To wonder where the men's version of this jumper is?

Or is it just women who have to be kind this Christmas?

I've just looked through the men's and they are all plain coloured jumpers. I want those. Not this glittery shit with messages to "be kind".

To wonder where the men's version of this jumper is?

Sainsbury’s and next are bad for this. The plethora of pink when you walk in. Aisle after aisle of girls stuff and one tiny square for the boys with a sign that says “more online”. They seem to have got worse over the years, but arguably if that’s the way people spend their money you’d be a mad business to go against that.

KatherineofGaunt · 19/11/2021 11:08

@HarrietsChariot

Maybe the point is no man would be stupid enough to wear it, so they don't make it. They believe some women are stupid enough to wear it, it's up to us to prove them wrong.

Making a men's version of something that shouldn't exist at all isn't the answer.

Totally! I was being sarcastic, really, thinking that women's jumpers shouldn't have stupid glittery logos on, especially offensive ones like this!

Good point there Shodan Grin

Mamamia7962 · 19/11/2021 11:11

I personally don't like jumpers or tops with any slogan on them, but I wouldn't be offended by it.

It's just the modern day version of "tis the season of goodwill".

If you don't like it don't buy it, if they don't sell then they won't manufacture them next year.

TheOrigRights · 19/11/2021 11:16

Here's one and another and another

Not Sainsbury's but it's easy enough to get a man a Be Kind sweatshirt.

KatherineofGaunt · 19/11/2021 11:32

I'm not disputing they exist, I suppose, but these are not online retailers I've ever heard of before. I saw this jumper in a busy nationwide store yesterday while I was doing my food shop - right on the aisle facing the fruit and veg so it couldn't be missed. And Sainsburys don't sell anything even remotely like it for men or boys.

OhGiveUp · 19/11/2021 11:41

@Girlmom21 Until the OP mentioned the jumper she posted about then yes, I forgot all about it.

Mountainpika · 19/11/2021 11:42

I was so glad I had two sons and thus wasn't expected to push all the girly stuff on them. (Not that I would have done, anyway.) They were born mid-late 70s and things certainly have got worse since then.

TangledUp789 · 19/11/2021 11:50

I guess that men just don’t want to wear the trademark slogan of a woman who beat her boyfriend over the head with a lamp while he slept. Funny that.

Ah yes I get it - casual sexism.
RandomLondoner · 19/11/2021 11:53

If you don't like the message on the shirt, put 100% of the blame for its existence on the people who buy and wear it. Shops and manufacturers only sell what people want to buy.

There's no men's version because men wouldn't want to wear it.

Men are not making women wear it. Men don't generally give a toss what women wear. (There's a saying by some French intellectual, men who are interested in women's clothes aren't interested in women, men who like women don't care what they wear.)

RandomLondoner · 19/11/2021 11:55

I missed the links to men's versions. I still doubt there's much of a market for them though.

ColdShouldersWarmTummy · 19/11/2021 11:56

I want this one

Personally I don't think the problem is the jumper itself or the people who do or don't wear it, it's the messages we give our children and young people about which virtues are for girls and which for boys. That's why only women wear them.

x2boys · 19/11/2021 12:01

I assume some people do like this kind of stuff ,otherwise they wouldn't be selling ,just don't buy it
You can't police what other people like though

DdraigGoch · 19/11/2021 12:03

@OhGiveUp

There's no law to say that you have to buy it or wear it. I saw a woman's t.shirt the other day with what looked to be boobs drawn on with a marker pen and ' titties ' written above it. I just walked past and forgot about it.
But the OP needs a jumper and the only ones that fit are the ones with this guff printed all over them.

Oh do pipe down OP

Yes OP, pipe down and be kind!! Has that jumper not taught you anything!!!

Deffo getting the sleigh the patriarchy one!

Saucy99 · 19/11/2021 13:30

@HarrietsChariot you're right. Sainsbury's is a £7billion company. You think they just stock stuff they hope will sell? Every product they stock is carefully curated as they know what sells. I women didn't buy it, they wouldn't sell it.

GunsNShips · 19/11/2021 13:33

The first men’s jumper linked to is from man who has it all, well known for calling out everyday sexism and the clothing on there deliberately mirrors the usual offering for the opposite sex. Really doesn’t prove the point!

But yes, you did manage to find two random, not very well known, online retailers selling a men’s be kind too.

LolaSmiles · 19/11/2021 13:40

It's a chicken and egg situation though.

They also sell silly stereotypical clothing for babies as well, and it's known that people treat babies differently based on what sex they are perceived as, and then women are socialised into be nice, be kind, smile etc, so when they see these jumpers it becomes just another nice little jumper. Then they put that in their trolley and a nice pretty little jumper for their daughter all about being pretty and kind.

The cycle needs breaking somehow. I'm sure Sainbury's would be able to sell an almost identical jumper without a twee stereotypical slogan. They just choose not to.

DrSbaitso · 19/11/2021 13:45

@Wife2b

Oh do pipe down OP. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it, it’s that simple. It’s not particularly to my taste either so I’d scroll on by. Stop trying to find things to be bloody offended about.
Yes, mist - I mean, Wife2b!

I always look at the names on posts like this to see if they're overtly feminine or flowery. Very often they are. Isn't that interesting?

Collaborate · 19/11/2021 13:47

@Stevie6

The problem is women buy this shit - I don't know a man that would 🤷🏻‍♀️.
I came on here to say this, but I see that Stevie6 has already said what needs to be said.

There is a market for this in women's clothing. There is no market in men's.

Acquacup · 19/11/2021 13:53

I always buy men's jumpers. Thicker, warmer, longer, more comfortable, better materials, longer lasting.
I also buy men's shoes for more or less the same reasons.
So I'm probably technically a man these days.

orchardgirl4 · 19/11/2021 14:18

I buy boys jumper and trousers for my girls. It's mainly thin leggings for girls and cardigans that have one button or none... Same for women's clothing really. I want to be warm! I'd love to wear fleece-lined stylish jeans and a jumper not cut to the mid-rif/holes cut from the shoulders/sleeves that only reach the elbow. But that's my own rant. I dislike the bias of slogans too. And pink colouring books filled with unicorns and princess's and blue colouring books filled with rockets and planets. I'll stop here :-D
