We are a small office of around 15 and have just had a covid outbreak. There are only 4 of us who haven't caught it, including a girl who is 6 months pregnant.

She was asked if she was going to have a vaccine and she said no, as she doesn't know how it could affect babies development. This girl smokes.

Therefore her reasons are ridiculous.

I'm not a vaccine pusher but I just wonder how someone can be so worried about potential effects of a vaccine on her unborn baby, when she smokes a lot.

Not an anti smoking thread BTW. I'm just sick of her being sanctimonious and telling me I should research into the vaccine more!

I mean... All mumsnet is about is "bitching" behind someone's back. From husband's to MILs to friends. Talking behind backs is the backbone of this site. Just saying.

OP, if she's smoking then yeah, YANU.

Thatsplentyjack · 16/12/2021 23:24

People who smoke while pregnant or around young children are disgusting, bit she is right, we don't know the effects of the jag on babies yet.

AwkwardPaws27 · 16/12/2021 23:30

I'm 16 weeks pregnant, double vaccinated and getting my booster tomorrow. I'm not worried about it; I'm more concerned about the virus.
I can't find any evidence of a risk from having the vaccine while pregnant. I can find evidence of risks of covid in pregnancy - an increased risk of preterm birth, still birth & pregnancy loss.

TheCatsHaveKilledTheGonks · 16/12/2021 23:32

Well. Clearly she's not very bright.

She is doing something which is proved to harm her baby.

And refusing to do something that very experienced and knowledgeable scientists hace recommended that she do to protect her baby.

Perhaps this is Darwinism in action. Poor child, though, to have been conceived by somebody who as an adult is incapable of evaluating evidence and basic risk statistics. I wonder what kind of parenting such an irrational and unintelligent person - who is apparently incapable of making the decisions that responsible adults need to make as parents, even in cases where the conclusions on a risk basis are so blindingly obvious - will provide her child with a happy and safe upbringing. Sad

Yes I guess so. I mean if they were having a conversation about it anyway , why would you not say anything? That's what's odd.
changingstages · 16/12/2021 23:41

She sounds pretty dim. But then so are loads of people.

IAmMeThisIsI · 16/12/2021 23:41

@Lifewith. Yeah but it would be super bitchy to turn around and say to her "omg but you smoke. WTF are you on about?" Lol. Maybe it's a bit better to anonymously come on here and have a quiet moan about it. What she doesn't know won't hurt her, right?

AwkwardPaws27 · 17/12/2021 00:03

@TheHungriestMama

Smoking is a known risk and imo the only stupid argument is thinking it's ok to smoke while pregnant...

The covid one is different, I wouldn't have it while pregnant until there's around 5 years worth of research specifically about the covid vaccine and longer term effects.

What about the risks of covid though? Genuine question - my booster is booked for tomorrow and I'm pregnant. At the moment I know covid is linked to higher rates of preterm birth, still birth and pregnancy loss. What are the effects of the vaccine that I should be weighing up against this?
WhoopsWhatsMyNameAgain · 17/12/2021 00:07

I didn't want it in pregnancy so I get why she feels uneasy. I've had my booster now so very provaccine but it feels different when pregnant, albeit I acknowledge it seems to be safer to have it than not. I'm still not sure if I'd have it if pregnant.

Her smoking is a different issue that is awful but unrelated.

She addicted to smoking so feels she can't stop. Whereas she's in control of whether she has the vaccine.

Megan2018 · 17/12/2021 00:16

Smokers who are pregnant or have children are appalling people. It will be no loss to the world if they get taken out by Covid. We don’t need that kind of stupid in the gene pool.

IAmMeThisIsI · 17/12/2021 00:27

@Megan2018 lmao. These are the thoughts I usually keep to myself. 😂

Only on mumsnet do people defend a smoking pregnant person!
