Hello,

Sorry posting here for traffic I have a colonoscopy tomorrow and I've been drinking chicken broth but I think I've messed up, it says clear broth and the chicken broth is a yellow like dark yellow colour - have I messed it up? Should I cancel it tomorrow now?

Thanks

I think it is fine. I was told I could take chicken broth and colour wasn't specified.

Nordicmom · 03/12/2021 18:56

I’m no medical professional but I’ve had a colonoscopy and remember drinking broth until I only had to have water . I’m pretty sure it just means that’s it’s a liquid with no pieces of vegetables or meat in it . I did the awful medical drink that clears you out and it sure was efficient, I had a look at the camera footage before I asked for more sedation and it was very clean in there ! Good luck with your procedure!!!

purplesequins · 03/12/2021 18:57

is it like a creamy cup-soup?
a full colonoscopy or a sigmoidoscopy?
tell the nurse upon admitting, they might want you to have an enema before the procedure.
good luck.

AsleepOnTheTrain · 03/12/2021 18:59

You'll be fine. Just drink plenty. You can have consommé. Baxter's do one

jayde28 · 03/12/2021 18:59

I work on an elective surgical ward and deal with a lot of bowel related surgeries.

Clear fluids include things that doesn't have bits etc in.
For example on my ward patients can have coffee but no milk, vegetable or chicken broths, apple juice with no pulp etc.

Basically anything that is sort of transparent hence why you can't add milk to tea or coffee. Even though your brother is coloured if you poured it you can normally see through it when less dense

It'll be fine but if you are worried just mention it to them in the morning so they are aware

Ietthemeatcake · 03/12/2021 19:02

I had one brought forward by a week so I hadn't done any sort of special diet at all up until I had to stop eating, and it was still ok. The prep solution dealt with it.

OutdoorHousePlant · 03/12/2021 19:03

Had mine last week, as long as your broth is clear (ie no milk) you're fine. Black tea is fine. No milk products or blackcurrant. Good luck with bowel prep I never want to smell mango again!

singlemumnow · 03/12/2021 19:10

Thank you everyone :)

The prep is kinda making me sick, any tips on that Blush

Ice cold, straw, in a beaker/flask so you can't smell it.

It's unexplainably vile, good luck!

Itsbeenalongweek · 03/12/2021 19:15

Following as I've just been told I have Lynch Syndrome and will need to have one of these every two years until I'm 75! Hope your's goes well OP.

Justgorgeous · 03/12/2021 19:18

Keep the prep in the fridge, use a straw and a champagne glass !

DownWhichOfLate · 03/12/2021 19:20

Make sure you drink loads of water. Maybe some lemonade after each jug of it?

tazzy73 · 03/12/2021 19:24

Make it with Sprite or 7-Up. Makes it much more palatable.
That's if you have to Still drink a 2nd one.

Chicken broth with sprite? Or am I misunderstanding!
DinoMamasaurus · 03/12/2021 19:45

If you have squash (not red coloured!) you can add that to help with the taste a bit, my system was - small glass at a time, add squash, couple of gulps through straw, then then water straight away, then quick suck of a lolly. When I did it it took me a lot longer than the suggested time to get through it all but that didn’t matter they said my prep was really good. So don’t feel like you have to rush.

Movi prep is vile and as others have said the worst part of the whole thing. I imagine its working by now. I found it a little easier to get through the rest once it had started taking effect.

Hope it all goes well tomorrow.

Imohsotired · 03/12/2021 19:57

7 Up or drink with water and then have some 7 up to take away the taste. Sometimes I set time targets and chug a bit because I find drinking it slowly makes me feel worse for longer. I have a colonoscopy every few years so have had too much time to experiment with techniques!

singlemumnow · 03/12/2021 20:35

I drank it with a straw - I had one glass and have thrown it all up :( - should I just continue with it or has this messed it up? Who knew having something up your bum was so complicated!

Keep going with it but drink it more slowly if you are being sick

Lots of people will tell you it works really quickly but it doesn't for everyone

I'd finished the 2nd jug before I started -but once I started I was glad I had an en-suite!

SexyNeckbeard · 03/12/2021 20:43

Angle the straw to the back of your throat to miss your taste buds and chase it down with 7up free. Keep going op you need to get it done - this prep is the worst bit of colonoscopies

SexyNeckbeard · 03/12/2021 20:44

Agree with this - it took ages for mine to work so I was really worried about it but it will work. Get down as much as you can no matter how long it takes
Idontbloodyknow · 03/12/2021 20:45

Drink it very slowly with small sips not gulps over an hour or more drink water after sip it is hideous and it will come out like a water fountain for hours it's the worse bit of the whole thing having a camera up there is positively pleasant after that let me assure you

Nordicmom · 03/12/2021 22:57

I also remember managing the first jug surprisingly well but the second was hard going I thought it was never going to end

I've just found this thread and am starting my prep today for my procedure tomorrow. I took two bisocodyl at 11pm last night and was in the bathroom sweating, retching and cramping at 4.30am. I was amazed how quick those tablets worked. I took the second lot of bisocodyl at 8am today and the liquid prep is due to start at 2pm. I'm dreading it. Bisocodyl usually take 12 hours to work for me not 5!
How long did you poop for once the liquid started working and was it very painful? I'm dreading it after feeling so ill earlier on. I'm also extremely anxious about the procedure in terms of what they might find. I'm a lone parent to an 8 year old, had a fit test of 13.9 and my ferritin is 8 along with constipation. The constipation is hopefully due to changing my diet but because they did a fit test and it was positive I have to be scoped. Both ends. Lucky me!
