To be disgruntled with DH's poor choices re. junk food?

BlowDryRat · 27/11/2021 21:30

He always buys something weird that tastes horrible rather than make a safe choice that I everyone will enjoy, then scoffs it while I everyone els misses out. Junk food choices he has made in recent memory:

  • Lime and chutney poppadom crisps Envy
  • Pickle flavour Mini Cheddars Envy
  • Pizza Express with lamb topping EnvyEnvy
  • Ruby berry Magnum ice cream Envy

I'm fairly adventurous food-wise (have happily eaten caterpillars, frog legs etc. on holiday) but it's so disappointing when he says he's ordered pizza or got snacks and then I get presented with fizzy chicken korma and bin juice-flavour Pringles or something equally rank.

@Strangevipers

How thoughtful of your partner

Shame he doesn't get it right

If he was on here writing this he would be called abusive for putting you down for trying your best

Hmm
Strangevipers · 27/11/2021 23:29

@Scotabroad24

😂

LemonViolet · 27/11/2021 23:45

YABVVVU about the pizza. It sounds amazeballs. Unless there’s some dripfeed that you hate hate hate lamb, that sounds like it would be the absolute best pizza on the menu no matter what.

Same for the lime poppadom chips and ruby magnum tbh….do you just have really bland taste OP? Grin

It’d be unreasonable if you only ever agree to plain boring food so that he’s never able to have the more tasty option.

Either you need to communicate more and compromise, or the chooser/buyer gets to decide. Buy your own ready salted crisps and margherita pizza

GreenEyeOfTheLittleYellowGod · 28/11/2021 03:09

YANBU...Yuck Grin

safariboot · 28/11/2021 03:17

Have you told him to just get the normal flavours of stuff not all these weird ones?

KylieKoKo · 28/11/2021 03:18

Dp often buys marmite crisps but I've trained him to also pick me up some crisps in a civilised flavour at the same time.

SmellyOldOwls · 28/11/2021 03:19

You know where the shop is, go and get your own snacks if you don't like them.

redtshirt50 · 28/11/2021 03:26

I love the mime and chutney poppadoms!

everything else sounds weird though so I agree with you there

Rangoon · 28/11/2021 03:26

I come from somewhere famous for producing lamb and even we don't put it on pizza. I imagine it would be quite greasy as it cooled.

I think your husband is not as thick as all that. He made sure the kids got something edible didn't he or they'd have whined and disturbed him. Being of a direct persuasion I'd have explained to him ages ago about taking the middle of the road choice. If he took no notice, his snacks would start to vanish with me firing up the waste disposal unit. I think your husband is perfectly aware of what he is doing and is an inconsiderate ass.

MiddleParking · 28/11/2021 06:16

That would absolutely send me under. Especially the lamb pizza, Christ. I need gaviscon just reading about it.

Slippy78 · 28/11/2021 06:20

None of those flavours are weird...

WaltzingBetty · 28/11/2021 06:30

Note how I clearly don't say NOT eating the snacks is being abusive but slamming someone for trying their best is the issue[/quote]
Where is OP 'slamming' her partner? In fact where has she actually criticised him at all? Calling abuse because someone is having a bit of a moan on the internet is ridiculous.

In what way is him buying stuff his longterm partner dislikes 'trying his best'?
You seem to have a very low bar for 'best' as an incredibly inaccurate view of abuse. FWIW this is not it.

DappledThings · 28/11/2021 07:35

None of those things sound adventurous or odd. They are just normal foods. YABU.

icedcoffees · 28/11/2021 07:47

I don't understand what's weird about any of the foods you've listed Grin

And lamb pizza sounds amazing and now I want one Envy

Porcupineintherough · 28/11/2021 08:02

None of those food choices sound particularly weird. Maybe you're just fussy?

jelly79 · 28/11/2021 09:04

Does he do it on purpose? Surely he knows what you like or don't like

Normally if someone is bringing take away home there is a conversation about what people like or want

Porcupineintherough · 28/11/2021 09:12

@jelly79 do you really consult your partner every time you buy a packet of crisps? OP has already said that she wasnt around to be consulted about the pizza.

Given that the OP has quite a conservative palette, if she does most of the food shopping and cooking (an assumption but the odds are on my side) then these snacks might be her dh's chance to experience a wider variety of flavours.

Porcupineintherough · 28/11/2021 09:13

palate

Rhioplepog · 28/11/2021 09:51

My husband does stuff like this all the time. It kinda helps me not eat the ‘treats’ we have at home because they are all rankSmile

In a strange plot twist he also thinks margarita pizza is the best flavour, so it’s either that (boring) or some sort of horrific 6 meat curry flavoured pizza with a side of kebab meat flavoured garlic bread Grin

RandomLondoner · 28/11/2021 09:56

What's wrong with lamb? It's the best of all the red meats.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 28/11/2021 10:01

I must say, if I were going to indulge in a bit of junk food, your DH's list would be spot on! Yum!

Suprima · 28/11/2021 10:05

@steff13

I fear for what dire relationships you have been in if you think it is normal for a woman to go out an ‘buy her own snacks’ when her partner is bringing home something he is selling as a family treat

Part of being in a relationship is that you do nice things for each other, and make each other’s lives a little sweeter

OP’s husband is purposely purchasing things that only he will like so he doesn’t have to share

The response to this is to address this selfish behaviour, not tell OP to go and buy her own crisps

tabulahrasa · 28/11/2021 10:11

Where did he get the mini cheddars?

The pickle ones are amazing and I haven’t been able to get them anywhere for years...

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 28/11/2021 10:12

@tabulahrasa They sometimes have them in B&M.

BlowDryRat · 28/11/2021 10:19

@RandomLondoner

Normally I'd agree with you but the pizza version was awful. I just googled and it's 'slow-cooked spiced lamb, whole pomegranate, with juicy red onion and fresh mint'. With couscous, that would be amazing. On a tomato-base pizza and covered in cheese? N.a.s.t.y

No idea about where he got the Mini Cheddars, sorry.
