What the hell is this noise?!

So at night time / early morning I sometimes hear what I can only describe as a noise that sounds like the sound you would get if you were to run your fingers over a few letters on your phone / iPad -like a high pitch clicking noise. Sometimes it's around 3/4 'clicks' that are always close together sometimes there Might a tiny pause and then another few clicks sound. But they always have the same fast rhythm.

It happens when we are all in bed, making no movements so it's not like we are walking around and it's making the floor shake at all.

Can any one help with any suggestions on what on earth it might be!

I've been hearing it now for a few months,

Can others hear it? Or are you the only one who's heard it? Just curious I think my eardrum does a weird vibrating thing sometimes that could be described like that!

Vapeyvapevape · 04/12/2021 23:28

It’s not a hidden Furbie with the batteries running low?

PlinkPlankPlunk · 04/12/2021 23:28

Do you have any plug in devices like spider repellents? They click quietly so you only hear them at night. I think some old wifi hubs click also

BingoandBluey · 04/12/2021 23:29

Deathwatch beetle

Palavah · 04/12/2021 23:29

Haa it started since you switched the heating on?

dancingmonkey · 04/12/2021 23:30

Yes my partner can also hear.

Have you got a low level ear infection?

itsmeagainagain · 04/12/2021 23:30

My boiler makes this noise

MiaFarrowsWheelbarrow · 04/12/2021 23:31

Central heating pipes warming up.

Lightstoobright · 04/12/2021 23:31

Water/heating pipes would be my guess

dancingmonkey · 04/12/2021 23:31

Possibly yes around that time, but the boiler is in other bedroom, and to me is sound like sound is in my bedroom /

Our radiators do that just before they're about to switch on.

This? m.youtube.com/watch?v=S9E5uWQraSw

dancingmonkey · 04/12/2021 23:37

Thanks all those suggesting it's the water/ pipes heating up. But mine aren't on a timer or anything and I switch them off at night and back on again in the morning so not sure it's that. Unless they could make that noise due to me switching them off also

It's a mouse

dancingmonkey · 04/12/2021 23:39

Ooo interesting, it is very similar! Especially the rhythm but mine is slightly more high pitched

Your neighbours heating coming on?

I kept hearing a noise and realised after a few days my neighbours had got one of those ring doorbells, you can hear it in my bedroom and the living room when the house is quiet.

Goneback2school · 04/12/2021 23:42

Wind in air vents? We've just moved house and have a very similar sound on windy nights.

penguinparty00 · 04/12/2021 23:42

Every night at 3 our tv on/off button flashes red rather than being constant red and after a while of it happening every night I looked into it and apparently the tv signal updates at that time - so you have a tv in your room could it be related to that?

Possibly.. our walls are fairly thin but it would mean they were putting heating on at odd times in the night

Don't actually think I have an air vent In my bedroom, unless it's well hidden!

We do have a tv yes, but don't think the noise happens and the same times each day

Could be their heating and it ticking on if drops below a certain temperature. Ours does. It makes a gast tick tick tick sound it's the pipes warning up
