BA missing luggage - All Santa presents gone ..absolutely gutted!

Just that, took a flight on Saturday 18th from Heathrow to Dublin, checked in 4 bags, with clothes, toiletries etc but mostly all the Santa presents only to be told by the pilot on landing that no bags had been loaded on the flight and to go online to BA.com and chase them up. No way to contact BA directly as won’t answer the phone, no email address and no sign of the luggage. 3 days to Christmas and not a single present to put in the kids stockings, am absolutely gutted. Logged the baggage as advises by the pilot but to no avail. Does anyone know of any way to get in touch with BA and actually try to track down missing baggage?🙏

Get on Twitter?

AtLeastPretendToCare · 22/12/2021 00:14

Have you tried Twitter?

Extragherkinsplease · 22/12/2021 00:14

Was it no bags for you, or no bags for anyone on your flight?

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/12/2021 00:15

Twitter is your friend

Pallisers · 22/12/2021 00:17

omg nightmare that all bags were lost.

Forget emailing and all that normal stuff.

Tweet BA about this. Put it on facebook. Call Joe Duffy or similar. Make it about BA spoiling Christmas/ruining santa.

Then go downtown dublin tomorrow and buy what you can.

Feel for you. We went home to Ireland for xmas one year and spread the presents carefully over 5 suitcases so everyone would have something if a suitcase was lost. The thought of losing all 5!

iwillinmyarse · 22/12/2021 00:19

None for the whole flight! No explanation , pilot said he only found out when we were landing, but I find it hard to believe that he didn’t notice the plane (full of passengers) wasn’t a bit lighter than it should have been on take off! Am not on Twitter (no idea how to use it) but sister has tried but no reaction as yet from BA. At my wits end.

It's really easy to set up a Twitter account. And come back here if you need advice on how to tweet

iwillinmyarse · 22/12/2021 00:24

Thanks, have already used that link to log the bags and track them but to no avail.
Am kicking myself because in previous years always sent them home in advance by a courier but with the whole Covid situation we just didn’t know if we would even be able to travel until we got our pcr’s done 48 hours in advance so didn’t want to risk sending them in advance and us then staying in London. Was also 1st Christmas in Ireland since 2019 so the kids were (still are) so excited.

Post to the BA forum on flyertalk.com. Not sure about BA, but many airlines have their PR people lurking on these boards, and in any case you'll get better advice and support than here. www.flyertalk.com/forum/british-airways-executive-club-446/

ItsDinah · 22/12/2021 00:32

There's been newspaper reports over the last few days about BA baggage chaos particularly at Heathrow. Covid. Have you reported to your insurers? I think BA has got 21 days before they become liable for any compensation for Lost luggage and it is pretty miserly. Compensation for delayed luggage is pretty rubbish too. Your insurance is likely to be quicker and better.

iwillinmyarse · 22/12/2021 00:33

Thank you will definitely try that, also trying to set up a twitter account but apparently my iPad is too old to support it (or maybe it’s just me who’s too old to understand it😳)

I am so sorry Flowers nothing constructive to add but I really hope they sort it for you

iwillinmyarse · 22/12/2021 01:01

Thanks a mill all, i’m Going to post on the flyer talk forum as suggested above. Am not staying somewhere which has many shops so limited to what I can buy at this stage. Also trying to limit contacts as staying with elderly parents and can’t risk exposing them to the dreaded Covid!
Aaaah..any other time I wouldn’t care, the lack of clothes doesnt bother me. , even quite nice not to have any suitcase to unpack 🥴😏

My son flew Heathrow to Dublin on Sunday night, waited 30 minutes at the baggage carousel before an announcement that the bags had not been loaded for about 150 passengers. They were advised to complete an online form, presumably the one linked earlier. The bags were reportedly put on a flight this morning and are in Dublin and will be delivered. He assumed he'd get his bag today but no sign of it. Have you been able to see updates to the status of your bag - his changed from something like 'we're looking for your bag' to 'we've found it' and the latest this afternoon was 'we're getting it ready to deliver'.

iwillinmyarse · 22/12/2021 01:09

Yes filled in the online forms and every day since have had an “update” which states that 2 were supposed to be on one flight on 19th and 2 on another, this has changed every day to a different flight/date but no confirmation that the bags have been found or on their way. So mine still at the stage of “looking for my bag”

Weedikins · 22/12/2021 01:17

That's not very reassuring. I'll update tomorrow if it actually arrives. Fingers crossed for you, and me cos my present is in his bag.

iwillinmyarse · 22/12/2021 01:20

Thank you so much🤞hopefully he will be lucky and the bag and you present will arrive .

Did you get on to Twitter? They are replying to tweets now.

TheHoptimist · 22/12/2021 01:29

There is a compensation rate that increases after a few days with and then your travel insurance. We had 2 sets and got 4000usd of stuff when BA lost ours for 6 days

Go onto the flyer talk BA forum and they will help you

iwillinmyarse · 22/12/2021 01:42

I’ve just posted on the flyer talk forum so hopefully will get some advice there. I couldn’t open twitter on my device (too old ! Both me and the device) will check again with sister tomorrow as she tried via twitter for me earlier today but hadn’t heard anything back)
Not sure what’s happening at Heathrow but I think there will be a lot of people in similar situation to me, many with kids too which is the worst part.

There's quite a lot of people complaining about it on Twitter and it's already reached sky news. Unfortunately from the statement from BA they are apologising and saying they are looking to sort asap but from the video posted on Twitter it doesn't look hopeful...

CantThinkOfaUserNameAgain · 22/12/2021 01:52

Same thing happened to my friends flight on Sunday to another EU country. Once again BA HEATHROW and not a single case loaded.

Luggage from that flight is reportedly now trickling in and some got it already - others still waiting. Seems to be the folk who filled the forms in at the airport are getting their bags quicker than those who filled in the online form.

givethatbabyaname · 22/12/2021 02:01

So sorry about this OP.

The fact the whole plane missed out is sort of reassuring. They’re not lost, they “just” weren’t loaded. So, they’ll be loaded onto future flights (probably depending on weight of those flights), and distributed over the coming days. Question is if they’ll arrive before 25th Sad

Keep at them. BA suck at the best of times, as airlines go. What a palaver.

iwillinmyarse · 22/12/2021 02:09

Thanks for the updates, the pilot on our flight specifically told us there was none who could help us at the airport and we had to report them on BA.com . I think the most annoying thing is this wasn’t a one off obviously, would have been helpfull if they had told us on check in that there may be a delay with the baggage and did we want to take anything important out. Also they took all our hand luggage as plane was full , would at least have had a few bits had we been able to hold onto it. Some people did manage to hold onto theirs and it was only taken at the door of the plane and somehow this luggage was placed in the hold and they were able to pick it up in Dublin.you’d think the lads who were chucking those few bits in would have noticed the rest of the hold was empty!!! 🧐 which makes me think BA were fully aware of what was happening but took the decision not to inform their paying passengers until they landed at their destination...pretty low!!!
