Should I be worried about no heartbeat at 6+3?

Bloomers58 · 22/11/2021 20:15

Had a TV scan this morning. Thought I was 6+2, am measuring 6+3, the scanner said she could see a sac, but no HB yet. The report says 'no embryo'. Does anyone have any success stories or similar finding outcomes they can share with me? Many thanks in advance.

I was 7+w when a HB was found, it isn't an exact science at this early stage so try to not worry, easier said than done though 🤞🏼

Quickncjust4this · 22/11/2021 20:21

Oh op I know exactly what you are going through.
I had the exact same experience at 6+2 and I now have a happy and healthy 5 year old so there is definitely hope. I'm wary or getting your hopes up though as I know all the information they give you is not as cheerful .
What plan have you been given? We booked a private scan for two days later and there was a heartbeat clear as day.
Sending all good wishes to you

AnyFucker · 22/11/2021 20:22

Have you got another scan planned in a week or so ?

Evesgarden · 22/11/2021 20:25

OP, did you see an embryo or an empty sack?

JunoMcDuff · 22/11/2021 20:26

Yeah, 6+6 I had the same. Was scanned due to concerns it was ectopic. Could see sac but nothing else. All was fine, he's 6 now.

TallulahMazda · 22/11/2021 20:29

17 years ago I had a scan at the same weeks as you. No heat beat found, just a sac and prepped for a missed miscarriage with a D&C. Told to go home and come back in a week for a rescan and prepare for the aforementioned. Hideous week of worry and upset.
Shes now 5ft8 worth of 16 year old gorgeousness.
Never give up hope.
I hope you have a very positive outcome xx

Jobegg · 22/11/2021 20:34

I know you have probably posted for hopeful stories but honestly there is no way of predicting this- I assume you’ve had the scan because of some symptoms?

I had a scan at the same stage and miscarried. They checked my HCG which was declining and then I began to pass everything.

It’s harder to do than to say but as ever hope for the best but expect the worse.

I suppose the hope in my story is that I conceived again within a few weeks.

Hemingwayscats · 22/11/2021 20:41

NHS or private? I saw a HB on a private scan at 5+6, it was a vaginal scan. It was 7 weeks before I saw a heartbeat on an NHS one, their equipment isn’t as good.

Bloomers58 · 22/11/2021 20:54

Wow! So many responses already, thank you so much. So here is some more info. The scan was private, went because of significant right sided pain and didn't want to wait for my referral to EPU.

Here is what the report said -

Uterine contents - 1 gestation sac measuring 14.2 containing: 1 yolk sac seen. No embryo seen. Inconclusive scan.

Advice - Repeat pregnancy test in 2 weeks, when positive call midwife to arrange for a dating scan. Book for a further private scan following a positive test in 2 weeks if you wish.

Thoughts?

I was around that when I started bleeding, exact same as you, sac there but no heartbeat. Had to wait 10 days (longest 10 days of my life but the bleeding stopped and my symptoms worsened so was hopeful). Went back after the 10 days and there was a heartbeat. She is 8 now and upstairs in my bed! Grin

RoyKentsHairyBack · 22/11/2021 21:02

I had an ivf twin pregnancy (so exact dates) and had a scan at my clinic at 7+2 or 3.

I had one heart battering away and one embryo but only the tiniest slow blip. Was told that twin may not make it but 12 years later she is galumping around like a baby rhino (as is her twin). By 9 weeks all caught up.

Good luck my lovely

bengalcat · 22/11/2021 21:05

Do you have an EPU appt ?

Milkshake54 · 22/11/2021 21:06

Call your EPU as they don’t go off private scans… they’ll likely scan you again and then again in another 7-10days.

It’s positive the measurements were what you we’re expecting. Fingers crossed for you!

Bloomers58 · 22/11/2021 21:09

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories. Congrats to those that were a success and sorry for the losses. EPU are due to call me tomorrow and may or may not want to scan me now I've gone ahead and impatiently gone privately. I've had previous abdominal surgeries with copious amounts of scar tissue so I was very anxious about ectopic. Wondering if to bother continuing down the EPU route now, or if they will even be interested to further test. I guess i'll see what they say tomorrow. I feel so grateful for everyone's responses.x

I had an EPU scan at about 5.5 weeks due to significant right sided pain, and there was just a sac and pole… went back at 7.5 weeks and there was a heartbeat - he’s just turned 7 years old. Ie ouodnt get too downhearted at this point.

SilverGlassHare · 22/11/2021 21:10

I wouldn’t, I mean. Good luck for the next scan.

Bloomers58 · 22/11/2021 21:14

Do you think the words 'no embryo' on the report means no pole? I could have sworn she mentioned a pole, but there is no mention of it at all on the report.

Uterine contents - 1 gestation sac measuring 14.2 containing: 1 yolk sac seen. No embryo seen. Inconclusive scan.

Make sure they scan you - don’t pay for another private follow up!
SheilaWilcox · 22/11/2021 21:47

In my experience having two miscarriages, neither time did they give me any false hope of a positive second scan. They made me wait a week before arranging a D&C 'just in case' but were clear that it was a formality.
As you've not been given bad news, there is still some hope.

Bloomers58 · 22/11/2021 22:04

Thank you everyone, I have some hope, but am prepared for the fact it might not be good news xx

SilverGlassHare · 23/11/2021 17:04

I think "no embryo seen" doesn't mean there's no chance at all, or they wouldn't have said "inconclusive". The fetal pole develops at around 6 weeks so it could just have been too small to see at that point.

Bloomers58 · 23/11/2021 22:00

Thank you. EPU called this morning and wanted to re scan me today but I have managed to hold the off until Friday, when I will be 6+6 or 7 weeks (there seems to be a day between my days and what last scan showed). I'd very much hope to see a fetal pole by then to be feeling positive, and ideally a HB.
