4 Tyres for an old ford fiesta £320
Guttering, Soffits and Fascias to a three bed semi £3000
fence £1200. I'm very grateful the landlord next door has paid for the fence, i couldn't contribute.

I earn an alright wage but it is a single income house and things just seem to have sky rocketed!

This is a complete winge but 320 for 4 tyres. thats 75 quid odd for a budget tyre for my little fiesta.

I need a second income coming in because this is just pants and depressing.

Have you shopped around for tyres? The dealership garage quoted a similar price to yours when my car was serviced, I went to a local, independent garage and got two for £99 instead.

jusdepamplemousse · 12/11/2021 09:36

Yeah. It’s only going to get worse too. Brace yourself!

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 12/11/2021 09:40

We have realised that. We now put £300 a month away just to cover these as and when purchases that cost a fortune. That's about 3/4 of our discretionary income. Money certainly doesn't go far.

DeepaBeesKit · 12/11/2021 09:44

Did you need all 4 tyres immediately?

A lot of garages start warning about tyre condition well before they actually need replacing in terms of what's safe/road legal.

There's guidance online about tyre tread laws, there are tread wear indicators. We keep an eye on ours ourselves and in one instance found the garage were suggesting we replace 18 months before the tyre actually needed replacing.

Tyre wastage is huge - it's important to get the full use out of your tyres. They are designed to last.

DeepaBeesKit · 12/11/2021 09:47

Also - check your tyre pressure regularly, as not having correct tyre pressures increases wear.

This sort of stuff, plus property maintenance and checks you can do yourself, can save you a lot of money.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/11/2021 09:48

Brexit combined with the massive worldwide increase in the cost of transporting goods by container ship.

It’s only going to get worse Sad

hellcatspangle · 12/11/2021 09:54

No need to pay that for tyres, DS got two new ones last week for a fiesta for £100.

Otherpeoplesteens · 12/11/2021 09:57

Tyres have actually come down a lot in my experience. I can buy 255/40 R19s (admittedly for a large luxury saloon) for under £160 now, whereas when it was new 16 years ago there was not a single one available for under £250. It's four wheel drive so they all wear fairly evenly - the first time it cost me a four figure sum.

Unfortunately, home ownership comes with maintenance costs. I suspect these will rocket quickly because materials are now in short supply and so are the tradesmen to do it. You can blame this squarely on Brexit.

Wait until you have to install a heat pump.

Coteeee · 12/11/2021 09:59

Nanny Im going to shop about thank you. That price was for kwik fit

jusdepam why is it going to get worse? Im probably being naive...its prob covid brexit.

Onering that sounds very sensible. I'll get past christmas and start from January onwards.

This is a bit dramatic....
(in my defense ive been awake since 330..im tired and past it lol give me a bottle and put me to bed haha )

but its like theres leeches everywhere. I clicked on a tv programme o my partners sky. It said it was free but would cost 111 for the year. Obviously i didnt click on it...its like you cant make a move without your pockets being rifled through...

Im tired, fed up but am grateful for what i do have just fed up

Im taking the dog to the vets in an hour. she has an eye ulcer....

Libertaire · 12/11/2021 10:02

Always shop around for tyres. Black circles.com is a good place to start, then I use that price to benchmark local places to see if they can match or beat the price. Kwick fit are expensive & crap in my experience.

CorrBlimeyGG · 12/11/2021 10:07

All good advice, but what about people that can't afford to put savings aside? What about people that aren't able to shop around? So many people are falling from just about managing, into an endless cycle of debt just to cover the essentials.

CorrBlimeyGG · 12/11/2021 10:11

(And to make it even stranger, my original comment has not posted!)

Dogscanteatonions · 12/11/2021 10:14

Kwik fit is the absolute worst for tyres, a local independent place will get you a much better deal.

JingleCatJingle · 12/11/2021 10:14

Did you vote for Brexit or the Conservatives? Then you voted for this! Congrats!

If you didn’t sorry :(

Coteeee · 12/11/2021 10:21

Crossed posts sorry for those that answered my question as to why its going to get worse.

Tyres were an advisory 3 months ago. Have a friend who knows a tyre man. Im going to take it up to him this afternoon...

the guttering business....part of the soffit/fascia fell down after terrential rain a few weeks a go. Im chancing my arm to see if I can get my insurance to cover it but even i can tell it fell down because theyve been in place since the house was built.

Thank you all for letting me winge and get this off my chest. Sometimes Im hard on myself. But after putting this all down in black and white, i can see why Im fed up.
It most certainly could be a lot worse....touch wood it doesnt go that way haha

Im feeling a tad on my own at the minute. Relationship not great. Sons left for uni and one not coming for christmas....im happy about for them...just a little sad about it too. Worked so much over the years I havent focused on a social life and find myself with friends who I grew up who live a couple hundred miles away and no friends in my locale. Loads of aquaintances....

Im on rant wingea thon. Suppose to be going to Ireland to meet my partners parents, his ex wife keeps throwing the spanner in the works anytime we try and go anywhere. She cant have the kids as planned this weekend for whatever reasons. We dont get to go anywhere and Im tired of living in two houses but weve argued lots so its not ideal that we move in together. Living between the two houses is unsettling but how we manage things gives consistancy to his kids and I love them and him. Just want everyone under one roof and yes it would be lovely to share household bills and worries with someone. Not that thats a good reasdon to.
It doesnt look like were getting to Ireland.
My gran died yesterday....certainly not close she was a woman who wasnt very nice and casued a lot of damage. Im estranged from that side of the family and even my mum. I became aware of secrets my gran had and as I wasnt raised by my mum didnt want to cause problems and teh secrets are too big not to say anything. Now she has passed away it puts it all to bed. My uncle who is one of her two adoptive sons that my mum and siblings dont know anything about is planning ot go to the funeral. Now my gran denied he was her son....although he is the spitting image and he had all the legal documents. Im worried for him going as whats he goig to say....surprise im your long lost brother you never knew you had and theres also another brother.

Sorry I seem to have needed to get all this off my chest and really blurted and dumped it all out...

I better get the dog to the vets.

Coteeee · 12/11/2021 10:36

Can I just not adult today please.

Found out about my grans past when i researched my family tree of all things. Its amazing what comes up and what you can find in old newspapers.

I wasnt raised by my mum. When i found her she was more focused on her own life and after finding out about her adopted older brothers and the other stuff, anytime i did see her...it was like a big elephant in the room. My step grandad had asked me not to speak of it to anyone in the family.
From the ancestry though Ive found a lovely uncle and a lovely aunt I never knew i had.

Right this time I better get on. My heads just in a spin

Food etc has gone up so much. We have an ok income but we always feel like we have to stretch things.

longwayoff · 12/11/2021 10:53

Brexit, Covid, vile grasping government. It's not going to improve for some time so hang on in there. If you can get an Irish passport, get one, you may need the flexibility of travel in the future. Good luck.

Catflapkitkat · 12/11/2021 13:04

jinglecatjingle. Not just Brexit and Conservatives. We are in Sweden and everyone local has been moaning about recent price rises in food and energy costs. We have also been warned about possible winter power cuts too.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 12/11/2021 13:21

I totally feel you op

Me and dh both work in full time manual jobs and have recently taken on a second job together just to try and cover Xmas and then a big repair bill for my car Confused

Outgoings have increased by around £300-£400 per month in our house since April and Covid hit our finances hard.

This is the second month we haven't had to Rob Peter to pay Paul (so far Shock) so we break even but without this extra job there is nothing left for emergencies xmas or repairs/appliances.

We are both absolutely shattered. We work opposite hours to save on ferrying dc around although they're tween and teen so easier as they're older but still it's hard working two jobs each and looking after and running a family and a home.

I sometimes find myself in aldi at 9.30pm on a Saturday evening as it's the only free time to get a food shop in

Would love to do online delivery however I can't afford to shop In any of the ones that offer it so have no choice.

We've cut bak as much as we can and just need to grit our teeth through the next few months but things will still keep going up so it's a vicious circle op.

We are bloody sick of it but what can we do eh.

Sorry about your family issues Aswell.

Glittertwins · 12/11/2021 13:29

Things have definitely got more expensive. I had to replace the freezer compartment door of our fridge again. Bit pissed off that this is the second replacement of the original but the website I got it from last time wanted nearly £200. I found somewhere else for £125 but that was still nearly £35 than I paid 3 years ago. Should have lasted longer than that!
Black circles.com are very good for tyre prices too.

girlmom21 · 12/11/2021 13:32

For tyres, I got a surprisingly good deal from tyres on the drive - they come to your house too and take about half an hour for all 4!
Mine were about £160 for all 4 including them coming out.

userxx · 12/11/2021 13:34

Avoid kwik fit!!!! They are daylight robbers. Have a look at Blackcircles.com I've heard good things. Failing that go to a garage.

I went to the chippy the other day, sausage, chips and gravy was £5.20!!! I'm sure that used be around £3.00.
