To defrost food from last Christmas for tomorrow?!

Will I give us all food poisoning? I have some courgette patties made with raw egg, cheese and ricotta that I froze and forgot about. Can I defrost them and serve tomorrow?!

I wouldn't eat something like that which has been frozen for a year. It won't kill you but I don't think it will be at its best either.

AgentJohnson · 24/12/2021 09:23

Er no, the texture and quality of the patties would be terrible. Make new ones or make something else.

Calvinlookingforhobbes · 24/12/2021 09:23

No way. It won’t taste great either.

SleighbellsZ · 24/12/2021 09:24

Anything with egg in frozen needs to be ate within 3/4 month for freshness.

Lastmincook · 24/12/2021 09:24

Ok, that’s what I thought!!

Well our joint of beef for this year has been in the freezer for 13 months, but I'm not sure I would eat what you have in mind OP.

NavigatingAdolescence · 24/12/2021 09:27

I will be defrosting last year’s spare Parsnip and Cheese roulade which is a bit of a risk.

But I wouldn’t if your courgette things weren’t cooked. Raw egg probably won’t fare well for that long.

gamerchick · 24/12/2021 09:30

It's not a risk I doubt but it probably won't be at it's best when you eat it. Plus you'll have a nagging doubt which won't help you enjoy it.

KarmaStar · 24/12/2021 09:44

Envy..not envy!that's gross op!

TheHoptimist · 24/12/2021 09:45

We have the turkey gravy- its fine- had some few weeks ago

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 24/12/2021 09:51

I would 🤷

I don't keep track of how long stuff has been in the freezer. Haven't been ill yet.

CounsellorTroi · 24/12/2021 09:53

I wouldn’t. I found some stuffing from last year in my freezer but there is no way I’ll be using it

JustJustWhy · 24/12/2021 09:56

I used last year's stock for pumpkin soup last weekend, and just took out the sausage meat this morning for stuffing and sausage rolls.

It's not at all unusual for us to have items in the freezer longer than a year, we just make sure they are fully defrosted and thoroughly cooked before eating.

papayaorange · 24/12/2021 10:23

If you do, glad I am not coming for dinner!

LittleRoundRobin · 24/12/2021 10:24

Ew that's grim. No way. Shock

Go ahead if you are happy to spend Boxing Day in A & E

Grim that people have food a year old still in their freezer

Frankzappa22 · 24/12/2021 10:35

We had some parts of the turkey in the freezer from last year. I didn’t want to give it to people on Christmas Day as wasn’t sure how it would be but we ate it the other day and it was fine. Didn’t taste ‘freezer’y at all abd the texture etc was all fine. It was completely sealed though. If the pack isn’t absolutely water and air tight it wouldn’t taste nice. Defrost one today and see if it’s ok

Why? We’re still merrily making our way though last year’s Brexit stash (bought a whole separate freezer for it). It’s all good.
dottiedodah · 24/12/2021 10:41

I usually clear out the freezer every few months .Never keep Ice Cream longer than 4/6 months tops.I think its not worth the risk really

Good for you. We have 4 freezers and busy lives. I may get chance to go through them once a year if I’m lucky.
