Depends on the oven. My current one is to grill with door closed

I also thought this depended on whether electric or gas. I’ve kept my electric oven closed when on grill and nothing bad has happened, but I actually don’t know!

All the ovens I've ever used (mostly electric) have been leave the grill door open, except our new oven, which has to be closed.

@PlausibleSuit

I think it depends on the oven.

In the instruction book, mine says to keep the door closed but my parents' oven is supposed to stay open.

This is absolutely correct. My oven needs to be closed when grilling.
Rainbowshit · 18/11/2021 19:37

both my current oven and previous oven have stated the door must be closed. to stop the knobs melting was the reason given for one of them!!

Wanderlust20 · 18/11/2021 19:46

Depends on the oven. I always thought open but the one in our current house actually displays a message telling you to close the door.

Depends on the oven. I think it depends on if it uses the fan during grilling. Fan on pulls out the moisture so door can be closed and still get crispy as it prevents humid atmosphere. No fan on door needs to be open at least a crack to let moisture out.

RonSwansonsChair · 18/11/2021 19:52

My oven has both options, normal grill (door open) or fan grill (door closed).

I'm another with a grill which won't function if the door is open, it's a PITA.

ContadoraExplorer · 18/11/2021 20:49

Our new oven won't start if the door is open but previous ones we always left if open.

LittleDandelionClock · 18/11/2021 20:54

Mine used to be OK with the door closed, when I had an electric cooker with a grill in. I have a gas cooker with a separate eye-level grill now.

This reminds me how much I loathed having a cooker with the grill inside. Such a PITA, especially if you wanted to bake AND grill at the same time. (EG, oven chips and fish fingers.)

Much prefer the eye level grill.
