To be disgruntled with DH's poor choices re. junk food?

He always buys something weird that tastes horrible rather than make a safe choice that I everyone will enjoy, then scoffs it while I everyone els misses out. Junk food choices he has made in recent memory:

  • Lime and chutney poppadom crisps Envy
  • Pickle flavour Mini Cheddars Envy
  • Pizza Express with lamb topping EnvyEnvy
  • Ruby berry Magnum ice cream Envy

I'm fairly adventurous food-wise (have happily eaten caterpillars, frog legs etc. on holiday) but it's so disappointing when he says he's ordered pizza or got snacks and then I get presented with fizzy chicken korma and bin juice-flavour Pringles or something equally rank.

I'd like 1 and 4 from that list Grin

But that's not the point. He's welcome to buy them, but why are you all having to eat them?

Is it that these are the one junk food item on the list/weekly groceries/takeaway, and he unilaterally decides on something no one else has asked for? In which case no, YANBU.

But if they're his treats, he can buy what he wants!

NotMyCat · 27/11/2021 21:36

Those lime ones are lush! YABU Grin

Butteredtoast55 · 27/11/2021 21:38

YANBU and you also deserve kudos for the use of 'disgruntled'

Oblomov21 · 27/11/2021 21:39

YABVU
Then buy extra standard snacks. That you all can eat, as part of your weekly shop. And let him eat the wierd stuff. I can't believe you are so miserly.

I love pickle cheddars.

AnotherMansCause · 27/11/2021 21:40

Are they supposed to be treats just for him, or treats for everyone to enjoy? Do you generally get to pick a treat that you would enjoy, of approximately equal size / value?

DismantledKing · 27/11/2021 21:41

Those poppadom crisps are lush

AnotherMansCause · 27/11/2021 21:42

BTW I agree with the OP, I wouldn't eat any of those, my DH would happily scoff all of them. But he would bring me something lovely that he knows I could eat instead.

honeylulu · 27/11/2021 21:43

Buy your own junk food? Then you can get what you fancy, like he does. Simples.

BlowDryRat · 27/11/2021 21:43

I was trying to think of a more accurate expression than 'shaking and crying' or 'fuming'.

Sometimes they're things that he buys but the Pizza Express was a real treat meant to be for everyone's tea. The kids got nice piccolo pizzas and then he ordered that monstrosity for us to share Envy

How thoughtful of your partner

Shame he doesn't get it right

If he was on here writing this he would be called abusive for putting you down for trying your best

PlanktonsComputerWife · 27/11/2021 21:44

My brother is like this. He'll bring loads of chocolate flavoured with gack Australian beer and caramel, look mystified when everyone politely declines and then end up eating it all himself.

EileenGC · 27/11/2021 21:44

Yeah, that's not on. When sharing food with others, it's polite to agree on what to get first.

BlowDryRat · 27/11/2021 21:45

He's welcome to buy all his horrible snacks. Just not to come home with a 'treat' and then sit there scoffing it after offering it round knowing no one else will want it!

That's why he does it. I've noticed time and time again on here that men are often greedy with the 'family' snacks and treats.

Grin yes of course I'm being abusive for refusing to eat his snacks.

What are you on about ?

Re-read my comment please

DismantledKing · 27/11/2021 21:58

Re-read my comment please

Why? It was a silly comment.

Note how I clearly don't say NOT eating the snacks is being abusive but slamming someone for trying their best is the issue

BlowDryRat · 27/11/2021 22:05

He's not trying his best to please me, neither am I 'slamming him'.

If she wants snacks of "equal size/value" surely she can just buy them herself.

HestersSamplerofCarrots · 27/11/2021 22:10

I’d eat all those 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sensible fella. I’ll be calling him Joey from now on.

Just tell him what to get!

GinGinItsAWonderfulThing · 27/11/2021 22:11

Who shares Pizza Express?!! Those same weirdos who order a salad from there too…

Xmassprout · 27/11/2021 22:19

All of those are delicious!

BlowDryRat · 27/11/2021 22:22

To be fair, I was out when he ordered the Pizza Express so he couldn't ask me what I'd like. Literally anything else on the menu would have been fine!
