Honestly I was crying with laughter last night. I have covid and am a bit delirious, granted. And I do realise that the thread in general was in bad taste and that this will be deleted.

But 'ermagad, the quern' 🤣

This is going to end up a future "naice ham". As in "I'm a long-standing mumsnetter. Naice ham, Pom bears, ermagerd the Quern etc"

The opening post misspelled queen and immediately there were hilarious posts on quern - so then followed some posters speculating on the health of HM which attracted the ire of those saying it was in bad taste to discuss this, meanwhile querns were coming thick and fast.

The Querners were all in good taste and extremely funny!

Yes it totally is.

I often fondly spend an hour or two looking back on threads of old, from ten years ago or more. We were so much funnier, sharper and more carefree then. You could use real wit without fear of some po-faced git cutting you down for being 'insensitive'.

I am amazed at how different the vibe on MN is now. It's so much more uptight and MNHQ dance to the tune of the Professionally Offended.

So many threads in classics (or if not in classics then at least the threads that people remember for being properly hilarious) would not have made it past the report button today. MNHQ is so twitchy at the prospect of being accused of anything politically incorrect or insensitive. The fear of being cancelled is real.

Any thread that's started because the OP has a friend in the Met who has inside knowledge is fair game!
