So card put though my front door on Boxing Day (so a Sunday where there was no postal
service), addressed to my previous married name (which I still go under at work). Stamp on letter but unfranked. Haven’t seen me for ages not will be here in Feb when we must meet for lunch.

Very chatty married lady with two now nearly adult sons.

Signed from all four. Thing is I don’t have a fucking clue who they are. I have asked other friends, colleagues, family and absolutely racked my brains and it’s absolutely doing my head in and am not feeling uneasy about it as it was clearly hand delivered.

ARGH - I know I am over thinking but this is so weird?!

@southernbelles

I had a colleague about 6 years ago who used to do the Janet & Roy thing to her parents. She extended it to birthdays, annual family newsletters, Easter etc & would regale us with regular updates Hmm a very irritating person!
We have one of these people in our office.

She is the most irritating person I have ever met in my life.

If there was a stamp on it I expect it had been delivered to the wrong address and that person just posted it through your door. With the price of stamps I can't see anyone wasting one on a prank!

diddl · 28/12/2021 11:53

So I guess the point of it is hat you have spent time trying to figure out who they are when you should just have binned it as you don't know them?

Not really as they clearly “know” me and my name (former name) and my address and I am not publicly on the electoral roll.

"...addressed to my previous married name (which I still go under at work)."

"We have one of these people in our office. She is the most irritating person I have ever met in my life."

If you are only known by your previous married name at work, is it a possibility that your irritating office colleague has delivered this?

ShrinkingViolet9 · 28/12/2021 12:40

I'd bin it and forget about it. When you're back at work, mention casually to the office that you received a daft Christmas card on Boxing Day purporting to be from a family that you don't know and you would think people had better things to do with their time.

No I think/hope not as I hope she senses the “space” between us and I am also her manager so would be very inappropriate.

I took the dog for a walk Boxing Day and followed a post office van that was delivering, thinking about it they are probably still working getting PCR tests etc in / out.

Besswess88 · 28/12/2021 13:49

But not normal Mail surely?

After I had DS2 I got a card and couldn't think who it was from and DH didn't know them either. I eventually remembered it was someone from work. Baby brain Blush

BlankTimes · 28/12/2021 13:53

If it's going to bother you OP, get a ring doorbell with video, then you can see whoever comes to your door.

My kids have got me one for Xmas, I need them to put it up for me 🙈🙈🙈

I think you only need to focus on the woman's name. The fact the others have signed it doesn't mean they know who you are. Presumably there was just a first name? Have you bought your house recently? Could it be a previous owner?

Besswess88 · 28/12/2021 14:09

I don’t know anyone with the women’s Christian name, I have been here 16 years …

They have recently got a pet parrot 🤣🙈

We had the exact same thing happen to us last week. Stamp on envelope but unfranked. Signed by some random people that we don’t know. I figure it was someone’s idea of a joke. Stupid though.

LittleRoundRobin · 28/12/2021 14:16

Never heard of this fake Christmas card 'prank.' Sounds harmless but a bit pointless, daft, and unfunny. Confused

SadSplinter · 28/12/2021 14:28

That’s a very unfunny prank.

Couchbettato · 28/12/2021 14:46

You've just reminded me of a very peculiar situation.

When XH and I lived together we got a letter through the post with no name on it, just an address.

When we opened it, there was just a really cheap BIC biro, and under the flap a return address to a man in Bulgaria.

When we googled this man the clos at we could find was a Bulgarian politician who had died years ago.

It was so strange.

Sorry. Completely not relevant to Christmas, just thought I'd share my weird story.

RuthO86 · 28/12/2021 14:54

This is 100% your kids pranking you. This has been a very popular prank on TikTok all Christmas. Exactly how you've described it, stamp on but put through letter box, made up names, more chatty to confuse the person opening.

And looks like it's worked!!

StoneofDestiny · 28/12/2021 16:52

Have any of your neighbours got your married surname?

Besswess88 · 28/12/2021 18:27

Only my NDN and I see them all the time.

OP, I think this link you posted has the answer.
