Did anyone else have a bloody lovely Christmas?

Since mumsnet has been sufficiently gloomy about Christmas to lead one poster to question whether the entire thing should just be cancelled outright, any positive stories to offer a counter view?

I had a bloody lovely day. Got to spend hours cuddling my beautiful baby nephew, who spent many weeks this year in hospital but is now out and doing brilliantly. Spent time with family who I missed desperately last year. Saw my son adored and cherished by my family. Got thoughtful, generous presents and had the joy of seeing people really appreciate and enjoy the things I gave them. Ate lovely food. Read my book by the fire. Walked on beautiful, snowy hills. Cuddled my childhood dog.

Anyone else?

That sounds lovely, and so pleased to hear about your nephew.
We had both sets of grandparents over for the day. Everything went smoothly and it was a lovely day, especially since I'd assumed someone would test positive and not be able to come. It really was a perfect day.

itsgettingweird · 26/12/2021 17:11

I did.

Everything about it was lovely.

I also had thoughtful gifts - all stuff I can use and will use everyday/ week of the next year and beyond.

We do simple though.

Own houses am and all to parents on for 5/6 hours to include dinner and Presents and Christmas quiz!

I think most who don't enjoy it tend to feel all on show and have guests far longer than they can cope with.

ToykotoLosAngeles · 26/12/2021 17:12

I did! Just the three of us, lovely food and presents, no pressure.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 26/12/2021 17:13

Yes it was very relaxing and enjoyable. At home with my parents to stay. They pulled their weight entertaining DCs and doing dishwasher duty etc. Everyone had nice presents and we got on well. Plenty of nice food and drink. No complaints here and pleased vovid didn't fuck it up

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 26/12/2021 17:13

Just me , dh and dd.
Got up when we felt it, had a leisurely breakfast of eggs benedict, opened pressies which we were all happy with.
Then we danced about in the kitchen, prepped dinner which was apparently the best dinner ever.
Then we watched tv ate chocolates and fell asleep.
It was great.

Offmyfence · 26/12/2021 17:14

We hosted 10, it was great, we ate, we drank, we laughed, we danced.

I'm very envious of the snowy hills

I love Christmas 🎄

icedcoffees · 26/12/2021 17:14

Yep, ours was fantastic - just DH and I at home, plus the dog.

We had a lie-in, took to the dog for a walk along the beach, had shower, cooked lunch and just lazed around in front of the TV for the rest of the day :)

It was absolutely lovely - no stresses, no pressure, no worry. Today has been more of the same and just as lovely! Grin

Lovely day here. I had a baby on Monday and it was an easy birth/recovery, ordered all the food from a local vegetarian cafe and had a really chilled day. My husband got me 3 really thoughtful presents and everyone was pleased with their lot. And neither the newborn nor the toddler cried during dinner! Ended the day eating chocolate, drinking a cocktail, breastfeeding my newborn and watching Die Hard.

WorraLiberty · 26/12/2021 17:15

Yes, we did.

Just me, DH, our 3 adult DS and one of their girlfriends.

We had a lovely chilled day yesterday and as usual DH cooked the roast, played board games last night, chilled again today (with pizza!) and will play more tonight.

Whenever my DS's all come here together (although 19yr old still lives here), it makes me thankful how much they all enjoy each other's company.

2TurtleDovesInARow · 26/12/2021 17:16

Also went to to bed with a tidy house and clean kitchen!!

This has made me smile so much, what a truly lovely Christmas.

The love coming from your post and describing your lovely family, is wonderful ❤️

Moonface123 · 26/12/2021 17:18

Yes, but l don't place too many expectations on the day, l love the build up, and l try and keep things simple. l like getting out for a walk, cook a nice turkey dinner, my older teenagers tend to do their own thing, which is fine, youngest did come out on the walk. l prefer it just the three of us, much easier.

Tal45 · 26/12/2021 17:18

Had such a lovely chilled day just the three of us. So upset that it's all over for another year now.

KarlUrbansWife · 26/12/2021 17:18

Yes, it was truly wonderful ❤
We hosted and had my entire family together at Christmas for the first time in about 10 years. Everything was chilled, dinner turned out great and we all had lots of fun, the memories will last a very long time.

FreedomFaith · 26/12/2021 17:18

Was a great day. Spent time with family, learnt a new card game, played other games, ate amazing good, and got great presents. Smile

Forgotthespuds · 26/12/2021 17:19

Mine was really lovely. Just me & the kids. Early start opening stockings in bed. Kids loved all their gifts. Made steak & chips for tea and spend the day drinking prosecco, building lego and putting together playsets. Video call with all the family. My kids left with their dad & his wife and her kids this morning all excited to do Christmas again today with his family . Perfect

SheWolfOFFrancee · 26/12/2021 17:20

Yes absolutely fabulous

Stayed home just me, DH and 3 DC. Chilled morning opening presents, no stress lunch (roast lamb) and a lovely afternoon of tv, toys and dozing.

Zero rushing around, driving for hours and no toxic family members

70smillie · 26/12/2021 17:22

We did. Very chilled. DC really appreciated their gifts, which weren't anything spectacular. Older DC (early & mid teens) are helpful now, pitching with cooking and tidying. All good. I love Christmas but don't put a lot of pressure on the day, just focus on making it an opportunity for us all to slow down. We have some traditions but don't put too much emphasis on them so if things don't happen it's no biggie.

Bagadverts · 26/12/2021 17:23

Yes greater day.

Booklover3 · 26/12/2021 17:23

Yes we did

LynetteScavo · 26/12/2021 17:25

It wasn't perfect but I have spent the last three days incredibly thankful that we have no money concerns, my immediate family are in good health mentally and physically and we've been able to visit wider family this year. I appreciate how very, very lucky we are.

BabbleBee · 26/12/2021 17:25

Yes, lovely for me too. Even working has been ok (nurse) thanks to the fantastic team I’m part of.

ParkheadParadise · 26/12/2021 17:25

I find Christmas a very emotional and sad time but I did have a nice time yesterday.
All my family came over 18 Adults 12 children 🙈🙈.
Dd(6) had the best day and that's what's important to me.
Dinner was a bit stressful 😄 but everyone seemed happy.
I am glad it's over.

Garysmum · 26/12/2021 17:26

No I was on my own and will be for a few days but I am pleased others had a great day.I am going to have attempt 2 at Christmas in a week

Badbadbunny · 26/12/2021 17:26

Yep, had a very quiet day, no fuss, no expectations, just the three of us, no other relatives, etc. No "big" presents, just a few simple/cheap basic items. Simple meals, mostly pre-prepared. Probably the best Xmas we've had.
