To be hurt by this prank

I'm in a tough spot at the moment and am being thrown out of my home and could do with extra funds so I entered a phone competition to win a lot of money. They will randomly call someone and you have to say a phrase to win the money (you've probably heard this competition if you listen to the radio in the UK). It came to the time where they were going to call the person and my phone starts ringing from a withheld number, obviously I answer and the phone is quiet for a minute... Then I see my friend laughing to himself, it was him that called me. He's aware of my situation and knows I'm struggling so I was hurt that he'd do that.

He is not a friend
Mindareno · 26/11/2021 21:20
Your friend is a spiteful dick. I’m sorry for your situation and hope it improves
Returnoftheowl · 26/11/2021 21:21
That is definitely a mean trick, laughing at someone who's struggling isn't funny.
HollowTalk · 26/11/2021 21:21
He's a real bastard. I'm so sorry he did that. He's not your friend.
AntiHop · 26/11/2021 21:21
That's horrible.
5zeds · 26/11/2021 21:21
What a horrid thing to do. Tell him so.
nocoolnamesleft · 26/11/2021 21:23
Friend? Like fuck they're your friend.
CoffeeAndDryShampoo · 26/11/2021 21:23
What an absolute dick! Did he think that somehow you would find that funny?! I would never in a million years think about doing something like that to a friend. Sorry for your situation OP
Tomthumbsbigbum · 26/11/2021 21:23
That's really cuntish. I'd be swerving him for a good while, or, until he'd given a grovelling apology.
I hope things improve for you soon
GTAlogic · 26/11/2021 21:24

NeedsCharging · 26/11/2021 21:24
Not a friend.
However I cannot ignore the fact that you are spending money in order to rectify your bad financial situation.
Is that something we can help with?

Do you go on moneysavingexpert Competitions Time forum op?
I've won lots on that over the years, ipads, a PlayStation, £1000 Tesco vouchers etc.

Oh that's bad
cakecakecheese · 26/11/2021 21:43
That's so nasty. Please don't stay friends with him.
Jibberjabberhutt · 26/11/2021 21:44
Oh that’s so unkind. I hate stuff like this. It’s designed to humiliate and a friend would never do it.
Jengnr · 26/11/2021 21:45
For future reference, I won some cds on Planet Rock once and they don’t withold their number.
Your ‘mate’ is a cunt though.
Hoppinggreen · 26/11/2021 21:50

I’m sorry this happened
TractorAndHeadphones · 26/11/2021 21:51
With friends like this who needs enemies? What a f cunt
Doingtheboxerbeat · 26/11/2021 21:52
My DB would absolutely do this. There was someone we know who was really struggling - very little money to put in the electricity meter etc - and she was gifted with a fake winning scratchcard. My DB thought this was hilarious .
grapewine · 26/11/2021 21:56
What an absolute bastard. I'd tell him to fuck off. That's so mean.
BoredZelda · 26/11/2021 21:58

The laws around this mean they all have to give you the option of entering for free somehow. Even the Children In Need ones this year where you could text a donation to win prizes, they gave the option of cancellation of the donation but staying in the prize draw.
