Greggs

Sometimes I fancy a cheese snd onion pastie and loved them when I was a teenager. I got one today and it's tasteless. The pastry is awful. Their bat biscuits weren't as good this year either. We look forward to those every Halloween.

The world's going to hell. It started when Asda stopped putting caster sugar on their jam doughnuts. Then golden Graham's stopped being sold here.

And don't get me started on chocolate.

Still it's good for my weight I suppose.

They need to stop meddling with our food!

While we're on the subject of ruining things, why are places putting fluffy sugar on doughnuts?!? It should be gritty, crunchy sugar that sticks to your lips, not fluffy sugar that goes sodding soggy!

SO BLOODY ANNOYING

(I'm looking at you Tesco, you utter, utter bastards)

vampirethriller · 09/11/2021 15:29

@RacketeerRalph ooh I'll have a look in Morrisons, thank you

WheelieBinPrincess · 09/11/2021 15:30

Oh my good god yeah jackfruit!!! It’s bloody everywhere!

I love a good bean burger. Iceland do an amazing one, it’s called nacho cheese bean burger.

magicstar1 · 09/11/2021 15:45

@UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername I'm in Dublin, and Iceland do a range of Greggs bakes. They're really good...I haven't been since last year, but I'm sure they still have them.

Classica · 09/11/2021 15:48

I don't like Gregg's and don't understand the adoration it comes in for.

CounsellorTroi · 09/11/2021 15:48

I had a Toffee Crisp a while back. Was absolutely nothing like the delicious confection of my youth.

I'm in Scotland and they have them here

jay55 · 09/11/2021 17:30

Waving at the misses a good bean burger crowd.

FourteenSixteenTwentyTwo · 09/11/2021 17:37

I don’t get the love for Greggs. I think Morrisons have a much better bakery (especially their sausage rolls).

The coffee at Greggs is fantastic though.

Hm2020 · 09/11/2021 17:42

What is this about golden grahams Sad

FlowerFlour · 09/11/2021 17:49

So they DID change! Shock

I moved abroad and on my first trip back to the UK was so looking forward to a Greggs Cheese and Onion Pasty. It was horrible! I thought I was the one who had changed and maybe I was remembering it with rose tinted tastebuds. They waited until my back was turned, the bastards Angry

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 09/11/2021 18:53

I had a sausage roll (meat). It was so dry I nearly choked. Never again. And greggs used to be a personal favourite (pregnancy cravings involving said cheese and onion pasties).

BrightYellowDaffodil · 09/11/2021 19:15

@Bumblenums1234

The only place to get a good cheese abd onion pasty is Devon. No where else does them any where near as well.

Greggs cheese abd onion is grim and slimey

Which is all well and good except that Devon is several hundred miles from my work place and Greggs is just outside Grin

Their pastries are always a bit...meh. The dough-based ones are always too claggy, and some of them have really sickly icing that's a bit fake. The apple pastry with icing is nice though, but I will be on a sugar high afterwards!

As for drinks, I can't bear sweeteners either. I know it's not in Greggs but Belvoir do some lovely low-sugar (rather than replaced-sugar) drinks. And when I DO want a sugary drink, thankfully San Pellegrino brought back the 'normal' stuff instead of the sweetener-filled shite.

DroopyClematis · 09/11/2021 20:52

So much has changed , for the worse, in the last few years... maybe it's the veeguns' fault.

I'm partial to vegetarian food but most of it seems to be meat replication food.
Love veg.

And yes, Greggs pastry is the best but I'm not enjoying it so much now.

Can't seem to enjoy their sausage rolls anymore. 😢

Clocktopus · 09/11/2021 21:02

I think I need a Greggs for lunch tomorrow now. Ham and pease pudding stottie and an empire biscuit for after Smile

dementedpixie · 09/11/2021 21:04

Ham and pease pudding stottie

I dont even know what this is. I had a chicken and bacon baguette from greggs today

Clocktopus · 09/11/2021 21:07

It's a flat bread, about the size of a dinner plate. You can buy whole stotties at Greggs to fill yourself at home or you can get half a filled stottie as a sandwich.

Clocktopus · 09/11/2021 21:08

Photo is not mine

Greggs
Clocktopus · 09/11/2021 21:09

It's more chewy than regular bread but in a good way, has a sort of open air-bubble texture.

It’s part of Greggs regional range. We don’t get them here. We have bran scones instead for some reason.
Blindleadingtheblind · 09/11/2021 21:16

I think the version of Gregg's you get is regional. I'm in the north west and we dont have stotties in any of the Gregg's round here, but I'm told they are definitely sold in the north east.

@Namarah

They need to stop meddling with our food! I used to buy loads of lovely wheat free products. There were separate products for those who were dairy free. Everyone was happy. But nowadays lazy manufacturers like to roll everything into one “free from” product. Which is unsuitable for wheat free people like me because I actually need and enjoy dairy. And it’s unsuitable for dairy free people because they don’t want to eat wheat free - because frankly wheat free is fucking disgusting unless you have no choice because you have a medical condition.

I suppose we should be grateful to have any free from food at all. Because lately it’s not trendy any more, vegan is the new thing. So the aisles of free from food are being gradually replaced by vegan. Which is not the same thing at all, and leaves people with medical conditions with nothing to eat!

YES TO ALL THIS

I'm gluten intolerant but my food aisle is slowly vanishing while the unsuitable (for me) vegan section is expanding why put soya in everything suddenly? I can't eat it 😕 oats galore! Great except I react to oats too I loathe the words "new improved recipe"

Thatsplentyjack · 09/11/2021 21:25

I do think they are cutting back on ingredients. Probably salt. Their steak bakes aren't as good as they used to be, but I can not wait for the festive bake this year. Ate my weight in the last year wile pregnant. Them and Costa festive toasties (or whatever they called it). Put on a terrible amount of weight though. Lost it now but better be careful 🤣

Notashandyta · 09/11/2021 21:26

Steak bake, glazed ring donut and tea!

That is all Grin
