Playdate

sharkyandme · 18/12/2021 07:54

I invited a friend over for a playdate on an afternoon. Preschool age.

I said after lunch and didn't give a time as I thought she'd use common sense and not bring them over after a day in nursery. I told her that this would be too late and I've not heard back from her.

I know she is very lax with schedules and relies heavily on her mum for childcare so maybe isn't aware of how toddlers get tired?

My kids are in bed at 7pm sharp but we have two young dc and not much family help.

I've not said anything unreasonable have I?

Did you agree a time and day or do they have to guess? If another person does childcare, who did you want to come? Child and mum or child with whoever?
All seems a bit vague

sharkyandme · 18/12/2021 08:02

I just said it was too late at that time after I said come over in the afternoon and I've had no reply.

What time did she want to come? It's not clear. If it was 3pm YABU, if it was 5pm YANBU

BendingSpoons · 18/12/2021 08:05

After lunch with toddlers to me means coming between 1 and 2! Without toddlers, up to 3pm seems like 'after lunch'. When did she want to come? Lesson learnt: give an exact time next time, something like 'if you come around 2 they will get a good play before I need to start dinner etc as they eat at 5'

northstars · 18/12/2021 08:06

You invited them over on an afternoon when you know the child will be in nursery, and the mum presumably working? Confused What did you expect her to do?

Whinge · 18/12/2021 08:06

I can't work out what time they wanted to come round. Was it 7pm? Or earlier? After nursery is pretty vague, it could be anything from midday to 6pm

sharkyandme · 18/12/2021 08:06

Yes I agree. I just thought it was obvious.

@northstars I didn't know her schedule. I thought she was home with the children.

Nothing is obvious from your posts.

arethereanyleftatall · 18/12/2021 08:08

You haven't said what time she wanted to come...

IgneousRock · 18/12/2021 08:08

What time did she want to come?

Whinge · 18/12/2021 08:08

@sharkyandme

Yes I agree. I just thought it was obvious.
You thought it was obvious. Confused

Clearly it's not as everyone on the thread is confused. Just say what time you'd like them to come round, as it avoids any confusion.

Peas252 · 18/12/2021 08:09

@sharkyandme

Yes I agree. I just thought it was obvious.
If your invite was as clear as your post, then its no wonder that the buckets went to the tell bed.
AFS1 · 18/12/2021 08:12

Can’t understand this post at all. Did she come back proposing a time or did she just turn up after nursery? If she proposed a time and you said it’s too late, why would you expect her to reply? She clearly can’t do any earlier in the day if she’s working.

smurfsss · 18/12/2021 08:14

What time did she come then?

Your post makes no sense.

We regularly have play dates at 3/4pm in the afternoon after a morning at nursery school. Sometimes I'll give children tea at 4.30pm if they're still with us.

I also have no childcare help.

Peanutmnm · 18/12/2021 08:19

What time OP??????? What time did she want to come?

MattHancocksSexTape · 18/12/2021 08:27

As Carly Simon almost sang…

You're so vague
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vague (you're so vague)
I bet you think this song is about you
Don't you don't you?

LittleBabyCheeses · 18/12/2021 08:29

What time did she want to come OP?

Pinotwoman82 · 18/12/2021 08:35

I would say after lunch is between 1.30 - 2.30? What time did she say?

DurhamDurham · 18/12/2021 08:38

You can certainly see where the confusion comes from Grin

If your texts are this vague there are bound to be misunderstandings

TooWicked · 18/12/2021 08:40

YABU.

Seafog · 18/12/2021 08:40

I'm so confused.
You said come over in the afternoon, she said ok, then the next bit is where you lose me.
Did she show up/ or say she was on her way , and you said then that it was too late? Or were you messaging beforehand, and told her that her suggested time would be too late?
Also, what time was it?

minipie · 18/12/2021 08:42

I think your OP must be missing a sentence.

Like “She wanted to come over at 5pm”

CasaBonita · 18/12/2021 08:48

I can't make head nor tail of your post......

TolkiensFallow · 18/12/2021 08:52

I’ve got no idea what time she was meant to come over. If your texts were this vague then no wonder it’s all gone wrong. It’s best to give people a time. If you don’t want to provide lunch just say so.
