To think Gove spiked Johnson’s drink today

I hate the Tories and Johnson- but that speech today ...

I couldn’t bare to watch. It was so painful. And worst of all I actually felt sorry for Johnson.

What on earth was going on?

There’s talk of it being a distraction from the health care bill. But Johnson wasn’t acting or putting on a show. That was real falling to pieces.

I wonder what was going on his head. It seemed like he was in turmoil and couldn’t concentrate. Either that or he was drunk or drugged.

AIBU to think there’s a plot to get rid of him and he was worrying about that?

YABU feeling sorry for Johnson!

It was really excruciating to watch though, just the embarrassment for poor old Britain.

Unicornsanctuary · 22/11/2021 21:25

It did make ‘covefe’ seem like Booker level literature, right enough.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/11/2021 21:36

I was about to call him a clown. However at least a clown knows its own stuff and can organize a circus.

Russianmax · 22/11/2021 21:40

I can’t stand the man. He revolts me all of the time, but I think I’d feel sorry for anyone in that state. It really was as if he had completely lost control.

I think I’ve got quite good antenna for bullshit. And that really wasn’t bullshit. He was in trouble.

I hope you are right, and hope he will be gone soon.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 22/11/2021 22:03

It's well known that he has a drinking problem and in all likelihood is suffering from (and attempting to hide) severe and chronic Long Covid symptoms. Would explain a lot.

Porcupineintherough · 22/11/2021 22:07

Dont know about Long COVID, he came across as someone who'd drunk to much to me. And of course he's a lazy fucker so I doubt he'd done much prep.

ThesecondLEM · 22/11/2021 22:07

WTF was going on? He clearly isn't quite well. The mind boggles

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 22/11/2021 22:07

Even on a human level I can’t feel sorry for him… he is unraveling

TatoAndBeans · 22/11/2021 22:07

You know he was in the press in August saying he was giving up alcohol until the baby was born? As he was in January this year and most of last year too.

As an unrelated aside, I think it’s funny the seemingly unrelated choice of photos the press use to accompany a story…

He was in that horrible state when you've had a massively long sesh and you're still half cut, but the hangover is already starting.

I remember it well, from when I was still young enough to drink like that.

RAFHercules · 22/11/2021 22:29

"Forgive me, forgive me"
No, Boris.
Never.

Beamur · 22/11/2021 22:34

I think it was a bet he lost...

NinjaTuna · 22/11/2021 22:34

Look up Jeremy Vine my Boris Story. This is just an echo of that.

Both DS and I thought of that on seeing the clip today.

But what's the advantage to Johnson of this feigned whacky delightfully slightly-pissed forgetfulness now he's PM, on camera?

Udouhun · 22/11/2021 22:53

He looked like he was hungover and had been drinking last night.

NinjaTuna · 22/11/2021 22:53

@spindleswhorl The thing that came out consistently from his London Mayor time is, he's lazy.
I'm guessing that play acting has worked time and again. A cute act with parents, a manipulative act with siblings, tried it on at Eton and got away with it. By the time Jeremy Vine witnessed it and then wrote about it it's a tried and tested behaviour strategy. Eton has given us a lazy, over confident man, not the strategic diplomat the role actually needs.

It looks like a panic attack.

TheWestIsTheBest · 22/11/2021 23:28

Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

AlexaShutUp · 22/11/2021 23:40

I don't think he was drunk or on drugs. I just think he is a twat. This whole thing is a game to him, he is playing at being PM. It doesn't really matter to him if the speech is a car crash or not, it's just a bad round in the game as far as he's concerned.

I think he just couldn't be arsed to prepare properly and figured he could wing it. I think he believes that his "charisma" will carry him through in the absence of any substance. To be fair to the guy, it has worked pretty well for him to date.

ClaudiusTheGod · 22/11/2021 23:52

Except it didn’t work this time. The magic has gone.

SpindlesWhorl · 23/11/2021 00:43

Yeah, the CBI businessmen and businesswomen weren't exactly roaring in the aisles, were they?

I guess they were more sober than the after-dinner circuit crowd.

MammaLovesLeopard · 23/11/2021 07:32

I haven't seen it. Can someone please post a link?
