We are a small office of around 15 and have just had a covid outbreak. There are only 4 of us who haven't caught it, including a girl who is 6 months pregnant.

She was asked if she was going to have a vaccine and she said no, as she doesn't know how it could affect babies development. This girl smokes.

Therefore her reasons are ridiculous.

I'm not a vaccine pusher but I just wonder how someone can be so worried about potential effects of a vaccine on her unborn baby, when she smokes a lot.

Not an anti smoking thread BTW. I'm just sick of her being sanctimonious and telling me I should research into the vaccine more!

It's non of your business

rosiemanchester · 16/12/2021 22:30

Yeah that arguement is ridiculous, smoking is so toxic to an unborn baby, yet she's worried about something that would actually benefit her health 😂😂😂 sometimes you just have to leave people to there own stupidity

5keletor · 16/12/2021 22:31

Smoking during pregnancy is awful, no two ways about it. Her vaccine status is her business though.

Pawprintpaper · 16/12/2021 22:34

I had a colleague who refused the vaccine in pregnancy until her obstetrician spelled out just how likely third trimester women were to end up in icu if they caught covid. She had the vac urgently near the end of pregnancy. I don’t understand the mentality that these things happen to other people but won’t happen to you.

Yabu.

It's pretty well known how smoking may affect a foetus. Maybe it's a level of risk she's comfortable with. Maybe she can't hear the reason because of the voice of addiction in her head.

The covid jab is a completely different matter. I don't blame her at all for not wanting it when pregnant.

Magspy · 16/12/2021 22:38

YABU.

If you really don't know why .

Lolabray · 16/12/2021 22:40

@Lifewith .., Be kind she’s only expressing her opinion

5keletor · 16/12/2021 22:40

Bear in mind that those of us who were pregnant when the vaccine was just being administered to NHS frontline staff were told, in no uncertain terms, to hold off from having it. Yes advice has changed now, but I've been told to not have it (pregnant), hold off for the time being (breastfeeding), then that it was okay to have while pregnant and/or breastfeeding. There is science behind it, and I did get vaccinated when told it was safe, but the change in advice and the fact the vaccine is pretty new is a bit daunting for some people.
I'm afraid I can't condone the smoking at all though.

She’s clearly as thick as they come if she’s smoking while pregnant, so don’t expect vaccine sense from her…

XmasSadface · 16/12/2021 22:44

Well done you for being a vaccinated non smoker OP!
🌟

Morechocmorechoc · 16/12/2021 22:48

If she is saying stuff about the vaccine to you and to research I hope you told her to research the impact of smoking. Poor little baby

Lifewith · 16/12/2021 22:52
@Lifewith .., Be kind she’s only expressing her opinion
Eh? How is my comment unkind?
I'm only expressing my opinion. It is non of her business and really bitchy to qrote it on mumsnet instead of saying it to her face.
So don't patronise me

MousesBack · 16/12/2021 22:54

Sorry, do you how problematic covid can be to a pregnancy? If smoking is so awful why isn't failing to protecting your pregnancy / baby / maternal health with an injection equally bad.
Lifewith · 16/12/2021 22:54

@chocolatequiltedshitpig just tell her if you disagree with her. Smoking is bad when pregnant, just tell her. Still non of your business though

Squeezita · 16/12/2021 22:56

@Lifewith did you smoke during pregnancy too? Disgusting and shameful behaviour.

TheHungriestMama · 16/12/2021 22:57

Smoking is a known risk and imo the only stupid argument is thinking it's ok to smoke while pregnant...

The covid one is different, I wouldn't have it while pregnant until there's around 5 years worth of research specifically about the covid vaccine and longer term effects.

ChocolateQuiltedShitpig · 16/12/2021 22:58

@XmasSadface did I say I didn't smoke? Or that I was vaccinated?

We had an open discussion about vaccines, she starts the conversations regularly.

OP posts:
lubuloossa · 16/12/2021 22:58

If she's only 6 months pregnant she must be very young to have not been eligible for the vaccine before getting pregnant.

Maybe she doesn't want it at all but is just using pregnancy as an excuse. (Which is totally her prerogative). The smoking really is inexcusable though.

Lifewith · 16/12/2021 23:01
@Lifewith did you smoke during pregnancy too? Disgusting and shameful behaviour.
Eh? Wtf??? @Squeezita how did you jump to that conclusion???
Back off

Elfonthesofa · 16/12/2021 23:02

Well, if you want to be pedantic, the risks associated with smoking in pregnancy are scientifically proven. So it is known how it would affect the babies development.

We don't have that information on the Covid Vaccine yet. So technically, she is right about that.

Even if she is choosing to ignore the advice on smoking in pregnancy.

Lifewith · 16/12/2021 23:02

Don't ever call me shameful. You know nothing.
The OP needs to tell the woman. Just tell her. Not bitch behind her back.

Squeezita · 16/12/2021 23:10

Your defence of a 6 month pregnant woman smokimg is shameful, @Lifewith

Lifewith · 16/12/2021 23:14

I'm defending her ffs!!!!!
Jesus fing christ. Get back in your box.
@Squeezita saying I'm shameful is toxic and ridiculous and you're ridiculous. It's classic deflecting language
No more engagement thanks.

Lifewith · 16/12/2021 23:14

Sorry, should have said NOT defending her
