To say DH is in a toxic relationship

So DH is always going to TK MAXX. Everything he buys is damaged in some way. He either discovers it when he gets home or after wearing for a while.

They lure him in with their promises of a bargain - I have told him they are damaged 2nds but he doesn't believe me! - he picks lovely stuff and then is disappointed when it gets mash up. He takes great care of his belongings so usually his clothes last years.

Anyway in recent months he has returned a belt that’s tongue bit fell of - he exchanged for another and the same thing happened- and but mostly he feels like he can’t take it back as he has worn it even though it’s within the 28 days or whatever.

Anyway right now he has a top with a broken zip, trainers that one foot cuts into the back of his foot and I’m expecting the leg on his jeans to fall off any day day.

I thought I’d persuaded him to take it back but then he decided that it all balances up in the end because of all their bargains! WTF??

This is the tip of the iceberg but he just keeps going back for more. AIBU to say it’s toxic and he should really start shopping somewhere that don’t sell clothes that fall apart?

I got two lovely Roxy t-shirts (very small size which was why they were there I imagine) had them years and years and still good. I think your OH had just been a bit unlucky.

It's not seconds or damaged stuff. It's last season stock or overstock. I've had marvellous stuff from there: Nicole Fahi, good plain Jaeger tops, decent cashmere, Italian linen dresses and so on. Once last summer there was a batch of Vivienne Westbrook coats, sadly all size 8. and some great Osprey handbags which I just missed out on. You just have to shop canny.
Where else would you buy really luxurious soap for couple of pounds, big bottles of savon de Marseille for a fiver? Love TK Maxx. Maybe a tiny bit snobby OP?

@OneRuleForThem

I thought tk max had gone out of business years ago?
Are you thinking of TJ Hughes?
RumJerrySailorRum · 16/12/2021 16:12

He's going straight to the clearance section isn't he and buying the damaged but adorable stickered stuff?

I'm a massive TK fan, but I like to go and have a good mooch round.

I've had loads of great bargains, none of which have broken or fallen apart.

Nousernameforme · 16/12/2021 16:43

@Roussette I have visions of your Dh being showered with peanuts confetti style whilst posing in his Italian designer jacket Grin

Roussette · 16/12/2021 16:57

@Nousernameforme

Not far off the truth Grin

CharlotteGoldenblattYork · 16/12/2021 16:58

They don't sell faulty clothes.

You sound like a snob

gogohm · 16/12/2021 16:59

A lot of the stuff is slight seconds I've found, lots of poor finishing etc

BitterTits · 16/12/2021 17:01

This is such a daft analogy. I take it it's meant to be tongue-in-cheek.

Butchyrestingface · 16/12/2021 17:05

@Roussette

I am laughing at you calling TK Maxx 'toxic' !!!
I'm not. I'm rolling my eyes at such a piss poor attempt at clickbait.
Butchyrestingface · 16/12/2021 17:07

Can someone settle this for me once and for all, when I pick up an item of clothes in TK Maxx that claims to have a full retail price of £699.99 but is being sold at TK's for £29.99 - is that a load of lying shite or totes on the level?

simonisnotme · 16/12/2021 17:07

your DH is at fault, however TKMax always seems like a charity shop/ jumble sale to me

Roussette · 16/12/2021 17:10

You have to spend time looking. Devote enough time to going through the racks and you find bargains.
However, if you go in for 10 minutes and expect the bargain of the centrury, you'll be disappointed.

EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 16/12/2021 17:12

“Toxic”? Hmm

I don’t get it. Is your choice of words an attempt at humour?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/12/2021 17:14

I have this issue with TU at Sainsburys and everyone else seems to love their clothes

JabNotInArm · 16/12/2021 17:18

I work for a retailer who sells good on to TK Maxx. They're absolutely not all seconds or damaged. We just sell on excess stock either because we don't want to pay to store it anymore or because we haven't been able to sell through it at close to cost price. There's nothing given to TK Maxx we wouldn't sell in our (high end High Street) stores ourselves and the quality control before being sold, and by TK Maxx on receipt, is top notch. Your DH is probably buying super cheap stuff that was either poor quality to begin with or has been hanging around on the shop floor kn TK Maxx for yonks and is damaged when he buys it!

gofigureit · 16/12/2021 20:39

Tkmax is a roulette of total shite and amazing gems....you have to go in there with your head screwed on!

AlphabetStew · 16/12/2021 21:31

I went into TK Maxx looking to buy one of their gorgeous music boxes that have soap in them. But they didn't have any Xmas Sad
