My neighbor has 6 shopping carts in her garden

As the title says, my neighbor has 6 large shopping carts in her garden - the kind you use in the grocery store.

It looks awful and so untidy. I'm not sure what she actually does with them. Aibu to say something to her?

ffs, all the concern of op's whereabouts Confused. Just call the supermarket/s concerned.

APerfectSky · 17/12/2021 19:45

@CarrotVan

I expect people are wondering if the OP is American because the advice might be different if she were. E.g Trolleywise might not exist in the US
You'd like to hope so, however the poster who posted "neighbour, not neighbor" suggests otherwise... I think people just like to feel like they are putting people in their place about terminology or spelling. Very strange.
iheartredsquirrels · 17/12/2021 19:46

@CaseyTT

Ah I'd never heard of that app - thanks!

She seems quite normal otherwise and the rest of the garden actually looks fine. It's just these trolleys - it's so odd!!

I was trying to think of a reasonable explanation but I cannot come up with one!

I live in the UK but I wasn't born here... sorry if I used the wrong words or spellings. :(

Don't worry about the spelling or words op, some people feel the need to pick on stuff like this. Possibly makes them feel superior for some reason, either that or they are pitas and not worth apologising to.

Sorry I still don't know what you mean exactly. If you mean that the US use garden and yard interchangeably, I don't think that's quite true. If you mean UK "garden" is US "yard", that's right, but OP said "garden", hence my interest. I still think the US mean a vegetable patch/bed or flowerbed when they say "garden". Not the whole "yard". Happy to be corrected by any American. Hope that's clear.

Blueberrycreampie · 17/12/2021 19:47

It doesn't help that online shopping companies often use the word cart, or shipping, and probably other Americanisms. Keep the English language going!

malmi · 17/12/2021 19:49

I am glad to read OP's update and happy to drop the side debate about gardens and yards and flowerbeds!!

CaseyTT · 17/12/2021 19:52

Thanks squirrels.

Is there something offensive or wrong with using these words or spellings in the UK? Sorry, no one has ever corrected me about this before so I am not sure.

Some posters are so rude. Fine to ask if the OP is UK or USA based, since it affects the advice given but it's not okay to criticise her spelling or choice of words.

5keletor · 17/12/2021 20:08

I hope it was obvious that my post was having a dig at the posters fixating on your spelling and not you, OP (hence the 🙄 at the end)!
We all know what you mean, there was no need to sidetrack your thread like that.

malmi · 17/12/2021 20:09

I didn't see anyone being rude or criticizing the use of language, just trying to clarify what country OP was in and debating what words are used where. Sorry if any of my messages appeared rude. I love languages and the way vocabulary differs between different areas.

janj2301 · 17/12/2021 20:12

load the trolleywise app, they use GPS when you take a photo, come and collect the trolley and take it back to the store

TaraSiligel · 17/12/2021 20:13

I actually wondered if the OP was in the Western Suburbs of Sydney. It seems almost compulsory there to wheel a shopping trolley home from the supermarket and just dump it at the front of your house.

Don't worry about it op, DH and I are not from the UK and when learning English as a second language we were both taught American English (from different countries). Some people can be so uptight about the word sidewalk or elevator. They should try learning to be fluent in a new language before judging.
LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 17/12/2021 20:15

There's an app for reporting trollies?!

Triphazards · 17/12/2021 20:16

@Whammyyammy

Shopping carts? Grocery store? Are you in the U.S op?
It's not called a garden in America.

It's the "lone prairee."

Franklyfrost · 17/12/2021 20:17

Add a new trolley once a week. She’ll get rid of all of them once they start piling up.

lilmishap · 17/12/2021 20:17

Greedy cow. Steal 5 and redistribute them through the neighbourhood.

Absolutely not, its just some MN posters like to passive aggressively suggest you're not "one of us" if you don't follow unspoken spelling and grammar rules Hmm

Ignore the twats.

Mum2jenny · 17/12/2021 20:25

Not really your problem what your neighbour choses to keep in her garden.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/12/2021 20:37

People near me seems to think it’s normal to have your own trolley in the front garden.

Nothing wrong with your language op. Just a strong anti American sentiment/xenophobia on this site and lots of ‘oh god not another American word/holiday/behaviour creeping into our country’ Pearl-clutching.

I know right! Grin this actually makes me happy. There's loads on one estate I visit and it properly winds me up.
WonderfulYou · 17/12/2021 22:14

If she’s an otherwise good neighbour then I’d just leave her to it.
Why create a problem that’s not affecting you.

A580Hojas · 17/12/2021 22:29

@Blueberrycreampie

Oh and neighbour, not neighbor.
You clearly live in Royston Vasey. Most of us understand without too much difficulty that Mumsnet is a site visited by people from many different countries around the world.
