To wonder where the men's version of this jumper is?

Or is it just women who have to be kind this Christmas?

I've just looked through the men's and they are all plain coloured jumpers. I want those. Not this glittery shit with messages to "be kind".

To wonder where the men's version of this jumper is?

Sainsburys are absolutely shocking for their gendered slogan T-shirt's. I remember a post a few weeks ago about kids T-shirt's and the girls was 'let's stay home' and the boys was something about being loud and mad.

LolaSmiles · 19/11/2021 10:32

I hate this crap.
It starts on baby clothing and is a drip drip drip telling women and girls to be passive, compliant and put everyone else first.

Sirzy · 19/11/2021 10:35

Why not just buy the one you want even if it’s labelled as men’s then?

TurnUpTurnip · 19/11/2021 10:35

Yanbu, I hate the be kind crap always on girls/women’s clothes

Chocolatewheatos · 19/11/2021 10:36

Then buy one of those? I always buy "mens" jumpers. They're not fitted so don't really have boob problems and men can wear that one if they want. I don't think men really wear clothes with slogans on though do they so why would companies bother spending the money making them when they're not likely to be bought?

Returnoftheowl · 19/11/2021 10:37

Another reminder that a women's place in life is being nice and not make waves.

When are men going to start "being kind"?

Wife2b · 19/11/2021 10:40

Oh do pipe down OP. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it, it’s that simple. It’s not particularly to my taste either so I’d scroll on by. Stop trying to find things to be bloody offended about.

Stevie6 · 19/11/2021 10:41

The problem is women buy this shit - I don't know a man that would 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Grin I actually saw it in store yesterday and was offended. I didn't go out of my way, I just didn't photograph it there and then so I found it online. But it offends me so I'm going to talk about it!

It's a vicious cycle. This shit is on offer from the day a girl arrives on this earth, their parents buy this shit for them and probably socialise them into how important it is that girls are smiley and kind, they grow up into women who think this sort of twee sexist stereotyping is cute, buy these slogan things as a woman, have their own children and then buy their own daughters the same old shit.

KatherineofGaunt · 19/11/2021 10:46

@Sirzy

I would but I'm petite, so even the smallest men's jumpers swamp me!

But it's the message on this jumper that offends me, really.

I’d assumed @Wife2b was being sarcastic. Telling the OP to pipe down = OP needs to be kind, inoffensive, know her place, seen not heard.

but maybe not. Sad

FOJN · 19/11/2021 10:53

Women are not only expected to"be kind" but also to "pipe down" now.

Know your place OP!

It's almost as if this kind of messaging has no impact on girls and young women and yet if you read almost any account of a woman being a victim of harassment, assault or other violence they often knew they were in danger but tried to get themselves to safety without being "rude". It's time we stopped pushing the message that little girls are made of sugar and spice and all things nice; it harms them.

I think it's more of a nod to the Caroline Flack 'be kind' thing than keeping women in their place to be fair. It's still a shit jumper though.
Shodan · 19/11/2021 10:55

Maybe....it's a clever trick designed to tell MEN to be kind.

It's a long-held view that Men look at boobs, not faces, so when they see the slogan it will filter into their brains?

OhGiveUp · 19/11/2021 10:57

There's no law to say that you have to buy it or wear it.
I saw a woman's t.shirt the other day with what looked to be boobs drawn on with a marker pen and ' titties ' written above it.
I just walked past and forgot about it.

Scautish · 19/11/2021 11:01

I just walked past and forgot about it

I think this sums up the problem perfectly.

NewlyGranny · 19/11/2021 11:01

I subverted this message to an 8 yo girl in the family who was choosing slogans/affirmations for her letterboard. I planted the suggestion that it was something people might say to her when they wanted to take something away from her. Hopefully she'll be a bit suspicious if she hears it too often. She decided "Be kind to yourself" was best for her board. 😉

Pipe down? Seriously?!
HarrietsChariot · 19/11/2021 11:03

Maybe the point is no man would be stupid enough to wear it, so they don't make it. They believe some women are stupid enough to wear it, it's up to us to prove them wrong.

Making a men's version of something that shouldn't exist at all isn't the answer.

NewlyGranny · 19/11/2021 11:04

Imagine wearing that jumper on Christmas Day, rushing round like a mad thing, and everyone assuming it meant they could sit and be waited on hand and foot...☹️

No Hmm considering it’s on children’s tops as well 😐

You didn't forget about it though, or you wouldn't have been able to post on here...
NewlyGranny · 19/11/2021 11:05

Worse yet, imagine unwrapping it as a present!😱
