@Plantsandpuddlesuits

A little plate to put used teabags on.....

Don't understand why anyone would even want this doesn't everyone put them in the bin straight away?

Why would I want cold soggy teabags on display on my worktop wtf?!

I’m completely with you there, WTF is that all about. My in-laws help themselves to several cups of tea an hour while they’re at my house and they always enquire as you where the saucer thing is. I tell them to just chuck them in the bin. They insist on keeping them in an empty cup on the side- they don’t reuse them though so I have no idea why.

Empty bottle, no oil or reeds just the empty bottle

Fuckedoffisanunderstatement · 13/12/2021 19:15

Hand cream

Justonemoretouch · 13/12/2021 19:17

A Badidas bathtime hand held bum scrubber to whittle away those inches, from DH (now ex) after the birth of my first baby.

My mum carried on doing stockings for us, even when we were teenagers - mostly little stuff like bath cubes (remember them?) and chocolate, but there would be one bigger thing in there.

One year, the bigger present in my stocking was yarn and knitting needles so I could knit my dad a scarf! It felt like she’d given me a job and my dad a present. I usually didn’t dare speak up to mum, but this time, I did. I to.d her I was upset because this felt like a present for dad, not me, and her response was to guilt trip me into keeping it, and knitting the scarf for dad -“But you enjoy knitting, and dad would love to have something you’ve knitted for him - but if you aren’t happy, I guess I could give you the money, and I’ll knit the scarf for dad”.

FIL is the Prince of odd presents - not nasty, like some on here - he really does try to get things he thinks we will like. But apparently he thought dh would like a book about the Toilets of Cornwall, and ds3, then aged about 8, would like a book on Cornish cheeses, one of Cornish cat cartoons, and a book on the History of the Cornish Pasty. What every 8 year old wants!

A very old, very dear friend of mine is second to none in the crap gift stakes. She's very thrifty, borderline tight, and my birthday is nine days after hers so for many years I would get her birthday reject gifts. Ornamental Pierrot dolls. Packs of leftover paper napkins. A DVD of a film I've seen and don't particularly like anyway. I've tried shaming her into nicer gifts by spending quite a lot of money on hers. Nope. I actually said 'let's not bother, the postage is so expensive' but we've both just had a big birthday for which I sent her a huge and expensive bouquet of flowers. In return I got a four-pack of 10 gram tins of fancy teas (rum flavoured, vanilla flavoured, plain, and spice I think). I've given up.

Maybe they re-use teabags, to be frugal? I can’t imagine the hiketo the bin in their kitchen is that great!

My husbands best friend (woman) gives me shit gifts. She has given me a range over the years but I think the worst was that when she bought me musical flashing Christmas earrings….. I might not have minded but we had spent a fortune on hers and I was mortified. My husband always defends her saying she may not know what to get me as she doesn’t know me very well but that particular year he was gobsmacked at how shit her gift to me was. He was standing there with a present of about €100 Sha had bought ‘him not us’ and she was standing there with €150 of a gift for the two of them and I was standing there with Father Christmas earrings beeping ‘jingle bells’ from Claire’s Accessories.

A ladyshave and a teapot from my boyfriend for my 21st. I was truly gutted 😭

Do you specifically put these and nothing else on your compost heap? I’m interested because all our food waste goes in a food compost bin but for some reason the teabags are kept separate. Also, most t bags actually contain plastic, I know the ones my pil buy do so it seems odd to keep them for composting.
MMDSH · 13/12/2021 19:25

A cheap deep fat fryer from my Brother and SiL. Gave it away for free after. Brother has an annoying habit of asking what we want for Christmas and then buying something I never asked for nor want or need. We were on diet because of fertility treatment ffs.

FunkyPhantom · 13/12/2021 19:27

Why didn't I ask Santa for a hat and spurs to turn my jacket potatoes into cowboys ??

Can't find them anywhere on the t'interweb 😆😆😆

Herewearestar · 13/12/2021 19:27

Blackhead remover strips for the nose.

I had discussed this being 99p at Poundland with the gift giving friend, 2 weeks before….

@InPraiseOfBacchus

"He stated that he'd deliberately mocked my choice to the jeweller and they joined together to choose me a "sensible" and "grown-up" box. I still have it and it still angers me."

@AMerryNickelChristmas I'm so glad to hear he's an ex!!! Burn the damn thing (or ebay it) and get yourself a music box! BTW I'm 32 and I think old fashioned musical jewellery boxes are a delight.

He was a total twat.

I'm well rid of him.
He was always doing crap like that.

@fourandnomore

Oh I’ve remembered another one. My friend regifted back to me the present I’d given her 6 months earlier, except only part of the gift. It was the ‘extra’ little something i had added to the main gift. We were only about 16 but I did feel a bit hurt.
I once got the gift box my aunt’s present from me had been in the previous year, as my actual present.
Teaandcakeordeath83 · 13/12/2021 19:38

Nine years old. A VHS of indecent proposal of my crazy aunty. Needless to say it got whisked away pretty quickly by my very straight laced grandma. 😂

muddyford · 13/12/2021 19:38

Miniature windchimes from close family member. After I had spent hours in the shops tracking down specific gifts he had requested for his family, I opened a present about the size of an After Eight box containing them. Must have been cheap on Christmas Eve in his local garden centre.

Schooldilemma2345 · 13/12/2021 19:39

My other SIL gave me shockers 3 years in a row.

First year was a little crusifix necklace from H Samuel, it was minute and hideous. I’m not remotely religious and she knew this, she had also spent all of Christmas Eve telling me how excited she about my present and how she wished someone would give her something so gorgeous.

The next year she gave me a pencil case/make up bag type thing made from neon pink fake fur in the shape of a poodle. I honestly wouldn’t have given to a 12 year old girl who obsessively collects poodle themed things. It was utterly hideous but perfect for me because‘I love pink’ apparently- I hate pink!

Then I got a drawstring cotton carrier bag holder with westies printed on it and a 1/3 bottle of blossom hill white Zinfandel. These were regifted to me after she received them for her birthday in Dec. I know this because she has a Westie and the wine had a label with her name on it!

TheWitchOfShields · 13/12/2021 19:42

A car battery charger with jump leads for my 30th - I'd literally just bought a new battery for my car. Said charger is still under the stairs, in the original box, never opened - from my parents.
I also don't dare mention I/DH/DS likes anything - growing up I loved a certain Disney characher and Christmas morning I got EVERYTHING in that character - mugs, alarm clock, framed pics, games, soft toys, clothes, PJs. The money she'd spent on all the junk, I wished she'd bought me one decent present. I have to tell them not to buy crap for DC just because it's a certain character/franchise etc

Got a guitar, but wasn't allowed to play it or learn to play it as couldn't afford lessons

Every year, my birthday rocks up and the same line 'I've not got you anything yet, is there anything you want?'. I now just say 'no thanks, don't bother'. My birthday has been the same day for 30 odd years, there is NO excuse to 'not get you anything yet' (these same people complain if the same were to be done to them)

LKC8191 · 13/12/2021 19:46

A huge replica ‘Heart of the Ocean’ pendant, a fake-gems copy of the one from Titanic, from my Great Aunt who had a QVC addiction at the time….

Theunamedcat · 13/12/2021 19:47

@softblueface

I think my DS’s worst gift so far was last year on his 4th birthday. DH’s dad bought him an apple peeler, one of those ones you stick the apple on and rotate the handle and the peel comes off in spirals. It was from Lakeland but DS is about 20 odd years away from appreciating that fact! Grin
Literally what my ds has asked santa for this year he is 8 and loves apples
Diva66 · 13/12/2021 19:50

The in laws have given me a half eaten wedge of cheese, a tin of out of date shortbread that had been opened and some biscuits for cheese in a Sainsburys carrier bag. Nowadays they give me nothing and I’m happy with that.

I drank too much Saturday night & have a dancing llama on it’s way from Amazon…no idea who I was thinking of giving it to!!
