To ask what weird viruses you’ve had lately that didn’t turn out to be Covid?

Or anyone you know?

Nearly everyone I know (myself included) has been ill on and off lately. Firstly it was a strange upset stomach and just recently, I had a bout of pretty bad dizziness for a few hours where I could barely walk… followed by a day or two of feeling wiped out/shaky (especially when hungry) and weird blocked feeling in my ears. Completely gone after a few days!

All have resulted in negative tests and most of my friends have been ill on and off recently.

i had awful indigestion/stomach/chest pain for about a week, which i put down to being side effects of my booster.

Then i came down with a horrible cold (PCR negative) thats had me with sinus pain, sore inner nose like i'd been snorted water out my nose, dizzyness and palpitations, but no temperature. quite bizarre.

I wonder if your dizzy spell was a migraine though, they don't always present with head pain, the wiped out/hungover feeling for 24-48hrs after is quite common (post-drome phase)

Confrontayshunme · 22/12/2021 19:11

I work in a school and feel awful as I have got every virus running since May last year. No covid. I have had more sick days in 2020 than my entire career combined. Terrible tummy bug in October and the two worst colds I have had in years. And probably not the flu as I am immunised. I think my immune system is really out of whack after having covid as I have had weird allergic reactions and insane hayfever requiring hospitalisation too.

ComDummings · 22/12/2021 19:13

I had covid and it was like a bad cold. 3 weeks later I came down with a slightly worse cold that isn’t covid. One of my friends has noro at the moment. Loads of viruses doing the rounds which is just joyful.

dancinfeet · 22/12/2021 19:50

My friend and two of my students all had the blocked ears and feeling dizzy / faint bug last week

MelonTits · 22/12/2021 19:53

I’ve been ill since around mid-October with variations of a runny nose, sore throat and cough, and headache. Symptoms come and go and I’ve had two negative PCR tests (when the cough started, then got worse) and countless LFTs.

unluckyinlife · 22/12/2021 20:00

I have been ill since November with various illnesses! My DH and DC have too!

Started off with a week of feeling week and headaches. Then a sore throat and cold. Then a cough and the worse shivers ever. Then a sore throat and consistent cough with temp. With a slightly sensitive tummy throughout. Thought I was over it but I've had a sore throat for 3 days now!!! Tested with a PCR countless times but none have been Covid!

mumda · 22/12/2021 20:26

A large percentage of the people I know who've had their booster have dizziness as a side effect.

mumda · 22/12/2021 20:26

The Zoe app asks four questions about digestive issues. There's swine flu going round.

BettyOBarley · 22/12/2021 20:27

Me and the kids have had one that has just gone on & on.. just a cold virus / cough that we couldn't get rid of but mine has now turned into an ear infection which I can't get rid of - I've been ill the whole of December.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 22/12/2021 20:30

Friday I started with cold symptoms. Saturday I stayed in bed as I felt awful. Sinuses bunged up, headache and whole body aches. Sunday was the same. Monday a bit better but chest hurt. Only today am I feeling more human but on second day of upset stomach joining in. I have LFTd daily and PCR tested Monday all negative. My usual start to the Christmas break as I always get something but this was worse than usual in how bad I felt.

ihatethecold · 22/12/2021 20:30

Had a horrendous norovirus type illness for nearly a week in September.
Mid November I got a very heavy cold. 5 weeks on and I developed pneumonia and have inflamed lungs.
It’s not Covid. 3 negative PCRtests.
Dr and hospital have been amazing.
I’m on antibiotics and steroids and had a chest X-ray yesterday.
The gp said she is seeing some awful lingering viruses.

Tryagainplease · 22/12/2021 20:31

I’m sorry to hear you’ve all been unwell but it is slightly comforting as I’ve never had the weird dizziness thing before! Still feel like I am swaying a bit when I stand and have a mild, sort of background tension headache for a while.

Weirdly, my appetite has been huge though!

In our house we seem to have had one bug after another since October. It's been relentless!

It hasn't once been covid but we've had tummy upsets, the 'supercold' that lasted for 3 weeks as well as so many other coughs and colds and sore throats.

Feel like I'm forever buying calpol and lemsip!

We'd had about a week free from illness until today when my ds starts coughing and complaining of a sore throat again!

Catflapkitkat · 22/12/2021 22:24

Headache, hacking cough & loss of voice for about three weeks. Had PCR test. 7 lateral flows. All negative, finally on the wain.

midlifecrash · 22/12/2021 22:28

I had the dizzy ear fatigue thing! I’m just getting over it. Horrible because I hadn’t a cough or anything but was just useless at work, couldn’t concentrate properly on anything

FangsForTheMemory · 22/12/2021 22:31

I had something early last year that gave me aching legs, abdominal pains, diarrhoea, a headache and a temperature. I have no idea whether it was COVID or not because there were no tests available at the time.

Chocolatewheatos · 22/12/2021 22:32

That's weird, I've been dizzy today, kept falling over in the bath, DH had to help me out. I've had a sore throat (which I transfered to my nose doing a bloody test) and D&V in the past 2 years, nothing else, loving it!

midlifecrash · 22/12/2021 22:56

All my LFTs were negative and now I’ve run out

Nowayoutonlydown · 22/12/2021 23:48

After not being ill for a few years I got a cold several weeks ago wiped.me.the.fuck.out
I was convinced it must be covid. Definitely wasn't!

I couldn't fathom why it had affected me so badly. I'd had the flu jab a month before, so not the flu, but just as bad as I remember thd flu being

Ponoka7 · 23/12/2021 07:58

My granddaughter, 4 started with what seemed like an ear infection. She was generally unwell and exhausted. She ended up in hospital with suspected pneumonia. Her sibling, 7 was very ill, but nothing that could be pinpointed. I had to have antibiotics for a deep chest infection and her Mum had stomach issues, then a sinus infection.
My other DD (35) has needed antibiotics for what went to tonsillitis, but started off as viral for a couple of weeks before. My youngest, 23 has had a viral flu type illness. We had a couple of PCRs, done ourselves and so we could swap in hospital. I don't know anyone whose been fully well over the last month. But they did say that virus would hit hard this winter because of a lack of mixing last winter and spring.

Ponoka7 · 23/12/2021 08:00

I should have said that we all started as having viruses (went to GP) but ended up on antibiotics.

Mummadeze · 23/12/2021 08:02

Terrible cold in the Summer. Lost my taste for several weeks, terrible cough, sneezing, sore throat etc. Wasn’t Covid. I now have Covid and can barely feel it.

Mammma91 · 23/12/2021 08:03

I had a rotten cold and a really nasty cough. I ended up on antibiotics for a suspected chest infection. It was horrible. I was absolutely convinced i had covid - 100%! But 2 PCR’s 4 lateral flows all negative. I had never had a cold like it before - the headache, chest pain, cough, no taste. It was bizzare. I was so convinced it was covid I isolated anyway - covid or not i didn’t want anybody to end up with what I had!

ihatethecold · 23/12/2021 08:37

5 weeks on and im barely leaving the house. So fed up of it all. Finished antibiotics on wed. finish steroids on xmas eve. I actually feel like I could do with being on a nebuliser for little while. I dont have one!

My peak flow has improved but i'm so short of breath.

MamaBearThius · 23/12/2021 08:46

My 18 month old DD and I both have Scarlet Fever Xmas Sad it's about as fun as it sounds
