To say DH is in a toxic relationship

So DH is always going to TK MAXX. Everything he buys is damaged in some way. He either discovers it when he gets home or after wearing for a while.

They lure him in with their promises of a bargain - I have told him they are damaged 2nds but he doesn't believe me! - he picks lovely stuff and then is disappointed when it gets mash up. He takes great care of his belongings so usually his clothes last years.

Anyway in recent months he has returned a belt that’s tongue bit fell of - he exchanged for another and the same thing happened- and but mostly he feels like he can’t take it back as he has worn it even though it’s within the 28 days or whatever.

Anyway right now he has a top with a broken zip, trainers that one foot cuts into the back of his foot and I’m expecting the leg on his jeans to fall off any day day.

I thought I’d persuaded him to take it back but then he decided that it all balances up in the end because of all their bargains! WTF??

This is the tip of the iceberg but he just keeps going back for more. AIBU to say it’s toxic and he should really start shopping somewhere that don’t sell clothes that fall apart?

I have bought things from there which have been perfectly alright

OneRuleForThem · 16/12/2021 14:38

I thought tk max had gone out of business years ago?

girlmom21 · 16/12/2021 14:48

TK Maxx sell out of season items, not trousers where one legs going to fall out but ok

SoupDragon · 16/12/2021 14:51

I have told him they are damaged 2nds

They aren't. As a PP said, they are end of or last season/gone out of business stock.

unfortunateevents · 16/12/2021 15:03

That isn't how TK Maxx operates, their goods are end of line or last season - not faulty! I think the problem lies with your DH.

TeaMeBasil · 16/12/2021 15:07

I think he's just not picking his items well, or checking them over properly.

Everything I've had from TKmaxx has been great

Excited101 · 16/12/2021 15:11

I shop at TKmaxx A LOT and I don’t have this problem, he needs to choose his shopping more carefully.

Roussette · 16/12/2021 15:12

I buy lots in there and have done for a very long time.

In all this time, the only thing I had a problem with was so bluetooth earbuds. They replaced them full refund .

I have got some real bargains. A class little black dress that was originally £346... down down down to a sale price of £12 !
Every time I wear it, I get compliments.

My DH bought a fantastic jacket in there... italian designer, again... peanuts, and compliments when he wears it

Love their body lotions, soaps and candles too.

What's not to like

TempName01 · 16/12/2021 15:12

The goods on the whole are not faulty but they sometimes have a rail or area for damaged items where they heavily discount, so your DH must be getting all the stuff off there

Roussette · 16/12/2021 15:14

I am laughing at you calling TK Maxx 'toxic' !!!

PinkWaferBiscuit · 16/12/2021 15:15

@unfortunateevents

Agreed. If almost everything he has brought from there has broken or become damaged it suggests the problem is how careful your DH is with his clothes. The clothes are not damaged or defective they are just out of season so no more or less prone to breaking than items he purchases anywhere else.
ItsDinah · 16/12/2021 15:15

Never had a problem with anything from TK Maxx. Does your husband need his eyes tested?

gunnersgold · 16/12/2021 15:19

How odd , they stuff isn't seconds . It's often just end of line stuff that didn't sell . Maybe he isn't very good at looking after stuff ?

luckylavender · 16/12/2021 15:22

I've never had a problem. They're just discontinued items.

PearlclutchersInc · 16/12/2021 15:26

In my experience I find you have to look closely at TK Maxx, some of their stuff is crap. End of range for sure and some stuff looks likes its been booted about the warehouse.

TheOldRazzleDazzle · 16/12/2021 15:26

I’m not a particular fan of TK Maxx as I don’t enjoy shopping enough to have the patience to rummage through acres of ugly or weird jeans or jumpers for the one thing I might like. But anything I’ve bought there has lasted at least as long as I’d have expected it to.

inferiorCatSlave · 16/12/2021 15:32

We didn't ever have a problem till last visit in summer and a final third look before buying when showing of to rest of the shopping party and we found loads of problems - eneded up getting nothing.

It was very odd but haven't been back since.

FrankGrillosWrist · 16/12/2021 15:32

On par with Primark, row upon row of old tat.

DespairingHomeowner · 16/12/2021 15:34

I disagree - some clothing/accesory items I have bought there (esp handbags) have fallen apart so I have stopped buying those & suspect they are seconds OR returned items being resold

homeware etc seems to be less problematic

meanwhile, your husband should look at the items more carefully, give seams a bit of a tug etc

icedcoffees · 16/12/2021 15:38

I have told him they are damaged 2nds but he doesn't believe me

Well, because they're not. They're mostly old lines from previous seasons that haven't sold for some reason, though some companies purposefully make lines to sell at a discount in places like that.

I've bought loads of clothes from TKMaxx and I've never once had to return anything.

Twopenny · 16/12/2021 15:41

As others have said, TKMaxx isn't an outlet for damaged stuff. I think some of it gets damaged, as people seem to violently rummage around the shop like squirrels looking for nuts, but it didn't come in that way.

I love TKMaxx - so much more variety than most places, and decent prices. Have had loads of good quality stuff from there, and none of it's fallen apart on me.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/12/2021 15:44

There is a list somewhere of brand names that TK Max use that are their own brands, but made to look as if they some kind of 'designer'. This annoys me unreasonably, and I also don't like rummaging through stuff, cos I am impatient. I do however still have two silk shirts I bought in the 90's that no longer fit, and I refused to get rid of them as I want to will slim into them at some point between now and death Xmas Grin

TheCatterall · 16/12/2021 15:45

Let’s lay the blame where it needs to be placed.

Your husband is an idiot. He’s a grown man that can’t learn from his mistakes and seems incapable of throughly checking what he’s spending his money on. He doesn’t need a wife - it’s a mummy to look after him and make excuses for his poor decision making skills and blame it all on a second party. Hmm

Cas112 · 16/12/2021 15:47

Everything I have ever bought from TK maxx has been fine and they sell out of season products not second hand

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 16/12/2021 15:48

You are wrong because they aren't damaged seconds.

He might go hunting through for cheap damaged goods and then ask for a discount, but that's not the premise of the store.

The quality is pretty standard in TKMaxx!
