How can I get norethisterone to stop a period ASAP, I'm going on holiday at 5am weds, NHS direct won't help, an online pharmacy can't get it to me in time because of bank holiday is there anywhere like superdrug that will do it face to face?

Not really selfish is it when I've exhausted the option of paying for it online and it's a bank holiday and there is no postal service to allow it to be posted,
I've paid for the medication which will now be a waste as it will arrive after I've left when I have been unable to do this I've contacted NHS direct
I'm sure there are lots of people ringing NHS direct and turning up at walk in centres that have no clinical need, this is something only a Dr can deal with and there is no postal service to allow me to sort this out, so that's what NHS direct is for, a need for a Dr OOH when my surgery is closed.

Since when can't women go on holiday if they are having a period?

Name99 · 27/12/2021 20:40

Oh I can go on holiday I just don't want my period when I'm there
I have managed to do a consultation with boots and should hopefully be able to collect tomorrow.
NHS direct confirmed that I'd done the right thing in ringing as it's a long bank holiday weekend and I needed a Dr, I would have received a call if an admin error hadn't happened.
I'll leave it with them to judge whether my query deserved a call, not MN I thank the posters who were v v helpful and hopefully I've sorted with no cost to the NHS

I wanted to go on a wild camping and kayaking holiday, neither of which are compatible with my ridiculously heavy periods. Practise nurse was more than happy to prescribe norethisterone and wishes me a happy holiday.

Oh absolutely periods can be very light and manageable or flooding and uncomfortable - staying in an hotel with an en-suite is tricky sometimes. I take tranexamic acide for mine now.

I work in a GP surgery and we now charge £25 for issuing private prescriptions for medication for holidays. I hope 111 charge the same as the NHS really should not be incurring costs for holidays
