My neighbor has 6 shopping carts in her garden

As the title says, my neighbor has 6 large shopping carts in her garden - the kind you use in the grocery store.

It looks awful and so untidy. I'm not sure what she actually does with them. Aibu to say something to her?

The name of the supermarket the trolleys belong to should be on the handle. Give the local supermarket a ring and tell them they have been stolen/ dumped in neighbouring garden. They should come and collect them .

Whammyyammy · 17/12/2021 19:03

Shopping carts? Grocery store? Are you in the U.S op?

malmi · 17/12/2021 19:04

Garden would be a vegetable patch in the US, I thought. I'm intrigued as to the choice of language here too!

What possible difference does it make where she lives? Hmm
MrsTerryPratchett · 17/12/2021 19:06

Call the shop. Those things are worth a mint.

Actually 'yard'.
Emerald5hamrock · 17/12/2021 19:08

Call the store or report to the council depending on the tenancy before approaching her.
Is it a new thing or is the garden full of crap?

Quick! Someone on another thread is saying "diaper" instead of "nappy." Go sneer at them!

Perhaps she is a hoarder- it's a serious mental health issue and , if she is, is likely to collect more. Or perhaps she is one of those people who just dumps stuff in their garden and couldn't give a shit about their surroundings.
What is she like to talk to?

WorraLiberty · 17/12/2021 19:10

If you're in the UK, just contact the company and they'll get them collected.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 17/12/2021 19:11

What are you going to say?

'Can l borrow one?'

malmi · 17/12/2021 19:12

What do you mean by 'actually yard'?

Must be, we say trolleys here!

Well it's a vegetable patch if it's a vegetable patch. Garden is actually yard in a lot of North America.
Blueberrycreampie · 17/12/2021 19:13

Oh and neighbour, not neighbor.

Wildrobin · 17/12/2021 19:15

Mumsnet isn’t exclusively British I hope?!

No idea about the shopping carts/ trolleys but yes I’d want to ring the supermarket and mention it and hope they’d have a word to ask her to stop taking them. Usually they have brakes on i thought so that they don’t work outside the store to prevent exactly this.

WeAreNotBowlingWithApples · 17/12/2021 19:16

You can report the trolleys to the shop they're from by calling customer services, or use the Trolleywise app.

Are they somewhere they can be collected easily or is your neighbour hoarding trolleys in a back garden?

frazzledfragglefromfragglerock · 17/12/2021 19:18

Use the TrolleyWise app, they'll just take them hopefully!

5keletor · 17/12/2021 19:18

We couldn't possibly comment OP, for you have deigned to use American words and spellings. 🙄 Call the cops police!

I'd contact the nearest branch of the store they belong to, as others have suggested, they should be able to collect them. It is a bit odd though!

tara66 · 17/12/2021 19:20

Those trolleys are expensive for the supermarkets I understand, that's why they are chained up. It's like stealing to take them.

dudsville · 17/12/2021 19:23

Aside from whether you're on this or the other side of the pond, my first thought was to go over and line them up so they look tidy. Can you do that? Would love a pic!

ShoesEverywhere · 17/12/2021 19:25

Is she in any pain/ elderly? My grandma often chose to lean on the trolley to help her get around the supermarket - perhaps she's using them as aids to get home and then unable to return them?

CarrotVan · 17/12/2021 19:39

I expect people are wondering if the OP is American because the advice might be different if she were. E.g Trolleywise might not exist in the US

CaseyTT · 17/12/2021 19:43

Ah I'd never heard of that app - thanks!

She seems quite normal otherwise and the rest of the garden actually looks fine. It's just these trolleys - it's so odd!!

I was trying to think of a reasonable explanation but I cannot come up with one!

I live in the UK but I wasn't born here... sorry if I used the wrong words or spellings. :(
