 19:29

Hope it doesn't progress, OP! DD and I had a vomiting bug about two weeks go and it was grim, but there was very little warning before it began! And it was horrible but the worst of it was over within 24-36 hours.

If it does strike, make sure to keep drinking. I couldn't keep anything down but it was nicer to have something to throw up than the constant heaving on an empty stomach.

2022IamHavingYa · 30/12/2021 19:30

I’ve never had a stomach bug before so no idea how they start. I was just asking.
As you were

OP, some of the replies to you are just mean. Lots of us feel anxious at the thought of even fairly minor illnesses, and coming on here for support is fine. The good thing is that you'll know by now probably if you're going to vomit. The fact you could eat your tea sounds positive. Hopefully it's just a slightly unsettled tummy and you could try taking an indigestion remedy to help. How are you feeling?

Starcaller · 30/12/2021 19:34

And I sympathise. I'd never had a vomiting bug as an adult and I'm 36. I was quite blasé about catching it from DD as I didn't think I was really prone to them, but it sure showed me! DH escaped at least, although he spent the days washing towels and sheets constantly instead Grin

2anddone · 30/12/2021 19:34

If you have had a nose bleed and never had one before and now your tummy feels 'gurgly' go get a pcr or take a lateral flow. My friend had covid over Christmas and had nose bleeds and bad diarrhoea no 'normal' symptoms at all only knew it was covid as tested positive on lateral flow!

Mumofone2021 · 30/12/2021 19:35

Well, my experience with norovirus was waking up suddenly at 2am with uncontrollable shits. I barely made it to the toilet, the next 72 hours were a blur. I was fully recovered after 24 hours but with 3 of us in the family we went down one after the other.

Hoppinggreen · 30/12/2021 19:38

My current Covid (I think) began with me feeling very nauseous and then having an explosive rear end that smelled unbelievably bad.
Then I got tonsillitis which then turned into more traditional Covid.
Hope you feel ok OP x

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 30/12/2021 19:38

People here are wrong. There are many stomach flus; I have had one recently which came on slowly - lots of feeling unwell for a day before the chundering began.

Also, vomiting bugs are horrible snd you have my support! Not that you get the choice, but the shits is always preferable. Much weight loss and none of the vomiting. It’s not ideal but if you got to choose…

Lipsandlashes · 30/12/2021 19:39

I also only had Norovirus after having children. I can remember the first time like it was yesterday - had to take DD into the clinic to be weighed and it just came over me as I was in the waiting room. I ran outside and vomited all over the car park (I was also 8 weeks pregnant but knew it wasn’t morning sickness). DH came home early from work with the exact same symptoms. I couldn’t keep anything down for 3 days except icepops. We now always have an emergency supply of those in the freezer.

MalbecandToast · 30/12/2021 19:41

@Justheretoaskaquestion91 you are right there are lots of different bugs, but norovirus is unique in that it is sudden onset and no build up. Its one of it'd jey features.

Omicrone · 30/12/2021 19:44

I have never had Norovirus but I imagine it might be similar to the food poisoning scene in Bridesmaids. One minute you are OK, the next there are some rumbles and suddenly it's coming out of you 'like lava'.

Hope you are OK OP - it's possible that you might have eaten something a bit dodgy and your body is sorting it but it's just making you feel a bit 'ick'. Hopefully the next 24 hours will be kind to you.
