Does the second lateral flow test look positive?

Sorry I know this isn't AIBU but posting here for traffic.

DH tested positive via PCR on Friday. Did lateral flow on both DD's today. Top one is husbands positive lateral flow (did it more to check the lateral flow tests worked as been doing them for months and never had a positive result before). Checked both DD's lateral flows and they appeared negative. Just glanced now and it appears one of them is positive (the middle test)?? Did the test about an hour ago. Is the result invalid due to the length of time taking the test or do you think it's positive?

DD currently has no symptoms do you think I should do a PCR on her? She is extremely clinically vulnerable but it's an absolute nightmare getting her to take a test.

Thanks

That middle test is not positive in my opinion. It’s the dye gathering at the end of where the liquid travels to. We’ve had this happen loads of times and when they’re positive it is so obvious because they are in exactly the right place next to the T. Please try not to worry, test nasally only if you can for the PCR. It’s a very traumatic experience with children - mine keep count of how many they’ve had and it’s so sad. I hope you all manage to stay negative. Half of us did!

I work in a covid lab. The LFT/antigen will like a preg test show a false positive after 30 min. The evap line just keeps soaking so ignore after 30 min really you need to just check and bin.
PCR under 12 you can swab inside the rim of the nose, both nostrils if possible, sorry to be disgusting but the swab only needs to go as far as their finger would if they were picking their nose🤮
Good Luck hope all goes well for you

@boobood

The lateral flow that I did was a nose one, so much more manageable for DD although still took me nearly 3 hours of coaxing and in the end having to pretty much force the swab up her nose. Obviously it makes me feel terrible as a parent but I don't know what the alternative is. I have booked her a PCR so will obviously have to do my best with it tomorrow, but not sure how much of a sample I will be able to get (she is almost as big as me).
Try doing it when she is sleeping.

No it doesn't look positive, it's not a line like the top one, it just looks like the colour has run

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 05/12/2021 18:44

I'm sorry she finds it so traumatic.

Obviously bribery all the way, if there's anything she'll be bribed by!

As it's traumatic for her, do you need to know? Could you just isolate instead? Our school is very happy for the kids to do this instead if they're genuinely scared.

I'd just isolate for 10 days starting tomorrow (same as if she'd PCR today) & only test her if she gets symptoms (as you have to restart isolation time again).

Best of luck with DH not passing it on. I hope he's isolating from you all now!

When I took my dd for a PCR she was allowed to do her nose and under her tongue rather than the back of the throat. This was much easier for her and hopefully an op for your DD too

Don't read them after 30 mins! Do another.

The line looks to be in the wrong position compared with the top test...

Suzi888 · 05/12/2021 18:49

Looks positive to me.

mugglenutmeg · 05/12/2021 19:05

Yes that's positive, The line will get darker in days to come. I'd say your DC is a couple of days behind DH.

Hope you're all ok.

What was the outcome OP?

boobood · 12/12/2021 14:37

Hi outcome was that DD (the suss lateral flow I posted about) was positive. Myself and other DD have remained negative and have done daily lateral flows. Sorry did mean to update!

It doesn’t look positive to me. More like an evaporation line. If you’ve left in over 30 mins then it’s invalid anyway. I’d get her to do another if you have spare just to check, but that test doesn’t look positive.

Well looks like I should have looked at the dates and read the last post Grin

Looking at the pic again you can actually see a very faint line in the correct position. Hope you’re dd and DH are on the mend OP.
