Watching the above (under duress), and it just leaves me cold; there are so many great Christmas films in comparison.

YABU, and even the suggestion, well, I LOATHE ENTIRELY.

OneRuleForThem · 22/12/2021 21:38

Have never seen it but it can’t be worse than Elf surely?

Crepuscularshadows · 22/12/2021 21:40

Film is shit but I still read the book to my (far too old) teen-agers on Christmas Eve.

You, sir, have a heart that is two sizes to small!!

(joke - I'm sure you just can't cope with any more Carey bollox)

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 22/12/2021 21:42

YABU

DamnShesaSexyChick · 22/12/2021 21:44

I don’t like the live action one but I think the animated one is great.

DancerPrancerDonnerBlitzen · 22/12/2021 21:45

I like the animated one with Benedictine Cumberbatch. Don't like the live action one with whoever it is.

EmergencyHydrangea · 22/12/2021 21:45

The animated one is lovely

Nayday · 22/12/2021 21:45

Definitely BU. Grinch understands Christmas too well. I love the film Elf to bits, but Buddy is also a massive Christmas pain in the arse, causing chaos in his wake 🤣. Grinch sees through all the BS and is kind at heart ❤️

switswoo81 · 22/12/2021 21:53

No yabu, watched the animated one with my class of infants on Monday and there wasn't one peep out of them for 90 mins..I loved it !

dabdab · 22/12/2021 21:58

Have not seen the Jim Carey one, but do see the original animated one (from the ‘70s) - it is lovely!

pizzaobsessed · 22/12/2021 22:03

@MrsTimRiggins

YABU, and even the suggestion, well, I LOATHE ENTIRELY.
This.
MrsLeclerc · 22/12/2021 22:09

The Jim Carey one is really bad. The Whoo’s are horrible people and I completely understand why the Grinch wants to steal their Christmas. The feel of the film is really creepy and the camera angles are very odd.

The animated Benedict Cumberbatch one is beautiful and now one of my favourites.
“From the place where you come from, far beyond what you see, is a town like your town if your town was a dream”. From that opening I’m transported to a magical place!

Itsmemaggie · 22/12/2021 22:11

The cartoon or the Jim Carey one? I love the former and hate the latter.

EbonanzaScrooge · 22/12/2021 22:12

I love the grinch. The only bit that breaks is my heart is when I realised how he ended up with Max. He loves there alone and only has the trash shoot from Whosville for company 😩

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 22/12/2021 22:13

The animated one is absolutely fantastic!! Our favourite family film.. Watched it every day from Christmas until February last year!! Kept the tree up til Feb also! Proper funny bits in you may have missed first time around !

IWantMoreStationery · 22/12/2021 22:18

@DamnShesaSexyChick

The animated one is brilliant. I was made to watch it 3 times in July by Granddaughter and loved it.
Iamnotminterested · 22/12/2021 22:25

To clarify, it's the film with Jim Carrey that I don't like.

Squeezita · 22/12/2021 22:36

YANBU. I’ve never even seen it but know I’ll hate it.

I lump it in with Nightmare Before Christmas, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Coraline, etc

All best avoided.

WoodenReindeer · 22/12/2021 22:38

Animated one is amazing. I forgot how much I loved it until I watched it again this week!

Pedalpushers · 22/12/2021 22:40

Looking at YANBU posters: hate, hate, LOATHE ENTIRELY.

RocketPanda · 22/12/2021 22:40

A series of unfortunate events is fantastic. The series, not the movie

Squeezita · 22/12/2021 22:40

I also cannot stand Dr Seuss.

Snow1n · 22/12/2021 22:41

I like the recent animated one, I generally dislike Jim Carey anyway and especially in his version of the grinch. The new one though is great!

Policyschmolicy · 22/12/2021 22:42

As a film, it’s fairly tedious, but the kids like it. As a book it’s wonderful.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 22/12/2021 23:17

JC one has some amazing one liners though. It can't compare!
