Coco cola flat!

waternfire · 08/11/2021 22:41

I know this is the biggest issue in the world but am so fed up with coke being flat! Like literally a brand new bottle! Just opened a fully sealed bottle, there is no fizz!
Over a year ago, my dad bought bottles of coke from a cash and carry, they had foreign writing on them, its actual coke brand that's sold in other countries, zero fizz or fizz dying out within seconds. In the last few months ive been noticing the same here, coco cola that is purchased from the big supermarkets here in the UK, when opened the fizz isn't really there, or if it is within seconds it's gone. I remember when coke used to be very fizzy, you could see the bubbles even after a few minutes, what I just poured from a new sealed bottle, there's not a single bubble, it tastes flat too.
I know it's just not this faulty bottle, as it's been happening for a few months, all bought from different stores.
Has the ingredients changed? Am referring the the 1.25 and 2litre bottles. The cans seem to be ok, although it's no where as near, as fizzy as it used to be.

@Hankunamatata

coke caffeine free is foul but discovered pepsi caffeine free is really nice too
Disagree. The caffeine free Coke is great. Any Pepsi is horrible
GroggyLegs · 08/11/2021 23:37

Cold flat coke is the best though?

For my fellow rolla-cola connoisseurs, Aldi Cola zX is the best of all knock offs.

Was just about to post the same. I'm lying in bed with a can of zx beside me and I can hear it fizzing away its been open for over an hour as well.
MissPeregrine · 08/11/2021 23:48

Absolutely first world problem here too, my Fever Tree tonic, when in a bottle, doesn’t keep its fizz for long!

OhGiveUp · 08/11/2021 23:50

Send it to me OP. I prefer fizzy drinks when they've gone flat, particularly coca cola and Fanta.
I purposely open a few cans and then leave them in the fridge a couple of days to go flat before drinking 😋

wobblywinelover · 09/11/2021 00:44

we drink diet coke here and have a passion for the sublime lime version of it. But i've bought cans only for this reason, it's the only way to get a fizzy version of it. The bottles are a waste of time unless they're going to be used instantly say at a party or something.

ThinWomansBrain · 09/11/2021 00:49

I drink coke a few times a week and hadn't noticed - although probably about week 4 using the same multi pack.

@IncompleteSenten

You can tell the difference?

Pepsi and coke taste exactly the same to me.

Heathen! And anyone who thinks Pepsi max or Coke Zero taste the same as the real thing has had a tastebud bypass. Real Coke all the way here too, and yes, prefer it in cans for that reason. Even if a big bottle is fizzy when you open it, it goes flat too quickly. Rather buy a 6 pack of cans
GeorgiaGirl52 · 09/11/2021 01:02

Coca-cola was invented here in Georgia. We have the Coca-Cola Museum in Atlanta. There are three possible reasons it could be flat:

  1. Check the expiration date. Especially when buying foreign brands from Poundland/Dollar Store etc.
  2. It has been stored in a hot environment. Unheated storage, a ship's hold, etc.
  3. The shortage of CO2 has caused some bottlers to skimp on that ingredient.
DappyApple speaks the truth: Pepsi IS foul!
JunieSpoony · 09/11/2021 03:04

I’m in Canada and am addicted to Coca Cola (the real stuff only). I have switched to cans because the bottles are always wrong nowadays, too flat or weird tasting. Cans are perfect. Pepsi is vile.

Catflapkitkat · 09/11/2021 03:18

Agree with first poster. Pepsi Max in TINS is your future OP

Tilltheend99 · 09/11/2021 04:17

My DH was telling me the other day about how people in 80s/90s were briefly able to use stoppers on fizzy bottles to stop them going flat but the industry cottoned on and changed the way the tops work so that it’s impossible to tightly reseal the bottles.

Ubiquery · 09/11/2021 04:35

I thought that this was going to be a property thread.

thecrowshaveeyesbebe · 09/11/2021 05:57

Totally agree! Since Coke Zero changed its recipe it is SO flat. I’ve switch to Pepsi max and it is 100x better. I was a Coke Zero addict but never have it now, totally ruined.

JuneOsborne · 09/11/2021 06:03

Do soda stream do proper coke syrup now? Because we had one for water and you could mildly carbonate it, carbonate it or extra carbonate it. Maybe that's the answer.

Latenightreader · 09/11/2021 06:10

@hibye123

Since sugar tax barely anything taste the same anymore😭 Sprite used to be my fav fizzy drink. Sooo fizzy and so enjoyable and now I drink it and think 'wtf is this,' absolutely horrible stuff. Maybe the same has happened with Coke too
Coca Cola was about the only fizzy drink unaffected by the sugar tax so I mainly buy that these days - Fanta etc just don’t taste right any more. I haven’t had a can or bottle for a couple of weeks and now I’m going to ensue I buy a can next time...

I can, Pepsi is grim
mrsbyers · 09/11/2021 06:58

I’ve just opened a bottle of Pepsi max and it’s flat too

hellcatspangle · 09/11/2021 07:24

I've noticed that too, I bought a bottle the other day and held on to it without the lid on, within half hour the fizz had disappeared.

Memyselfandfood · 09/11/2021 07:28

Nooo......!!

I can't stand Pepsi Envy

IncompleteSenten · 09/11/2021 07:31

I can't taste it.

My son once poured them into glasses for me to try and I could not taste any difference, let alone be able to tell him which was which.

Maybe I've killed off my taste buds with years of abuse 😁

IncompleteSenten · 09/11/2021 07:32

He did it because we had this exact conversation btw. And he couldn't believe I can't tell

girlmom21 · 09/11/2021 07:32

@JojoLapin

You are unreasonable to drink Coca Cola. Pepsi Max is nicely carbonated and much better!
Reported.
IARTNS · 09/11/2021 07:36

Buy a soda stream and refizz it Grin
