How do I book booster?

Trying repeatedly on NHS website given today’s announcement but still says I am ineligible? More than 3 months since last Jab. Can anyone help?

Is that a typo? You can’t book until 5 months after.

dementedpixie · 29/11/2021 19:07

It probably hasn't been updated yet if the news only came out today. Give them a chance to get it sorted

wineandcheeseplease · 29/11/2021 19:07

You wait til they update the system? It's literally just been announced!

They are reducing it but probably haven’t updated the nhs website yet. Took them about a week to update it so over 40s could book.
Cheshirewife · 29/11/2021 19:08

It could be weeks or even months before booking opens for some age groups. While the government have announced their intention, they haven’t yet committed to timings.

Lancrelady80 · 29/11/2021 19:08

No, it's been shortened to 3 months, and all over 18s can have booster. Announced earlier today.

It'll probably take some time for the booking system to be updated. Over 40s eligibility was announced on either a Thurs or Fri, and we were able to book from the following Mon.

Difgkdjfjffjsjs · 29/11/2021 19:10

Am over 40 but have been unable to book

I had the same and it’s been 4months since my second dose- think it will take time to filter through x

dementedpixie · 29/11/2021 19:11

Yes but they only made the announcement today. Be patient!

Yes because it has only been three months since your last vaccination. The system will need reprogramming to reflect the latest announcement.
ThinWomansBrain · 29/11/2021 19:12

when they announced the extension of boosters to over 60s or 50s that aren't CEV a month or so ago, the website took a couple of days to catch up.
Once available there were loads of slots - just keep trying the website.

Difgkdjfjffjsjs · 29/11/2021 19:15

Am just shy of five months since second jab. From reports it looks like it will still be staggered so even I am not yet eligible so can’t see how they will do younger age groups any earlier!

Difgkdjfjffjsjs · 29/11/2021 19:16

Thanks all - will keep trying (long queues on website each time - like trying to book an Ocado order in the dark days…)

OP posts:
Difgkdjfjffjsjs · 29/11/2021 19:18

10,000 people on the site!

If you're nearly at 5 months and over 40, you should be able to book, because when I booked mine, the appointments were after Christmas anyway, which would make it more than six months for you, even if the system hasn't been updated.

Did you put your details in and it then said you couldn't book? I suppose all you can do is wait a couple of days and see if you can do it then. If not, people have been advising to ring 119, so that might work.

Or it could just be that the system is overloaded right now, as they've told millions of people to get on and book their vaccine.

Thesearmsofmine · 29/11/2021 19:19

Give them a chance! L

dizzydizzydizzy · 29/11/2021 19:20

Some days ago it was announced on BBC news that "from today" 16 and 17 year olds can book their second jab. I immediately logged on but it wouldn't let me book. I tried again at 7:30 the following morning and it did work. So try tomorrow morning op.

MiaFarrowsWheelbarrow · 29/11/2021 19:21

I was able to book my booster straight after it was announced but I was position well over 2000 in the queue and had to wait quite a few minutes for my turn; possibly the website is inundated now so may be worth trying again later.

I did notice there were a lot more venues to choose from this time which made things much easier; last time I only had the choice of one venue which was 30 miles from me but this time there were over 8 venues in a 40 mile radius (Moderna vaccine and I live in a rural area).

Throckmorton · 29/11/2021 19:29

Worth checking if there are walk-in places near you doing the boosters as there are where I live (London)

Difgkdjfjffjsjs · 29/11/2021 20:35

This is what the website now says:

The NHS is working on plans to offer:

a booster dose to everyone aged 18 years old and over
a booster dose to people aged 16 years old and over with a severely weakened immune system
booster doses from 3 months after the previous dose - currently it's from 6 months after the previous dose
a 2nd dose to all children aged 12 to 15 years old who are not already eligible
Please note that this is not yet available.

We'll update this page once the service is updated. Please wait to be contacted by the NHS.

My concern is that I have been waiting patiently for my booster (have travel in January for work and want to have booster before it and would have been right on my 6 months) but now it looks like it’s a free for all so much younger people with lower risk may get it before me. I wish they would not announce until the technology is set up properly!

OP posts:
Difgkdjfjffjsjs · 29/11/2021 20:38

All that said again very impressed with how well this is being managed (apart from the slight website lag) and the quickness of the response to bring everything forward.

My Mum went to book her booster but earliest she could get was 17th Dec and had to travel 1hr away from her house. She has now been able to bring her booster forward to Thursday this week at her local community hospital however she is 62 and had lung cancer 3/4 years ago (she had part of her lung removed due to the cancer) plus been over 6 months since her second jab.
