Fish for new year lunch 🐟

Dontbeamugallyourlifesucker · 28/12/2021 16:59

I am sick of being in the kitchen cooking all the Beef/Pork/Turkey hot dinners with all the seasonal vegetc, where I spend all day in the kitchen 😬 this new year day, I am getting 2 x full salmon to cook, with new potatoes, green beans and a prawn cocktail. The family is not happy🙄 but I am doing it! Sick of slaving at the cooker all over xmas! Ps there are over 13+ 😢

Does the family LIKE salmon? All 13 of them?

It wouldn't really change my answer though, that if they all want the traditional dinner, then one of the 13 is welcome to take over cooking duties.

Alternatively, you could stop offering to host.

Dontbeamugallyourlifesucker · 28/12/2021 17:04

Oh god! I have just read back! I am so stupid 😥 I get no break to relax 😪

If you are cooking, you decide. For me I would have a different starter, not seafood and then fish (would probably go for soup) but its not me cooking.

Dontbeamugallyourlifesucker · 28/12/2021 17:07

Also have 2 members of family just said they are going vegetarian fir the new year 😐 what the hell do I cook them😢

you offer what you wish as host - if someone feels it's not for them then they can offer a dish

ComtesseDeSpair · 28/12/2021 17:08

If “the family” don’t like it then they can offer to host and cook themselves, or suggest a pot luck so that everyone has something they like, surely? Frankly, I’d be doing away with the salmon idea and telling them that either of those are their options now.

Cindie943811A · 28/12/2021 17:09

That’s pretty much what we’re having as of choice. Sounds lovely and healthy after lots of meat
Enjoy!
Those that don’t care for it can cater for themselves after you’ve finished in the kitchen

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 28/12/2021 17:11

Do you have a partner? Do they help at all?

Why invite 13 people over if you don't want to cook for them?

Either cancel or hand out some takeaway menus and tell them to crack on... then put your feet up. No point being a martyr.

Dontbeamugallyourlifesucker · 28/12/2021 17:14

All my 4 x sons and there wife's and lovely grandkids come here on Xmas day and new years day( love them being here) but it's all the different meals they expect 😥 wife's on diets! Kids being fussy, my sons not bloody sticking to to Christmas menu rules I made months ago😢.. One day a year I have them for Xmas and New year ( which I love)

New potatoes and green beans :D Plus they could add whatever main ingredient they fancied. Or, if you were feeling kind, you could make them a cheese and broccoli quiche?
Dontbeamugallyourlifesucker · 28/12/2021 17:18

I don't have a partner, I love having them all over. I try too hard as I want them to have a lovely time😍 they are my family and I want every thing to be good. I try to please them ❤️

@Dontbeamugallyourlifesucker. You have a good username. I reckon you should take your own advice and make a resolution for 2022 being the year whereby you stop allowing your family to take the piss.

Starting on January 1st with New Year's dinner. Smile

PickAChew · 28/12/2021 17:20

Yanbu to keep it simple but I would want more veg than green beans (in fact any veg other than green beans because legumes in their pods make me gag. It's a texture I just can't cope with)

MeredithGreyishblue · 28/12/2021 17:20

What are the Christmas day menu rules????

TinyLittlePandaSneeze · 28/12/2021 17:20

You are not a restaurant they get one option and maybe a vegetarian alternative if you want

What christmas menu rules? This all sounds very regimental
EerieSilence · 28/12/2021 17:24

Why can't you buy some ready made stuff from the likes of M&S or similar? Add canapes and desserts. Job done.

Dontbeamugallyourlifesucker · 28/12/2021 17:24

OK.. Cheese and broccoli flan is good.. Lots of new potatoes and fresh green bean sound good.. God how you worry when you don't think what you are doing is good enough 😢 I an also doing some potato salad and coleslaw, I just want everything to be OK 😊

This.

I’d serve Salmon en croute plus some cheesy vegetarian en croute equivalent.

TinyLittlePandaSneeze · 28/12/2021 17:25

Why aren't they happy are they allergic to fish?
Tell them to cook if they are that bothered

Dontbeamugallyourlifesucker · 28/12/2021 17:27

They are coming new years eve am and staying until the day after New year's day.. So excited 😁😊 lots of different drinks in and lots of food.. Looking so forward to it 😍

I don't understand. How is this you giving up? You are still cooking an amazing meal by producing whole cooked salmons on NYD. That's a great menu. They are lucky to have you.

TinyLittlePandaSneeze · 28/12/2021 17:28

Sounds nice. Just relax, you'll be fine.

BananaPant · 28/12/2021 17:29

What time would you like me?

That menu sounds bloody delicious... 😋😋😋😋

HippeePrincess · 28/12/2021 17:29

Why can’t your sons cook?
I’ve never been anywhere where I’ve not offered to either being something or help cook and clear away, I think you may have set the precedent here? Why do your sons think this is ok? Mine sure as hell won’t!
