Karndean - finish

Swimmum78 · 29/11/2021 18:25

Can anyone who has had karndean/any glue down lvt let me know if this finish is acceptable. I've gone for this product as I didn't want beading. However there are some small gaps between the floor and the skirting. Not sure if I am being too much of a perfectionist. Fitters are coming back tomorrow to do another room so opinions on whether I should ask then to rectify gaps. Pics attached.

I have Kardean and I wouldn't be happy with that at all.

pigsDOfly · 29/11/2021 18:31

No not good enough. Wouldn't be happy with that at all.

Chloemol · 29/11/2021 18:32

Mine does not look like that. It’s close to the skirting.

ponkydonkey · 29/11/2021 18:35

I have kardeen too, but they should finish it off properly with edging strips!

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 29/11/2021 18:39

They are both infils that have been cut too small. Not acceptable at all.

They should have measured it all far better than that and not needed to fill in any edges in the first place. It's vinyl FFS! They can and should be able to avoid those slim fillets.

EasyLikeSundays · 29/11/2021 19:23

Thats terrible get it sorted

ThinWomansBrain · 29/11/2021 19:29

I had bamboo flooring laid a few years ago, and it was gappy like that - I didn't want skirting boards.
I ended up compromising with a tiny skirting board - about 3cm high

Mantlemoose · 29/11/2021 19:31

No that's not acceptable however that's the whole point of beading.

User2638483 · 29/11/2021 19:34

I wouldn’t like that
BUT mine was laid before the skirting
That’s generally better

bungaloid · 29/11/2021 19:37

Not good enough

Brogues · 29/11/2021 19:37

I have amtico and there are no gaps. That’s a shoddy job.

Chasingsquirrels · 29/11/2021 19:38

Not acceptable at all.
I've had it laid to skirting in hall & downstairs loo, pretty much right up to the skirting.
In my kitchen, conservatory & utility we had the skirting off anyway and they laid upto the wall then we refitted the skirting on top so the flooring goes underneath it.

CaptaNoctem · 29/11/2021 19:44

I have Karndean and no I would not accept that

PyjamaFan · 29/11/2021 19:46

That's rubbish. I wouldn't be happy with that at all.

newname12345 · 29/11/2021 19:49

@HoardingSamphireSaurus

I don't think you understand what Karndean stickdown LVT is. It comes in 'planks' so its quite usual to end up with planks cut in this way at the edges.

The fitter though should have made a better job of cutting those pieces.

Swimmum78 · 29/11/2021 19:51

To clarify most of the flooring is flush to the skirting, it's just in a couple of places there are gaps. I will speak to the fitters tomorrow before they start the next room. Dh thinks I am being too picky but glad to hear consensus is I am not.

No, that’s rubbish.

Babamamananarama · 29/11/2021 19:56

DH and I fitted our own floor once because we were trying to save money. We managed better edging than that. I'd expect a much better finish from a paid professional.

Kitkat151 · 29/11/2021 19:59

@Brogues

I have amtico and there are no gaps. That’s a shoddy job.
I too have amtico....I too have no gaps
Kitkat151 · 29/11/2021 19:59

@Mantlemoose

No that's not acceptable however that's the whole point of beading.
But there’s no need for beading with LVT
R0llonspring · 29/11/2021 20:07

@Mantlemoose

I chose Karndean because it didn't need beading.

The fitter cut it tight to the existing skirting, it's a clean line with no gaps like yours OP. I think they were hoping you wouldn't notice the gaps and it is very straightforward for them to swap those boards out, so nothing to worry about.

Pawprintpaper · 29/11/2021 20:13

Watch out if the sun falls on those pieces because you may find it shrinks further and the gaps between planks widen. Happened to both our floor and my mum’s in a sunny square in the kitchen (both have karndean)

Skinnyankles · 29/11/2021 20:28

Dh is a floorlayer and specialises in these vinyl floors. Sorry OP, this is a real shoddy job. The vinyl should be tight fitting to the skirting boards. Mine aren't like that at all!

Skinnyankles · 29/11/2021 20:29

Definitely point the errors out

StoneofDestiny · 29/11/2021 20:32

Definitely not good enough. They need to fix it, you are not being picky at all.
