Greggs

Sometimes I fancy a cheese snd onion pastie and loved them when I was a teenager. I got one today and it's tasteless. The pastry is awful. Their bat biscuits weren't as good this year either. We look forward to those every Halloween.

The world's going to hell. It started when Asda stopped putting caster sugar on their jam doughnuts. Then golden Graham's stopped being sold here.

And don't get me started on chocolate.

Still it's good for my weight I suppose.

They need to stop meddling with our food!

I love a Greggs cheese and onion bake, they also do a nice vegan sausage cheese and bean bake although the beans tend to go everywhere
They used to do a really nice vegetable bake but don't seem to any more

Titsywoo · 09/11/2021 21:35

I love a steak bake but I only buy the Greggs frozen ones from Iceland as they are lovely hot and fresh but in the shop they are generally lukewarm and soggy

tarasmalatarocks · 09/11/2021 21:49

Got to be honest, it fills a hole if in a motorway service station but basically it’s warm pastry and sloppy cheap gunk.

Sleeplessem · 09/11/2021 22:21

You want a good supermarket donut OP? Go to morrisons… 50p for 5 soooo much better than asda ones. So upset there isn’t a morrisons close to me 😢

Onemorebaby · 09/11/2021 22:29

Morrisons for doughnuts but avoid tescos. The disappointment is too much 😪

Ipadannie · 09/11/2021 22:35

Greggs used to do tubs of pigs in blankets at Christmas. Will need to investigate tomorrow now Blush

ChicCroissant · 09/11/2021 22:36

Love a Greggs coffee and a sausage roll, especially to break up a car journey about an hour from home I do have the frozen ones in the freezer but I prefer the ones from the shop.

If I do the shopping on a Sunday, I often pick up a Greggs coffee on the way back. Never tried any of their breakfast rolls but judging by how busy our local one is in the morning, they must be good.

I hear you on that
choirmumoftwo · 09/11/2021 22:42

Yes to the comments on Free From ranges. DD is coeliac and gluten free food is challenging enough without being dairy free as well. It feels lazy on the manufacturers part. And being vegan is a dietary choice, not a medical condition, yet their options are everywhere. Anyone tried getting a gluten-free meal deal in any supermarket lately?

logsonlogsoff · 09/11/2021 22:43

Gregg’s is getting a shout out on the fat shaking thread - maybe it’s a good thing the food gone to shite, if it had indeed….

ThinWomansBrain · 09/11/2021 23:55

I love that its pigs in blankets time of year - one of the sandwich chains used to have tubs of pigs in blankets with cranberry sauce - I hope it wasn't Abokado, because they all seem to have closed.

Co-op do really nice sausage rolls.

halloweenie13 · 10/11/2021 00:52

Agree I used to love a Greggs cheese and onion bake and a chicken club baguette but the last one of each I got in the summer was tasteless honestly and the bake a bit soggy. Like above said I am praying the festive bakes haven't been changed as they are the best thing they sell. I honestly find where I'm from Curtis' and Coupland's are a much better price and quality than Greggs and the best cheese and onion pasty I've ever had was from the Cornwall pasty co shop that shut years ago near me.

CaptaNoctem · 10/11/2021 17:25
@CaptaNoctem Try Soda Folk or Cawston Press. No nasty sweeteners!
I've never seen either of those brands around here - I'll keep an eye out

Sadly San Pellegrino is a Nestle brand so for ethical reasons I won't buy it. Interesting that they've reintroduced a sugar version. Hopefully a few more will follow their example. I really miss Ocean Spray Cranberry juice.

SoSobored · 10/11/2021 17:34

@vampirethriller

I came on to say the same thing! I thought it was just me - they always taste of banana - why is that?

ThinWomansBrain · 10/11/2021 19:02

Dalston's drinks are great - the Ginger Beer is amazing.

I did go to greggs today and buy donuts - purely research.
Lot of jam, but a bit yuk - maybe it was towards the end of the gay so not at their best.
I was on my own and someone has eaten them all, but wouldnt buy again.

ChrissyPlummer · 10/11/2021 22:09

@CaptaNoctem both brands have their own websites where you can order direct. Lidl sometimes have Virgil’s drinks in which are also sweetener-free. Also try Bottle Green, Belvoir, Teissere (hard to find the sweetener-free one but Ocado have it). I have done lots of research as all sweetener is vile, I’m sick of seeing labels saying ‘sweetened naturally’ and it’s bloody Stevia which is just as bad as the others.

StillWeRise · 10/11/2021 22:13

you think you have problems, OP, you do know that Greggs is really Birketts? Their cheese and onion pasties were divinely flakey and they had a lovely roll of sponge thing filled with whipped cream with fresh raspberries at the bottom. And sachertorte.

3scape · 10/11/2021 22:17

Re. Festive bakes. They are being advertised but don't seem to be in stock yet.

I think it will be the cheese.
I had a slightly out if date cheese pizza once and the taste like bananas. I’d imagine somewhere in the process of freezing, baking and leaving them out the “dairy” elements is breaking down.

SpiceRat · 10/11/2021 22:53

Love Greggs but only in the north east. Oh how I wish the rest of them did stotties and ham and pease pudding stottie sarnies.

Festive Bakes are out on the 22nd November, they were delayed I believe, should have been earlier.

PixieLaLa · 10/11/2021 23:00

It’s all about the chicken bakes Grin

mrsfollowill · 10/11/2021 23:14

There is a new baguette round these parts from Greggs- well 2 actually. They are doing a hot chicken/stuffing/gravy one and a 'Pigs under blanket' hot baguette with sausage, bacon, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Both are amazing. I am a firm fan of any 'Festive sandwich' but these are great. The 'bakes' have never been the same since the corned beef slice was discontinued as far as I'm concerned Grin

dementedpixie · 10/11/2021 23:21

They did a meat and potato pastie when I was a teenager and it was also discontinued Sad

lemmein · 10/11/2021 23:28

Steak bakes smell like dog food to me!

Love a festive bake though - and the sausage rolls, oh and anything from the cake counter 🐷

DoraTheScottishExplorer · 10/11/2021 23:31

Greggs always discontinue the things I love. I'm still bitter about them doing away with apple donuts, and I'm sure that was removed from the menu sometime in the 90s.
