AIBU wasting money on teacher gift

mumof2exhausted · 09/12/2021 17:42

We have all contributed money to buy teachers vouchers for Christmas , rather than them getting lots individual present (ie best teacher mum, body shop crap). Person who volunteered to go grab the vouchers has spent a third of the money on bloody body shop stuff. So rather than having a lovely £100 voucher each the teachers now have £60 and body shop stuff. I know people will say “well she volunteered” . A few of us volunteered. Literally to go to the shopping centre to get generic voucher which can be used in any shop. Am I (and others) being unreasonable to be annoyed?

Does the person who bought it also sell body shop?

BabarEnFamille · 09/12/2021 17:45

Does the volunteer sell Body Shop by any chance?Hmm

thefourgp · 09/12/2021 17:45

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was body shop stuff she already had and thought she’d get money back for. Yanbu but I wouldn’t say anything. Just don’t give her money again.

CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 09/12/2021 17:45

Just do your own thing next year. Its not working all the hassle. Someone blatantly works for Bodyshop

Pegasussnail · 09/12/2021 17:46

She probably get a huge discount for them

MerryMarigold · 09/12/2021 17:46

@Winterfellismyhome

Does the person who bought it also sell body shop?
Good point!! Yes, I would be annoyed. If it was supposed to be for a voucher, she shouldn't spend nearly half on something else without those contributing knowing about it.
StrangerThanSpring · 09/12/2021 17:46

That was really shitty of them. I would be annoyed to.

I also bet they are a Body Shop MLM seller.

At least you know not to trust them ever again.

ItsDinah · 09/12/2021 17:48

So the person who volunteered is a Body Shop MLM bot?

CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 09/12/2021 17:49

I mean the body shop sell nice stuff but it's not amazing is it. And it's not what you all agreed to get

danishkids · 09/12/2021 17:50

I Would ask her to return the body shop stuff, she must have a receipt! She can’t use other people’s money, other than the way agrees!

WindyWindsor · 09/12/2021 17:53

Am I the only one just finding out Body Shop is a MLM??? Why are they doing that shit when they have a whole host of stores open.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 09/12/2021 18:00

What’s MLM?

mumof2exhausted · 09/12/2021 18:02

Oh my god I didn’t even think that she might be a body shop rep! My boy is only in reception and I don’t really know this mum that well. It’s just so annoying as the WhatsApp thread literally went along the lines of “yes I’m happy to contribute to a voucher from the class so they don’t get 30 smellies gift sets ha ha”.

OP posts:
elbea · 09/12/2021 18:03

Literally nobody wants crap from the body shop, even less so when it’s come from somebody scamming their peers.

Imanessexgirlgetmeoutofhere · 09/12/2021 18:06

My money is on her being a MLM hun.

I organise the teachers gift and usually get wine, chocolates, Xmas plant and then a voucher

hopeishere · 09/12/2021 18:07

We always got a card and voucher. But yes she probably sells Body Shop stuff!!

StrangerThanSpring · 09/12/2021 18:07

@OnceuponaRainbow18

What’s MLM?
Multi-level marketing

Body Shop at Home is an MLM. It's commission-based selling.
Like all MLMs the Reps can be sneaky to get their sales.

FizzyOrange · 09/12/2021 18:09

If you organise the collection for vouchers then you jolly well get them. YANBU

LaBellaTrix · 09/12/2021 18:09

I've got a Bodyshop MLM bot at work. She was raffling bags 'full' of bodyshop goodies for £4 each and I stupidly bought one. I got a facemask sachet and a lip balm sample. Yay, £4 well spent eh?

Bodyshop stuff isn't even particularly nice and it's bloody expensive.

FallonCarringtonWannabe · 09/12/2021 18:11

I was also going to ask if she was a bodyshop hun. If she is I would be fuming.

FairFuming · 09/12/2021 18:15

I also assumed she was a rep, she's probably taken commission on it

AbsolutelyFuckinFabulousDarlin · 09/12/2021 18:18

Rookie error @mumof2exhausted, just ignore any requests for a group present unless the gift idea is set in stone
You are welcome Grin

The gift idea was absolutely set in stone from what I'm reading. Confused
CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 09/12/2021 18:24

Can you say "sorry I'm confused is the bodyshop stuff extra stuff you've bought with your own money as I thought we'd agreed no toiletries etc"
