So card put though my front door on Boxing Day (so a Sunday where there was no postal
service), addressed to my previous married name (which I still go under at work). Stamp on letter but unfranked. Haven’t seen me for ages not will be here in Feb when we must meet for lunch.

Very chatty married lady with two now nearly adult sons.

Signed from all four. Thing is I don’t have a fucking clue who they are. I have asked other friends, colleagues, family and absolutely racked my brains and it’s absolutely doing my head in and am not feeling uneasy about it as it was clearly hand delivered.

ARGH - I know I am over thinking but this is so weird?!

I’m not sure if this is the answer but there’s been a big thing on some social media platforms about doing this to unsuspecting friends/family. It’s exactly as you describe, and the fun for the sender is the complete confusion it causes for the recipient.

Besswess88 · 28/12/2021 11:12

Really? I can’t think of anyone show ours so this to me?!

What a fucking weird thing to do 🤷‍♀️

Anyone who would sorry - typos 🙈🙈

Have you googled all four names together to see if anyone comes up? I agree it's likely to be a prank but that might help.

I thought this too

Yes I have googled and FB searched 🙈🙈🙈

Perhaps I've had a sense of humour bypass but I think, if it is a prank, that's more disconcerting than funny.

LubaLuca · 28/12/2021 11:17

Pick a phrase from the message and Google it - it might show up as part of a suggested prank.

If it is a wind up, it's fallen flat from them being so dim as to drop it through your door on Boxing Day.

Quite - esp as most of my close friends know that I have recently left my husband because he was abusive. It’s really disconcerting, esp the fact they came to my house on Boxing Day.

I’m a bit confused - how do you know it was a “very chatty, married lady” if the card was put through the door?

Iusedtobeasister · 28/12/2021 11:19

I don’t get the fun of it either but I’ve seen it a lot in the last few weeks. The idea is that the sender keeps sending cards for birthdays/Christmas etc adding to the confusion Confused

The card was “chatty” sorry, and her husbands name was included on the signature.

There is a massive TikTok prank going around where people receive mystery cards from people they don’t actually know.

Besswess88 · 28/12/2021 11:23

Hmm my kids were here on Boxing Day, I have messaged our group chat….

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 28/12/2021 11:23

It might not be hand delivered as such - I find that many cards come through unfranked at Christmas and it could have been posted through a neighbour's door in error and they've just found it.

Yuledo · 28/12/2021 11:25

Sounds a stupid idea for fun.

Besswess88 · 28/12/2021 11:26

Thing is it’s really freaked me out 😭

OP posts:
LetsGoThenSanta · 28/12/2021 11:27

If someone's done it as a prank, it's really not funny. Especially as you've just come out of an abusive relationship.
I don't understand stupid pranks at all.

FaoinDrualus · 28/12/2021 11:28

Was it from a couple called Janet and Roy?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas/2213210-Janet-Roy-mystery-round-robin

Besswess88 · 28/12/2021 11:30

No 🤣 it was hand written not a round robin.

OP posts:
VanGoghsDog · 28/12/2021 11:30

I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I've got a Christmas card in my car that was posted through my door by the postie to completely the wrong address, it's about three streets away and I've kept meaning to drop it off - it's entirely possible that when I do pop it through it will be a non postol day (maybe today!) but it won't really have been "hand delivered".

Also, loads of post gets through without being franked.

So, I reckon that's what happened.

Can't help you with who tf they are though!

HunterGatherer · 28/12/2021 11:30

There was a bit of a thing fir this on here for a while....Janet and Roy they called it.
Don't let it get to you OP, it was a Xmas card not a death threat.

southernbelles · 28/12/2021 11:35

I had a colleague about 6 years ago who used to do the Janet & Roy thing to her parents. She extended it to birthdays, annual family newsletters, Easter etc & would regale us with regular updates Hmm a very irritating person!
