How can I get norethisterone to stop a period ASAP, I'm going on holiday at 5am weds, NHS direct won't help, an online pharmacy can't get it to me in time because of bank holiday is there anywhere like superdrug that will do it face to face?

Have you taken it before? I had it during IVF and it made me feel awful.

Totallyfoodedout · 27/12/2021 19:53

It's a prescribed drug so you'll need a doctor to sign it. I only got it the same day because I was losing so much blood. I think it'd be hard to get it if it's not urgent.

I had it before and it didn't make me feel awful. So maybe a bit less catastrophising?

Are you anywhere near a Superdrug or Boots OP? Boots is online consultation but you can pick up in-store

That’s not true.

You can get it prescribed at Boots and Superdrug, and elsewhere.

Haggisfish3 · 27/12/2021 19:56

I have sent a pm to you.

CorrBlimeyGG · 27/12/2021 19:56

Superdrug and Boots offer it, but it needs to be reviewed by a doctor first, you'd need to ask if the service is available on a bank holiday.

One of the private online GP services may be open. Did you really ring NHS Direct?!

Haggisfish3 · 27/12/2021 19:57

It’s not hard to get.

Haggisfish3 · 27/12/2021 19:57

Why would you not phone nhs direct? It’s a perfectly reasonable thing to do if gp is shut.

Bluntness100 · 27/12/2021 19:59

You’ll need to go to a pharmacy tomorrow op.

I’d say I think it’s great but I found rhe recommend dose too high and I could stall my periods with one a day but you need to experiment. Which obvs you don’t hAve time to do.

Pop to a boots tomorrow.

Yes, same. Definitely something worth doing a dry run with before taking (appreciate you don't have time though, OP Sad). I used it on holiday and it was bloody awful.

I respectfully, but strongly, disagree that a drug that is just to benefit a holiday is absolutely not a reason to use critically overstretched NHS services during a bank holiday in a pandemic Xmas Confused.

OP - try Boots or a private GP online service.

Totallyfoodedout · 27/12/2021 20:01

@phishy it is prescibed.

Delaying your period for your jolly is not something the out of hours doctor (that's who any prescription request will be sent to) should be dealing with!

SheSaidHummingbird · 27/12/2021 20:05

I'm surprised you're travelling when will-he-or-won't-he Boris is leaning towards restrictions and maybe circuit break/ lockdown

Name99 · 27/12/2021 20:13

Yes I'm travelling as there are no restrictions, why would I not ?
I'm fully vaccinated and have booked all appropriate tests and have insurance would you cancel a holiday there is no need to cancel, really?

Well they are dealing with it, but they have messed up the call back and I'm back in the list, they've admitted they closed the call down in error and there is no other option to go back in the list waiting for a call. I need a GP and it's out of hours, so NHS direct deal with it. But due to time ticking I'm trying to sort it out with a private prescription

PeaceONoeuf · 27/12/2021 20:18

Can you use an online GP? I paid about £60 for a consultation with one for something.

How selfish can you be?

PeaceONoeuf · 27/12/2021 20:28

I used the gp service

Rubyupbeat · 27/12/2021 20:29

I would see a private gp in a spire hospital, he will prescribe from their pharmacy.

phishy · 27/12/2021 20:31

I meant that you can use Boots / Superdrug service, you don’t need to go to your GP.

Ilikewinter · 27/12/2021 20:32

Boots online doctor service will do it today and collect in store tomorrow

Where have you read that? Today's news seems to suggest the opposite
Haggisfish3 · 27/12/2021 20:33

I think if it gp surgeries weren’t closed today and tomorrow I would agree with the selfish/phone gp etc people. But nhs 111 is there for medical advice. When gps are shut. Op has an urgent medical problem and isn’t sure what to do. And it’s a simple ten minute consult and button press to get script sent to local pharmacy.
