How safe would you feel walking your dog on your own at this time of night in your area?

Feeling a bit blue, all alone on Christmas night and contemplating walking the dog, as that always helps my mood. Would you?

CovidPassQuestion · 25/12/2021 21:07

I certainly would. That said, it's torrential here today.

CristinaYangismySpiritAnimal · 25/12/2021 21:09

Yes, I would do this.

44PumpLane · 25/12/2021 21:10

I definitely would where I live, but if you are in any doubt about your area then don't chance it.

RomeoMcFlourish · 25/12/2021 21:10

I live in a fairly rural area but would walk a dog on my own along the main roads.

dashoflime · 25/12/2021 21:10

How large is my hypothetical dog?

PanettoneDisappointment · 25/12/2021 21:10

Yes, but depends on dog. Ours looks intimating.

MsJaneAusten · 25/12/2021 21:10

I’d feel safe walking with or without a dog here. I’m very lucky with where I live though.

SantaPaws1 · 25/12/2021 21:11

Just took mine out on my own now - feels safe enough I think

SpanielsAreMyLife · 25/12/2021 21:11

We're very rural and I'm just about to wizz mine out. We've got a field with a footpath in over the road behind some houses so I always feel safe walking along that at night.

Hallowbat · 25/12/2021 21:11

Yes I’d feel fine, town centre here

Branleuse · 25/12/2021 21:11

I would, but if its late i tend to walk her round the streets or into town where theres streetlights.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 25/12/2021 21:12

I would not think twice a
about it.

cheesecadet · 25/12/2021 21:13

I'm in a town with medium crime rate. Yes it's baltic out there and I've never really known how my dog would react if someone attacked me, I have a feeling he would be a wimp, but he goes for me if I try to get something out of his mouth, so who knows?!!

OP posts:
DrEllie · 25/12/2021 21:18

I'd take my old girl out with me. She isn't ferocious and only medium size but I reckon she'd protect me if someone threatened me. I think most dogs would

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 25/12/2021 21:18

My dog is an tough looking idiot so I frequently walk or run with her at night, we live in a naice town now but I used to live in a shitty Birmingham suburb and still went out then.
I am tall and look handy so I don't tend to feel very vulnerable even when I'm out at night.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 25/12/2021 21:19

Absolutely I would.

DramaAlpaca · 25/12/2021 21:19

Very safe here, we are quite rural. I wouldn't think twice about it.

YewandOak · 25/12/2021 21:24

Not long got back from a walk with my son,no dog though. Felt very safe, even a walk through the cemetery about 8.30pm.No one else out and about except a few cars. Was lovely and peaceful.

HeyFloof · 25/12/2021 21:36

With my chihuahua, no. Scrappy little shit but not much good in a fight.

With the staffy, without a second thought. She was a lovely gentle old girl, but if she thought someone was going to hurt me or my sister, she'd definitely have made a mess of them.

emmetgirl · 25/12/2021 21:39

I would but I live in a really safe area with very little crime thankfully

Greydog · 25/12/2021 21:41

Yes, I would. Semi rural here. I'm out with her at 5 most mornings, evening walk 11ish. I have been out later, and the other week she had an upset tum and woke me up at 4am to go out! I like it best in the summer when the mornings are light

CaptainThe95thRifles · 25/12/2021 21:41

Too early for me Grin I prefer to walk the dog around midnight. I scare the occasional youth, but have never had reason to be scared myself. Dog is a medium sized fluffy bunny who might lick you to death, he's less of a deterrent than a choir boy in a puppy onesie to be honest.

Largethighsbadeyes · 25/12/2021 21:42

I'd feel safe as houses. He's a big dog

Flaunch · 25/12/2021 21:43

I walk my dog over the fields all the time in the evening with a head torch on. I have never seen another person.

Porcupineintherough · 25/12/2021 21:44

I dont have a dog at the moment but would be happy to walk one if I did. That said, some years ago I was attacked whilst walking my dog and the daft thing just stood there looking confused and half heartedly wagging his tail whilst I shouted and pushed the guy off (he was a fairly shitty mugger tbf but my dog was a bloody useless guard dog as it turned out. Soft bugger).
