I’m still a member of various SW groups though haven’t followed it in years. I just haven’t removed myself as I do use some of the recipes.

This was shared today and I was shocked. Surely if you’re sick, you shouldn’t be worried about this kind of thing? Or am I just overthinking it?

Yanbu, they're ridiculous

AutumnLeaves21 · 02/12/2021 20:54

YANBU. Slimming world is like a cult. Absolutely nuts.

The post shared said something along the lines of “You may be Ill but keep this in mind” Confused

I don't see a problem with this tbh? It's just trying to keep you on track I suppose.

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 02/12/2021 20:55

WOW that is SHIT! Policing the 'syns' on our meds! Fuck that. Hmm

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 02/12/2021 20:55

Well you shouldn't be worried but l guess their business model relies on people being obsessed with 'syns'

alisj · 02/12/2021 20:55

That's ridiculous

It IS like a cult. I went once and fucking loathed it. Would never go again.
ThankYouStavros · 02/12/2021 20:56

I just think it’s really quite toxic. Syn counting medication really is ED territory!

Apart from Lemsip (at a push) they're not meds. They're basically sweets that make you feel better. And full of sugar
ThreeFeetTall · 02/12/2021 20:57

But lockets aren't medicine, they're just sweets to make you feel better. It's not like the GP is going to prescribe them.

Exactly this. It's their business model... If people weren't worried about "syns" they'd be out of business.
Hankunamatata · 02/12/2021 20:57

But you could just have the sniffles and dont want to derail weight loss. Each to their own

iloverunningslow · 02/12/2021 20:58

It's a choice though isn't it. I don't do SW but those things do have calories in them, just because you have a cold doesn't change that. Once you know that, you prioritise accordingly. Have the night nurse but skip the biscuits because you feel sorry for yourself, or don't eat a whole pack of cough sweets, or focus on your recovery for a few days and get your diet back on track after, but accept your weight loss might slow for a short while.

MatildaTheCat · 02/12/2021 20:58

Might be helpful for someone who is on the programme and hadn’t considered this? I guess a lot of those lozenges are pure sugar.

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 02/12/2021 20:58

Fair enough, they're not all meds, but they are cold and flu remedies. Not bloody chocolate!

ThankYouStavros · 02/12/2021 20:59

True, I do understand it’s not technically medication, though it does set them off on a very dangerous path.

This. I got so sick of having my use of English corrected by the group leader that I dumped them.
NeverTrustaChristmasPud · 02/12/2021 20:59

Luckily my consultant takes the line, that if you're ill you take the medication you need and don't worry about it.

That list is worrying and if it's an official SW post/SW consultant they should be ashamed that they're putting profit before people's health.

If it's an unofficial group - then the person who posted if needs to take a step back and stop posting such stupid stuff. They should concentrate on their own (disordered) eating and not shame people for taking medication.

Yep.
DeepaBeesKit · 02/12/2021 21:00

This is fine? It would be a clearer message is they pointed out that a paracetamol or ibuprofen tablet is a) no syns and b) probably provides better relief for symptoms.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 02/12/2021 21:02

Strangling the twat that sent that 100 sins and worth every one of them! FFS

OneFootintheRave · 02/12/2021 21:03

I hate that poncey term "syns" but to be fair, most of that stuff is not meds. They are crappy, sugar filled sweets. Take some paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Chickychoccyegg · 02/12/2021 21:03

I dont see the problem with this, people could be making their way through several packets of soothers or lockets a day, drinking a bottle of lucozade or 2, but be trying to follow the plan, it's just giving information, no one will care if you choose to ignore and eat them all anyway, since you don't feel well, you decide what to prioritise
