I’m still a member of various SW groups though haven’t followed it in years. I just haven’t removed myself as I do use some of the recipes.

This was shared today and I was shocked. Surely if you’re sick, you shouldn’t be worried about this kind of thing? Or am I just overthinking it?

Oh you are so nbu. Nobody ever got fat by sucking a throat lozenge 🤦🏻‍♀️
I did slimming world for a short period of time in 2018, however realised very quickly that they taught bad habits. It's not a sustainable plan at all, and I had to retrain my brain to believe things such as white bread aren't actually the devil.

HarlanPepper · 02/12/2021 21:04

Some of these aren't medicine though? Halls Soothers are just sweets basically. I love them when I have a cold, I can easily burn through two packs of cherry Soothers a day and I imagine they are absolutely full of sugar.

Hmumoftw0 · 02/12/2021 21:06

I hate slimming world with a passion but there is truth in what a PP said, I remember once asking a pharmacist what cough sweets were safe in pregnancy she told me which one's but told me to remember they are full of sugar so not to over do it!

LethargicActress · 02/12/2021 21:08

I know very little about slimming world, apart from being vaguely aware of their use of ‘syns’, but I think it’s quite interesting. I’ll go for halls soothers next time instead of lockets, just because nobody needs pointless excess calories.

divface · 02/12/2021 21:08

O see what you're trying to say but lockets are just sweets aren't they.

Crimeismymiddlename · 02/12/2021 21:09

Most of those are sweets. Though if people feel they need them I doubt they would syn them.

Pixiedust138 · 02/12/2021 21:13

I hate the slimming word wording. No food is a sin

Jibberjabberhutt · 02/12/2021 21:15

Slimming World is a crock. You might lose weight but you won’t keep it off. It’s unsustainable. It teaches nothing about good nutrition and a good diet.

Thegreencup · 02/12/2021 21:16

I left slimming world after a lady won slimmer of the week for losing a stone in a week. The lady had notorious and hasn't eaten solids for the whole week. She told the consultant at weigh in. But the consultant spent the entire class talking about how fantastic she had done all week. Confused

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 02/12/2021 21:18

@FangsForTheMemory

This. I got so sick of having my use of English corrected by the group leader that I dumped them.

Really? Wow. How rude! Hmm WTF has your way of speaking got to do with your weight? Confused

MatildaIThink · 02/12/2021 21:21

The whole of Slimming World, just like Weight Watchers, is unreasonable.

I have only ever lost a stone in a week when I had salmonella poisoning.

Would never happen just through dieting.

Exactly. Nothing is bad for you (within reason,) as long as you have it in moderation.
RobotValkyrie · 02/12/2021 21:32

Rationing your medicine and food intake while ill? Sounds like a eating disorder cult... No one should be counting calories while fighting off an infection.

LibbyL92 · 02/12/2021 21:52

Slimming world was damaging for my mental health and relationship around food. I became obsessed.

Never ever again.

Pedalpushers · 02/12/2021 21:54

I'm really short and for me a few strepsils when I'm ill and can't diet/exercise is the difference between gaining weight and not. Not to mention it's a lot of sugar that people don't actually need. Lozenges aren't medicine.

DrierThanANunsNasty · 02/12/2021 21:55

All these diet programs just prey on the insecurities on others, I find them utterly repulsive Envy < not envy

SirChenjins · 02/12/2021 22:00

I really liked SW - found it really easy to follow and lost weight very easily (and have kept it off). It’s basically a low fat, low carb diet with plenty of protein and fruit/veg and a limited amount of crap each day. If you’re watching the syns then this just makes it easier to see how many are in these sweets - no-one if holding a gun to anyone’s head.

GinandGobbledegook · 02/12/2021 22:00

I definitely know of people who lost a stone in a week. It was celebrated like it was normal.

Slimming world is a cult. I was told to lay off the avocados and eat curly wirlys as they are less 'syns'

I lost 5 stone, had a raging ED, needed therapy and now I'm back to my start weight.

Tippexy · 02/12/2021 22:01

@GetTheFlockOutOfHere

WOW that is SHIT! Policing the 'syns' on our meds! Fuck that. Hmm
They're not really 'meds' though are they, they're essentially boiled sweets.
HelloBunny · 02/12/2021 22:03

They’re sweets at the end of the day... I think it’s fair enough. Some people follow SW to the letter, and would want to know what Syns to include.
SW isn’t perfect. My Mum is the sort of person who is either “in a diet” or out of control (food-wise). Yes, SW wants this kind of customer. But it keeps my Mum in check (her words, not mine).

DerektheGoose · 02/12/2021 22:03

All that happy clapping cos old Dorris lost a quarter of a pound.

No ta!

rjacksmiss · 02/12/2021 22:04

Absolute wackos

HelloBunny · 02/12/2021 22:06

As SC says, you can follow the principles of SW. Which are sound enough... But, yeah, some folks need absolute direction, they’re just not able to eat intuitively.

Strugglingtodomybest · 02/12/2021 22:07

I don't see the problem, it's just informing people, which is a good thing surely?

Personally, I don't consider any of these to be medications, and I think whoever posted it is trying to remind people that they're just sweets at the end of the day and you don't need any of them to get better.
